> We used Britt Keele of Red Dot Construction out of Pittsboro for a screened in porch addition and roof extension and we were originally thrilled with his work and attentiveness. We recommended him to several neighbors and noticed him working on several other projects throughout our neighborhood after our project. However, since the completion of our deck and roof extension, we found a section of the roof that was left incomplete. We have been trying to contact Britt about this since this current October. While he initially responded to say he would have his roofer come to fix this, we have not been able to connect with him since to get an update on when we might be able to expect this work to be done and no repairs have been made. After many, many text messages, phone calls, and emails all unanswered, we will have to figure out a way to fix this on our own now. So disappointed in this lack of professionalism and ownership.

> Estimate pricing was accurate.  Work was sloppy, though.  He did well with our tile work and some small things, but - at least for us - he failed to think through some of the details.  We had to go behind and clean up (and in a few cases redo) his work.  If you can wield a caulk gun, I recommend doing some of the finishing touches yourself.  He was a super nice guy and met our need for a quick timeframe, but the quality for a lot of the was seriously lacking.

> One of the greatest challenges in the home industry is the accuracy of pricing.  We all want our dream home at the lowest cost possible, but all too often this leads homeowners down a treacherous path since too many dishonest contractors will knowingly low-ball bids to get the job.  As a designer with over 12 years of experience in the Durham-Chapel Hill area, I have seen that scenario play itself out many times.  It is heart-breaking to watch, since many people secure insufficient funding to build, based on the low bid, and are left in a difficult situation when costs run beyond their initial expectations.

> I respect Britt because he is one of the few contractors who will be honest with his clients, and will walk them through his bids to explain every aspect of it-- the materials, the labor costs, the construction process itself, his overhead, and what unfortunate surprises might reveal themselves when walls are open. Building and renovating is a long process with it's own trials and tribulations along the way, and knowing you can trust you contractor will ensure that you get the home you've been working so hard to achieve.  Occasionally he has relayed stories of homeowners coming back to him with stories of shoddy work and ever rising costs, and how they regretted their decision to go with a different contractor.  It is always difficult to hear, but it does validate the accuracy of his estimates.

**Q: Great colors** *(in Photo Questions)*

Please share the name/manufacturer of the paint colors- particularly the bathroom blues, thank you

A: Something you could try is to print a good quality of the picture and then try and color match it.  Have tried this once before and it worked reasonably well.

**Q: My husband recently bought this house, it was not my 1st choice.  I need help, it has NO street appeal** *(in Design Dilemma)*

The original owners of this house built it with the idea of an old school house in mind.  It has some good qualities like being all brick.  I struggle with the curb appeal.  Would window boxes and shutters be enough to help this?

A: Some great ideas here.  I really like the idea of an expanded porch across the front to not only add a visual but usable space that would add a lot of value. the current porch could be expanded to make more of a feature instead of the square house being the only feature.   Planter beds in the front to break up the lawn and have more areas of interest.  From a contractor I see lots of potential, it will be a matter of budget and how long you plan to stay in the home.

**Q: where can i buy this tub?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Don't know about this one in particular, but we have had a lot of success finding unique and affordable tubs for our clients on signaturehardware.com, efaucets.com, and faucets.com.

**Q: What kind of mechanism do you need to create these doors?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: They are cabinet pocket door sliders.  Can order them online from a cabinet supplier or get them through Lowe's or Home Depot. Before ordering i would follow their measuring guide for depth of cabinet and door configuration.

**Q: Sitting area in the shower** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is a good height? Depth? For the sitting area in the shower?

A: Unfortunately I have not found any more affordable then the fiberglass and the solid Corian style and the problem with those is they can yellow, peel, and degrade over short periods of time.  I was actually with someone recently who had a fiberglass one installed in 2007 that has cracked and is now leaking. The most secure we have done is the tile ready Pre-fab solid pans or the Schluter/Kerdi system.  My questions is, in saying you don't have the funds for the tile, is your shower leaking and in need of repair or is it a situation where you could continue with what you have and save the additional money to tile the pan during your remodel? If you can I have found doing it the more expensive way is better over the long run and a better investment of your money in your home and might be worth the wait to get started.

Can anyone tell me what this 'tap over the stove' is called?  (or did I just nail it?)

A: A pot filler.
