### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Mary Johnson, Dec. 2017**

> For the past year, I have been working with Joan Suzio updating my home. I selected Joan based on her past home design for an immediate family.
>
> First, I wanted to update our family room. The family room has an unusual shape with large windows and is used everyday by two children, two adults and a dog. I was struggling with space and knew I needed a designer's expertise. I asked Joan to help me. Based on the results of this one room, I asked if she would help me update a guest bedroom and then, 2 more bedrooms. She brought continuity to the three bedrooms even though the three bedrooms were so different (a girl's bedroom, a boy's bedroom and a guest bedroom).
>
> Her suggestions were exactly why I hired her. She had different ideas for furniture placement to make the rooms more functional and feel larger. I have received so many complements on the rooms. The updated guest bedroom has been a huge success. Our guest say they love the room since it is so stylish, comfortable, and they didn't want to wake up (the new black-out window treatment truly work).
>
> I love working with Joan. She doesn't pressure you to go in a direction that is not your style or vision. Also, she is keeps you within your budget. I didn't not feel pressured as if she was trying to "up-sell" me. I truly felt comfortable with discussing the room(s) challenges and finding solutions together. She presented different options and ultimately the decision was mine.
>
> Her design skill, vision and fun personality made working with her a pleasure. In addition, she is very flexible with meeting times.

**★★★★★ — Steve Gibble, Dec. 2017**

> I wanted to redecorate my 2 bedroom condominium and I had the pleasure of working with Joan Suzio and her husband Bob Rettig. Joan integrated my ideas with hers and designed a beautiful "new" condominium for me. Joan added expertly to my ideas and designed a fantastic "new" living space for me. Joan did a outstanding job with colors and fabrics to give me a gorgeous "new" home. Joan's husband Bob worked as the general contractor and was here everyday supervising the work being done. Bob was on the job daily to be sure that everything went smoothly with the redecorating. Thanks to Joan and Bob, I have a beautiful "new" condominium.

**Comment from Decorating Den Interiors:**

> Awww- you are SO welcome, Steve! It's been such a pleasure working with you!

**★★★★★ — Eileen Dwyer, Nov. 2017**

> when my husband & I decided to redecorate our master bedroom we decided it would be helpful to get some professional advice. I was somewhat skeptical thinking that hiring a decorator would be expensive & that I might be driven to design options that didn't match my tastes. Was I wrong. From the beginning Joan was very open & very approachable. She focused on understanding my tastes & preferences. Then she skillfully walked me through a variety of options that ultimately resulted in a fantastic master BR. We love it! I highly recommend Joan for whatever project you might have. Thanks Joan!

**Comment from Decorating Den Interiors:**

> OMG, Eileen! what a lovely review! thanks for being such a fun and interesting client to work with! This is definitely one of my all-time favorite rooms!

**★★★★★ — Patricia Walcott, May 2016**

> I wanted to update my cousin's living room as a surprise for her so I sent an email to Decorating Den in the Chicago area. Joan contacted me immediately and was willing to take the job even though she lived some distance away. Joan sent me pictures of fabrics and then samples and we picked the scheme. In 3 months she installed everything. When my cousin got home she was absolutely overwhelmed - she said it didn't even look like her house! Joan was easy to work with and did a great job considering our FL to IL relationship. I highly recommend her.

**Comment from Decorating Den Interiors:**

> thanks, Pat! What a fun project it was! I am so grateful for the wonderful opportunity to work with you on this surprise for Kay. I'm glad we got an opportunity to meet in person when Bob and I were visiting Naples!

**★★★★★ — Kevin Mathews, March 2016**

> Joan did a wonderful job helping us to pick paint colors, window coverings, tie backs, and carpet. She was very patient and flexible with scheduling to suit a single dad! I would highly recommend her and not hesitate to go to her for my next project.

**★★★★★ — Nancy Hildebrandt, March 2016**

> Joan and Bob were a dream to work with! Joan is the designer was able to translate my concept from my imagination into the plans, and the project manager Bob worked directly with all of the contractors and coordinated their work, which made the process go so much more smoothly. They were both on top of the project status at all times, and very responsive to my questions. I'm so pleased with the final product - simply fabulous!

