I went into this project expecting a typical general contractor setup where a GC manages the project and brings in licensed specialists for plumbing, electrical, framing, etc. > > That’s not how this company operated in my case. > > Remodeling Heroes functioned more as a sales and coordination layer. The actual work was effectively handed off to another GC and a small crew that handled every trade themselves: plumbing, electrical, framing, drywall, tile, finish carpentry, everything. > > These were not dedicated specialists brought in for their respective scopes. It was a generalist crew performing all aspects of the project, often across multiple jobs at once. That structure had real consequences. > > The quality issues were constant. I dealt with repeated mistakes, code issues, and rework across multiple phases of the project. Some examples: > > \* Two load-bearing supports were removed without properly shoring the structure first, despite shoring being explicitly included in the agreed scope. > \* A pocket door system was installed incorrectly and not according to manufacturer instructions, requiring walls to later be reopened. > \* The shower valve was installed incorrectly behind finished tile. > \* Multiple electrical/code issues had to be identified and corrected by me before inspections. > \* Drywall, framing, and finish quality were sloppy, including out-of-plumb surfaces and screw pops appearing shortly after completion. > > In practice, I had to actively supervise work in real time to prevent further mistakes. I frequently found myself researching code requirements, reviewing installation manuals, and explaining proper installation methods to the crew. That should not be the homeowner’s responsibility on a permitted project of this scale. > > Communication was also a challenge because there were multiple layers between me and the people actually performing the work. Details discussed during planning often did not make it to the field, and installation instructions were repeatedly ignored or missed. > > There was also a serious trust issue during the project. One of the workers stole approximately $2,000 worth of my tools over time, which I documented with security cameras. Later, I saw the same individual working on another nearby Remodeling Heroes project. I can only speak to what I directly observed, but it was deeply concerning. > > By the end of the project, I felt less like a customer hiring experienced professionals and more like an unpaid site supervisor trying to keep the project on track. > > This setup may not be obvious when you first engage with the company, but it had a major impact on the quality, accountability, and overall experience of the project. **★★★★★ — Phebe Hoff, Sept. 2025** > Arie Gurman (project manager) and his team at Remodeling Heroes did a major project at my house including addition of a brand new bathroom in the master bedroom, addition of walk-in closet. The work was complex and we had to make several adjustments along the way But throughout this process Arie was highly communicative, flexible and took us through the process step by step. Arie and his team did an outstanding job, very high quality work (see few attached pics) and we are quite happy with the project. The solution they proposed and executed only partially solved the problem. At times we also had some rather questionable interactions with their staff. Expect to catch some attitude if you annoy them with too many questions. > > For example, at one point during our project negotiations, my questions on their contract must have been annoying when my service rep replied "...for us its a very very small project the office will even skip and not take..." I guess he thinks they are doing me a favor by charging me $17000 to put in a drain. > > The issue we need to solve is leak in the basement where we could not find the source. They inspected the issue and recommended a French drain as the solution. We had the work done at the cost of $17,000. A majority of the leaking is resolved, water is no longer pouring in as it was during the worst of our 2023 winter storms but some water is still making it's way into our basement. > > After reporting the water issue to my service rep, he leaves me a voice message stating he reviewed our contract and all the work they did was at my request. They now want to dig up the drain they just installed and look for cracks in the foundation. Of course, our warranty does not apply here because the drain is doing it's job and there must be undiagnosed cracks in the foundation. **★ — Kevin Malek, Aug. 2025** > Very frustrating job. They replaced window but ignored major issues in the rot in the frame even though we asked them to open up interior trim. They also didn’t calk the bottom of the window they replaced. He went above the normal things that a normal contractor will go and we felt that he treat this project like it was his own. His carpenter guy took the outdated cabinets and turned them into brand new (which saved us a lot of money), rebuild some new cabinets in order to accommodate a built-in refrigerator and a new microwave drawer. They showed up on time, every day and worked towards the weekly goals of the kitchen remodeling. He was always present on our job, showing up regularly to check in on the progress, always reachable when I had questions and made sure to address any concerns that came up throughout the process. His team is also wonderful, always showing up on time and very respectful while they worked in our home. I know from experience how nerve-racking it can be to hire a new contractor and Eran really made it easy to build the trust that you need in that relationship.
