**★★★★★ — Melanie Morris, July 2018**

> Craig has been working with my husband and I to design our house addition. Since the beginning Craig has made multiple site visits to ensure all aspects of our addition were discussed and that decisions were made collectively. Craig's passion for architecture, design as well as modernism definitely shines through and his work ethic is something to be admired.
> Craig took the time to develop a professional working relationship with us which definitely helped to ensure our addition felt like home.
> Craig took the time to patiently answer any questions we had during the design phase. (trust me I had a lot of questions). Craig also ensured his design was within our budget- something we definitely appreciated.
> We have renovated our home numerous times and we have never felt more comfortable with a renovation as we do with Craig on our team.
> We had some tight deadlines throughout our planning process and Craig was able to meet every one.
> Craig's skillset is broad in that he can handle any size renovation from start to finish. We would recommend Craig to anyone.

**★★★★★ — Alex Sharpe, June 2018**

> Craig and I have worked together on many projects. I first hired him in 2012 to work with me on the design of my family’s laneway house in Toronto’s Leslieville neighbourhood. We rebuilt an existing, illegally converted garage apartment, including adding a second floor addition to the structure. Throughout this process, Craig was very professional and patient and his ideas and insight proved valuable in navigating the design and approval process, which was challenging to say the least.

> Since completing my first house with Craig, I have hired him for my family’s next house. He has been great to work with, and I strongly recommend reaching out to him if you are planning on undertaking a substantial renovation or building a custom home.

- [Leslieville Laneway House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/leslieville-laneway-house-pj-vj~4209987)
  - Location: Toronto, ON
  - Photos: 7
  - Description: A garage, hazardously occupied as an apartment, was legalized and converted into a sustainable, contemporary laneway house for a young couple in Toronto’s Leslieville neighbourhood. LANEWAY HOUSE INFILL DEVELOPMENT Laneway houses are the future of Toronto. A rapidly growing population is creating pressure on available urban space, forcing Torontonians to find creative ways to build, afford, and own homes in low-rise neighbourhoods. The clients for this project were a young couple looking to brea…
- [Race Residence I](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/race-residence-i-pj-vj~3874302)
  - Location: Toronto, ON
  - Photos: 13
  - Description: Interior renovation of a Toronto century home and the addition of a secondary unit.
- [Riverdale Addition](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/riverdale-addition-pj-vj~6299600)
  - Location: Toronto, ON
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: A century-home in Toronto’s east end needed energy upgrades, a fresh look, a little more space, and a lot more useability. Its sloping site provides views of the downtown skyline from the upper level, and exposes the basement to create durable mudroom entries for a family of cycling enthusiasts. A heritage facade was retained to compliment the streetscape, but the rear addition is an angled amalgamation of form and function. This house is business up front, and party in the rear.
- [Blue Mountains Chalet](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/blue-mountains-chalet-pj-vj~6299701)
  - Location: The Blue Mountains, ON
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: Currently in design development, the Blue Mountain Chalet seeks to create a vacation home for a family who loves to ski and socialize. The house is organized into two “monopoly houses” – one for quiet sleeping quarters, and the other for social and living spaces. A 3-storey atrium connects both sides and accommodates vertical circulation via a feature stair that meanders in and out of the space. The lot is surrounded by forest and perched high on the Niagara Escarpment. The design creates a conn…
- [East End Laneway House](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/east-end-laneway-house-pj-vj~6299685)
  - Location: Toronto, ON
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: This new laneway suite is a modern renewal of an existing building. The box design creates a light-filled second storey with a unique twisted roof form. The goal on the interior is to create a sleek and contemporary space with maximum privacy. This interior retrofit’s primary goal is to reduce energy consumption through passive-house-inspired design. Maintaining the existing brick shell and adding new insulation to the interior will cut the home’s heating and cooling energy demand considerably.…
- [Leaside Addition](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/leaside-addition-pj-vj~6299677)
  - Location: Toronto, ON
  - Photos: 9
  - Description: The intention of the compact two storey addition is to add livable space to this century house through respectful and practical design decisions that suit a growing family. The form follows the boxy style of the existing neighborhood while the unique cladding pattern creates drama and delight. With no neighbors backing on to the north side of the property, floor to ceiling glazing on the ground floor draws the eye towards the rear garden and neighboring trees while creating a form that appears l…
- [Withrow Park Addition](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/withrow-park-addition-pj-vj~6299649)
  - Location: Toronto, ON
  - Photos: 10
  - Description: The forms of the additions are derived from contextual inputs. Starting with simple boxes, we pushed, pulled, and rotated the shapes to maximize sun exposure and views for neighboring houses, oriented windows away from neighbors, and create building masses that tilt away from the sidewalk to respect the pedestrian realm. This play on a simple box form creates drama and delight but serves a rational purpose of being respectful and efficient. The design seeks to balance contextual sensitivity with…
- [Upper Beaches Heritage Infill](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/upper-beaches-heritage-infill-pj-vj~6299619)
  - Location: Toronto, ON
  - Photos: 8
  - Description: This project is the third infill development project for Craig Race and his family. The original century home had a very wide footprint, allowing for the creation of two side-by-side units. By inserting a new party wall and building a third floor addition, the new house is configured like a semi-detached home. Each unit is approximately 2,200sq.ft. with 5 bedrooms and a dedicated rear yard with laneway parking.
