When we had a significant water damage issue in our basement, he showed up immediately to look at the scope. That's pretty amazing for any contractor you work with given how busy they are, but i wasn't even a prior client. Keith, and every member of his team were timely, super efficient, extremely thoughtful in their work and in how they made the construction as unobtrusive as possible, despite it being a stage project with many items that were valuable and difficult to move out of the house. All of this during the pandemic when everything had an extra layer of difficulty added on to it. From a technical perspective, all the work was done with the highest of standards, no short cuts. i have overseen large construction projects in NYC so have some background with work quality, but Keith Gerety is top notch. The project entailed building a 60-foot long, 10-foot tall retaining wall (at its highest point) outside the pillars that support our second-story deck. Erosion had created a steep slope downhill that exposed the concrete base to one of the pillars by over a foot, and would eventually compromise the integrity the deck. Given the size, complexity and importance of the project, Gerety recommended a structural engineer, who drew up the plans to include proper watershed drainage and a smaller "deadman's wall" connected underground with rebar and plates to the Great Wall to provide additional support. The team was professional and methodic in its approach, and provided regular communication about both the project's status and next steps. Thinking of painting my cherrywood cabinets off white and adding oil rubbed bronze hardware. I don't hate the cabinets they juts wouldn't be my first choice. The barn doors can be seen from the kitchen and other furniture is a similar warm light to medium honey color. A: Cream cabinets with black hardware would look great. Black hardware on the cabinets would mix better with the barn doors. **Q: Would you paint your kitchen cabinets yourself? A: Even as someone who is well versed in remodeling & restoration, I'll "call a guy" for that task. It's a beast of a project, and is not for the faint of heart. **Q: Are these tiles dated and ugly** *(in Polls)* Hello, I have grey tiles in the foyer, guest bathroom and master ensuite. They are in mint condition installed brand new just 4 years ago. I am not sure if they look cheap and ugly. A: While they could be a little better, I certainly don't think it's worth the effort to replace them. They look fine! **Q: Closed off kitchens** *(in Polls)* Are people starting to want kitchens to be rooms unto themselves again? For a few years I have read that the time for kitchens being out in the open was waning, but it seems to me erecting walls may be harder than tearing them down. I prefer relatively closed off kitchens myself. (From a food preparation point of view open kitchens seem to never be "closed for business" and encourage over-eating.) A: It's possible we'll revert back, but I think open kitchens will be here for a bit longer. I would expect the transition back to closed kitchens will be a slow moving one. **Q: Herringbone floor tile layout in kitchen... which way?** *(in Polls)* Wife and I are at an impasse... we agree on everything about the kitchen tile flooring, just not which direction to run it in!
