Made a down payment and was given an install date. That date came and went and all we have are excuses and delays. After being promised an install multiple times with no shows and no shade, we filed a complaint with the BBB and Indiana AG. They take your money and don’t complete the job. We ordered with the wind sensor which almost worked too well. The company did not hesitate to take care of any needs or questions we had. It is now almost November and we still have not received our screen. They never communicate about the delays unless I call and then they give me a different reason every time for the delay, promise it will be installed in the next few weeks, and then delay again. Yes it did take longer than the estimated completion date, although that is understandable during Covid 2020. What is most import is the job is completed, and we are enjoying being outdoors on our patio. Before our retractable blinds, we rarely sat outside after 2 p.m. because our patio at this time always had the hot afternoon and evening sun bearing down until the sun went down for the evening, Now we simply retract our blinds to block the sun and enjoy every moment being outside on our patio in the comfort of shade. Even on windy and rainy days we can retract our blinds and sit outside enjoying our evening. Tonya when I called their office, always answered my calls or called me back as promised. Mark, who installed the blinds was an expert, and also very personable. The blinds enhanced the outside look or our home patio, although it is the enjoyment we love the most of sitting comfortably now outside most evenings. **★ — ANN NIX, April 2020** > ZERO STARS\>\>\> Kevin Drake took my $5061 in August 2019. April 2020 and we do not have any shades. Only excuse after excuse from Kevin Drake. Do not ever use this company. He will take your money and you will never see it again. **Comment from Shade By Design:** > Our company and many others were affected by the extreme weather conditions at the beginning of last year. We worked very hard to try increase the size of our installation team to try and catch up on the lost months for installation. We were never able to get that done. At that time the unemployment was at a record low and the pool of qualified and available people didn't even exist. So yes, everyone that ordered a product from us last year suffered in delayed communication and installation. I'm sorry that you felt they were unjustified excuses for delay. We build a quality "custom" product that is in high demand. I hope that you can trust that we will install your product as you ordered it and take care of you as customer as long as you own our product. Our business is 90% referral based and we haven't been in business for 30 years because we don't take care of our customers. We obviously are in a very trying time right now. We have a limited staff due to the Covid 19 crisis. We have suppliers that our completely closed due to this crisis. Some materials are not available and won't be until this is over. I know you have waited a long time as many of our customers have and that we appreciate. We have given discounts to all our customers that have experienced these large delays. It is now December 2018 and still. No shade. Have made countless calls to them, when they answered there was always an excuse. My calls were never returned when I left messages. My options are slim right now, Requested my money back in November have heard nothing from them. Expectations had been set that it would be a 4-6 week lead time for the install. 20 weeks went by without any proactive communication from the company. The team came out to install our shade on 8/9/2017. The three gentlemen worked hard all day to get it installed but unfortunately, it was the wrong color. When we notified the company of this error, they said they would order new fabric ASAP and make it right. The customer service we received from this delightful family owned business was exceptional from the day of purchase to install. Kevin, the owner and salesman, was very helpful with picking the best color option and size to fit our backyard patio and the installation team cleaned up everything afterwards. We decided to get the motorized retractable that comes with an easily mounted remote (great for keeping out of reach of our little ones hands).. The motorization is great for when we are indoors and want to shade the area where our large sliding door is. We also decided to get the wind control; which has been great for our home since it tends to get a good gust of wind on occasion back there. We've already spent much more time sitting out on our patio than what we did before the awning.