**Comment from Decorating Den Interiors:**

> Nancy,
> Thanks so much for the kind words! You were a dream to work with, that's for sure! And congratulations on being the first client to include project photos -so nice of you to take the time to do that. Call us if you need any other help!

> Joan has helped me decorate 3 houses, We chose paint, carpeting, and window
> treatments. Not only is she fun to work with, but she is respectful of our tastes and budget.
> She has an eye for detail and color. I highly recommend her.

**Comment from Decorating Den Interiors:**

> hi, Clare,
> It's unbelievable that we have done 3 houses together - and they have all been fun! I appreciate being called in each time, because you are so enjoyable and fun to work with. We always have a few good laughs as well while we are working hard. Thank you again for your kind words!

> A decade ago Joan from Decorator's Den helped us select (and have installed) some sheer curtains and rods for our home. Last year we took them down to paint and when we went to put everything back up - we found we were missing a couple pieces used to connect the curtain rod to the bracket. Because the rod was quite expensive replacing it was a last resort. Eventually we decided to call Joan to ask for her advice/help. Joan responded by coming out to our home, getting up on her ladder and taking a few pics of the assembly. She then went back to the office and searched thru her supply closet, found the parts we were missing - and delivered them to us within a week! Joan did all of this professionally and cheerfully at NO CHARGE to us. This is service and commitment to customer support you just don't see very often - if ever.

**Comment from Decorating Den Interiors:**

> Hi, Michael,
> Thank you for your complimentary review. It was such a little thing I did for you guys, and it helped me clean out some of the parts in the overflowing supply closet! Glad to help out, and I hope you got the rod re-installed okay. If not you know where to find me!

> Joan Suzio assisted in creating window treatments for our home that greatly enhance our pleasure and comfort. She is highly knowledgeable and her experience is easily recognized as well as reassuring. Joan was always sensitive to working within our budget while still providing numerous options and explaining the advantages of each of those options. She did all of this in a timely manner and when something went amiss she was quick and gracious to make it right.

**Comment from Decorating Den Interiors:**

> Thank you Donna! I appreciate your kind comments, and it's so important to know that you are happy with your window treatments! I look forward to future projects!

**★★★★★ — ckash79, Dec. 2015**

> I have worked with Joan for over 20 years on various projects. I always come back to her for her great ideas, professionalism and unmatched quality. Most recently she replaced sheers in a living room and they look fabulous.

**Comment from Decorating Den Interiors:**

> Thank you so much Carole, for the kind words! You've always been so fun to work with!

**★★★★★ — ingebots, Dec. 2015**

> This is the second time I have worked with Joan Suzio. She helped us from the ground up with our last house many years ago and stayed with the project until completed. We loved everything she helped us do. This time around, I downsized and started from scratch, once again. The project originally was slated much smaller, but quickly grew due to the fact that I didn't "want to live through a mess more than once". What I love about Joan is she listens carefully and gently guides you with your own taste so it reflects you. She is respectful, very knowledgeable and definitely goes the extra mile. Once again, we had a very good rhythm choosing everything and working together. She was a huge help in choosing the paint colors and designing my beautiful couch. The couch pillows are stunning with glass bead trim. The window treatments and custom bedding are gorgeous. There are so many decisions to make and she was there every step of the way. I had a vision in my head of what I wanted my new place to look like and she made it a reality. She followed up in a timely manner on the progress of everything being made and coordinated all deliveries. We chose beautiful handmade rugs together from Nepal. She was right on the mark with sizes and colors. I have and would definitely recommend Joan to help with any decorating projects. She is very easy to work with and got along well with the painter and other tradesmen working at my house.

**Comment from Decorating Den Interiors:**

> Courtney,
> Thank you for your very generous review! You are always so much fun to work with, and I am sad that our project is winding down now, but I know we will keep in touch. I appreciate your loyalty and friendship!

**★★★★★ — scett, Dec. 2015**

> I have worked with Joan over the past 20 years. She has recommended great colors, materials, and designs. I have purchased window coverings for my entire house and rugs from her. They have all been exactly what I wanted and have held up beautifully. I had a problem with a shade and Joan arranged to have someone come to the house and fix it. I believe she truly stands behind all her products and installations.
> I also purchased window treatments for my son's condo and we were very pleased with the installation and product quality.
> I would definitely recommend her and will use her for any design project.

