Most recently, he amazed us by transforming our plain oak fireplace mantle into a beautiful dark mahogany-look complete with natural looking wood grain using his faux painting techniques. Because our home was about fifty years old and the floors had been carpeted multiple times by previous owners, restoring these floors was no easy task. The original flooring was a light oak, but after sanding, he recommended that we select a darker stain to hide imperfections. There was the issue that the wooden trim was also light. Mr. Schaut mixed a matching stain varnish that he applied to the trim. Our floors and the trim are beautiful and easy to maintain. He was meticulous in his work and his effort to keep the house free of dust created by the sanding. He took them from an ugly dark paper/wood paneling to a gorgeous wallpaper like finish complete with veins of 24k gold paint to make it pop. He also added a few little touches like gold trim on my pillar bottoms and gold wood trim around the room dividers. It made a huge difference in the look of the room. I have seen other faux finishes he has completed for others and was very impressed with them as well.
