I am a Minneapolis-based Interior Designer who has a strong passion for interior design, architecture and art. I love the world of design and helping people transform their homes into a beautiful reflection of who they are. My design philosophy is to create homes that clients will truly love with an emphasis on clean, beautiful lines that enhance a warm and inviting living arrangement. My interior design business specializes in residential design and I have designed homes in the Los Angeles/Palm Springs area and throughout the Twin Cities.

I grew up in St. Clair Shores, Michigan and graduated from the University of Minnesota. I have lived in London, San Francisco, Sonoma, Los Angeles and Palm Springs. Shortly after college, I moved to California to pursue my dream of working in the entertainment industry and quickly found work on my first film, Faith. My last two projects in LA were on the films, The Metrosexual and Adopt A Sailor both of which I was the Production Designer. I brought my strong sense of design to other entertainment projects including TV commercials and music projects. I also have a strong love of Mid Century Design/Architecture and I travel to Palm Springs often to attend the annual Modernism Show and to enjoy the beautiful Coachella Valley.

My passion for design, art and architecture along with my experience in film allows me to offer a unique perspective in the world of design. I look forward to having the opportunity to bring my vision to make your home a warm, beautiful and inviting space for you to enjoy with your family and friends.

Best,
David Borgula

> We hired David to help us with several rooms in our new home. He was fun to work with, found things in our style (not pushing his), and has an exceptional eye for color and overall design. He stayed within our budget and found some unbelievable deals too! He helped make our new house feel like our home. I highly recommend him!

> David LISTENED to me. He helped turn my hopeless kitchen and dated dining room into beautiful rooms that I love and that constantly draw compliments. I wanted warm, autumnal colors in a mid-century house, but simply couldn't put things together. He listened to my ideas and guided me with professionalism and a great sense of humor, kept me on budget and was a dream to work with. It was clear that his years of experience, his ability to easily work with contractors and his eye for color and design were fabulous. I've confidently recommended him to all my friends.

**★★★★★ — Kim Waltrip, Sept. 2013**

> David designed our production of the movie "Adopt a Sailor" starring Bebe Neuwirth, Peter Coyote and Ethan Peck. He is a consummate professional with insanely creative design concepts. He's a dream to work with and I can't wait to work with him again.

> David did a FABULOUS job designing my Malibu condo!! He listened to my preferences and delivered the contemporary home of my dreams in the colors of the ocean. Rather than imposing his tastes, he truly respected my desires and used the full force of his talents to create a wonderfully unique home. My sister and son employed David as well. Their homes are more traditional, yet each is outstanding in its' genre thanks to David. He is cost minded as well and keeps to your budget. David is my favorite designer!

  - Description: In this home just a block from Lake of Isles in Minneapolis, the client wanted me to create an easy flow to his home, so the first floor was reconfigured to make the space more open. The staircase was moved and a few walls were removed to create a beautiful, open feel which made the space feel larger and allowed more natural light to flow throughout creating a much more welcoming home. The color palette was blue and gray but I added a punch of orange with the Wassily chairs and pillows on the so…

  - Description: This client was so excited that she was able to purchase this 1965 rambler and transform it into the home of her dreams. We focused on the living room and I educated her on Mid-century design to honor the style of the house with the furniture I picked. The client had a very small budget, but I was able to transform the living room for under $5,000 and she commented that she couldn't believe her house could be this beautiful on such a tight budget. I truly believe you can achieve beautiful design…

  - Description: I loved this project as I started on the first floor designing the living room and dining room. After loving the first floor redesign, the owner wanted to convert 2 bedrooms and bathroom upstairs into a large master suite with a beautiful walk-in closet. Reconfiguring the space for an easy flow from the bedroom to the bathroom and then into the spacious closet with a stunning chandelier makes this a dream master suite with a beautiful, transitional design.

  - Location: Malibu, CA

  - Description: This project was all inspired by the breath-taking view of the Pacific Ocean and I never wanted the design to distract from the gorgeous view. The color pallet was white, gray with hints of blue to compliment the color of the ocean. In the living room, the white, leather sectional had to be custom made because of its large size and the dining room table appears to be floating with acrylic chairs that almost disappear. The custom Pentych (5-piece) artwork was commissioned by the artist Tim LaDuke…

  - Description: This unique project involved a 1957 house that was situated on an island on Kings Road in the Hollywood Hills. The house sat alone on an island of land that the road went around, I suggested to the client as a joke we should build a moat around it to make a real Hollywood house. In the living room, I found this great, vintage sofa that I had recovered, it was the perfect shape and size for the space. I also found 2 Gio Ponti chairs that you can't really see in these pictures. The rug runner I de…

  - Location: Los Angeles, CA

  - Description: I love how this kitchen turned out, the cabinets were custom made from Italy and the appliances were Bosch and Thermador. The flooring was porcelain tiles that looked like polished concrete and the countertop was textured stainless steel.

  - Location: Los Angeles, CA
  - Photos: 3
  - Description: This was an owner-occupied, four-plex in the old Hollywood neighborhood of Hancock Park. I went with a transitional style to honor the the architecture of the building and yet bring in some modern elements in to match the clients personalities. In the bathroom, I kept a simple, modern black and white color motif with traditional bath fixtures. I love the wall of mirrors that I created by finding nine different frame styes that complimented each other and placed mirrors in each of them. And then…

  - Description: I was the Production Designer on the film, Adopt A Sailor which starred Bebe Neuwirth, Peter Coyote and Ethan Peck (Gregory Peck's Grandson), directed by Charles Evered and Produced by Kim Waltrip. I loved working on this film, we had so much fun trying to transform a house in Palm Desert into a New York City apartment on a very tight budget.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Love the couch! Where is it from?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi Dawn, the sofa is from Thomasville and it is called the Highlife and comes in a 2, 3, or 4 seat option with or without tufting on the back cushion. I hope that helps.
Have a great day,
David

**Q: Curb appeal** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I would like to modernize siding color and garage doors. I need help with colors and maybe a change at entry way or front of house?

A: I love the house. I would keep it simple, clean and modern. I would change the color of the house and make a contrasting or darker color on the wall that separates the house from the garage area. I would also definitely change the garage doors to glass and metal (I have attached a picture) and if you want to change the roof, I would do metal (see pictures). It's a great house and with a few improvements it will be a show stopping house.
