It has a large entryway is not welcoming. There is only one wall to work with. The rest of the area is doorways and a hallway and powder room. I was thinking of doing something like what is already here because you need something in the middle of the floor, but the rug and table there now definitely is NOT working , nor is the too small of a statue on the table. The hanging light seems way too small for the space you need something that is larger and makes a statement. I was thinking a massive floor shelf on the wall space with photo frames and a few nice pieces as I never seem to have a spot for pictures, also a thought is a massive plant but we are only there half the year so that may not work? Any ideas are greatly appreciated! I want a warmer more welcoming space upon entry to the unit. This whole area seems like dead wasted space to me right now! Than you! A: This space just needs some more color and interest. Warm wood colors, a larger piece of art work perhaps on the large wall. I can't say for sure if I would put a large open bookcase on that wall because I wouldn't want to make it too busy. We can't do anything more than buy updated furniture but we are struggling to figure out the best configuration for our room. We use this room primarily for watching TV and when it's cooler we run the fireplace..mostly for ambiance since we live in So. Cal. We have a huge window on one side and a wall on the other. Normally we might consider putting the TV above the Fireplace but since it has a huge mirror we can't do that. Do you have any ideas on how to use this room more effectively? dimensions are: walls on both side of entry are 45in. the wall next to the window (left) 62in, window 104.5, wall to right of window 63.4. Wall with fireplace is 183 in, the wall on the kitchen side is 27.6 in, opening to kitchen 60.56in, long wall to the right of the opening is 141 in. A: Definitely position the back of a sofa or sectional towards the main opening when you walk through the front door. I know it seems strange to walk into the back of the sofa, but if you put a sofa table behind the sofa it will look really nice and be functional. I hope that there is room for these things, I can't really tell in the photos. Then you can put 2 swivel chairs flanking the fireplace so that you can use the fireplace and TV all at once. Take. a look at these 2 examples below. The last photo is an example of a sofa table. Good luck! **Q: LR rug choice for Modern Farmhouse** *(in Design Dilemma)* Switching to Modern Farmhouse in the next house. Would this 7x9 rug fit with the style? Would a dark gray sofa be best? The walls will be white and there will be a lot of windows. OR would it be best in a bedroom? THANKS! A: Very pretty! I personally like it better for a bedroom! A 7' x 9' rug seems a bit small for a living room too, unless it's a small living room. Make sure all fo the furniture is at least partly on the rug or entirely on the rug. Postage stamp rug size is one of the biggest design mistakes I see in homes. Good luck! **Q: Need help deciding on kitchen cabinet color/design** *(in Home Decorating)* My wife and I are looking to remodel and we'd love some advice on which cabinet color design to go with. Would really appreciate any advice/tips/opinions you all can provide! I think the consistency of having the same color on the bottom cabinets looks nicer. It's going to look great! **Q: kitchen remodel** *(in Design Dilemma)* Can’t figure out what to do with this wall of kitchen cabinets. Remodel will install dark hardwood in place of carpet. Cabinet uppers will be gone with wood floating shelves to the left. Cabinets will be painted white with quartz thick edge on top. New base boards. Will this look like a wall of white ugliness in the sunk-in living room? A: Terrific idea painting them white, this will help them blend a lot more! I like the idea of adding paneling to them. It's going to look great! **Q: Blending fixture finishes in bathroom.** *(in Design Dilemma)* Have a new European shower glass enclosure with chrome hinges and handle; shower head and bathroom faucets chrome. Want to use black faucets on off white solid surface countertop. vanity is maple. Planning to use black/chrome bar type light fixture over large full size mirror. How can I ties chrome and black together? A: I don't think you necessarily have to tie them together. It sounds like you have an even amount of both so having one or the other wont look out of place. Those two finishes work well together! You could find a black and chrome decorative knob or towel ring. Something that combines both finishes.
