> I decided to give Erik a call after my neighbor recommended him to us, and I was very impressed by the major remodel that Erik designed for my neighbor's house. We ended up hiring Erik to do the plans for our first-floor addition. - about 400 square feet, including an expanded living room, a new bedroom, and a new bathroom. First and foremost, we absolutely love the Craftsman design that Erik developed. We are glad he talked us out of our original idea of simply adding a box to the front of the house. Instead, his design blends in with the rest of the house so well that you might not be able to tell that it was an addition. We also had Erik perform construction supervision throughout the project. It was helpful to have him visit once a week to make sure everything was in accordance with the plans. For example, at one point, he caught that the contractors had started a design for the columns that wasn't what the plans called for, so he asked them to change it. He also reviewed the window options my contractor sent to make sure that we were picking something consistent with the Craftsman design, which I would not have known how to do myself. He also provided helpful advice when I was making decisions, such as choosing bathroom fixtures, tiles, stone veneer, and paint colors. After the addition was done, we ended up also retaining Erik to do some plans for landscaping in the front yard. We are thrilled with how our house looks now!

> Our 1920’s Highland Park Craftsman was transformed from a single-family home on the books to a permitted triplex including an integrated ADU—all approved during peak COVID—thanks to Mark at Pacifico Architects. He navigated the notoriously strict HPOZ and newly adopted LADBS code, secured seismic retrofits and habitable sign-offs, in-person inspections, and leveraged new state ADU laws to add rentable space without sacrificing the property’s historic character. Additional challenges he skillfully overcame included requirements related to the high fire zone and hillside ordinance. I credit his clear communication and creative problem-solving to keep us on schedule and within budget. We now enjoy three beautiful, code-compliant units with steady rental income. We’d hire Pacifico Architects again in a heartbeat.