**Comment from Decorating Den Interiors:**

> Sally, Thank you very much for your kind words! It is always a pleasure to come back and help with a new project because you're so easy to work with. It's also amazing to see the kids all grown up with their own houses!

  - Description: My client had finally moved from her large home to a much smaller condo and the adjustment was a challenge! She drastically slashed her belongings and still had boxes of artworks to hang, and my job was to help her to LOVE this new home. We started with a neutral palette for all the walls to visually enlarge the spaces and provide a seamless flow throughout. She desired a luxurious, upscale look within a reasonable budget range, which we achieved through months of careful research and editing do…
- [Master Bath Remodel](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/master-bath-remodel-pj-vj~371228)
  - Location: Vernon Hills, IL
  - Photos: 3
  - Description: This 90s era bathroom was builder-basic and dreary, then a leak in the tiny shower was the last straw needed to spur a gut and remodel. A spacious marble shower with body jets, rainshower and bench and a luxurious soaking tub provide five star hotel amenities. Finally this tall couple had an elegant furniture like vanity suited to their height. Marble wainscotting and border wrap the room in spa-like luxury, while the soft blue walls add serenity to this retreat.

  - Location: Vernon Hills, IL

  - Description: This client wanted to break away from her earth toned furnishings to inject some calming blues into her living and dining rooms. A casual, slightly coastal inspired ambiance was desired, where nothing is too precious to touch, so everyone feels welcome, even the dog. We started with the rugs as our inspiration pieces and then pulled our furniture fabrics from there. Accents of spring green and cream provide contrast for the blues and the rugs bring lighter tones onto the dark wood floors. She is…

  - Location: Vernon Hills, IL
  - Photos: 3
  - Description: Stuck in the 90's, this builders basic kitchen sorely needed more functional storage and an updated counter to replace the green Corian. We initially planned new counters and new cherry island but the homeowner ended up expanding the scope to a complete makeover including all new cream glazed cabinets and custom cherry hutch for added linen and dish storage. The lighting was the first item selected, then we found a transitional print for valances that provided a road map for all the tile, granit…
- [Kids/Guest Bath Remodel](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/kids-guest-bath-remodel-pj-vj~224426)
  - Location: Highland Park, IL
  - Photos: 6
  - Description: The kids had outgrown their Winnie-the-Pooh bathroom theme and no longer used the tub except for showering. We ripped out the dated tub and installed an elegant grown-up glass-door shower with rain and body jets. Two marble topped vanities separated by floor to ceiling linen closet provide private grooming spaces with plenty of storage. One of the most functional changes was a pocket door which gained needed space in the commode room. Marble wainscotting and chair rail envelope both rooms for ea…

  - Location: Wadsworth, IL
  - Photos: 5
  - Description: The clients had a dated, dysfunctional Master Suite stuck in the 80's. Hunter green walls with insets of rose floral wallpaper suffocated the couple as they tried to relax after a long day in corporate life. We painted in soft neutral tones with an accent of blue beneath the chair rail. That tone was carried into the remodelled Master Bath to compliment the elegant Crema Marfil marble floors. Custom bedding in blue faux silk stripe was repeated in the Master Bath valances over the soaker tub. Lu…
- [Elegant Lake County Home Office](https://www.houzz.com/hznb/projects/elegant-lake-county-home-office-pj-vj~914199)
  - Location: Highland Park, IL
  - Photos: 2
  - Description: The clients desired a formal somewhat "Tuscan" decor for their home office which was the first room guests would see upon entering their home. A dramatic 2 story ceiling already created drama and they played that up with a terra cotta faux finish that continued up the staircase onto the second floor hallway. The elegant European styling of the desk and credenza makes an impressive statement which we enhanced with long drapery panels. Upholstered guest chairs in contrasting aqua serve to offset t…

  - Description: Beautiful fabric window treatments can set the mood and provide a starting point for decorating any room. Whether formal panels or casual valances or cornices, fabric at the window finishes off and warms up a space.
