**Q: Dining Room Before & After (Wash DC)** *(in Before & After)*

Ok, so it's not 100% done. Need to add recessed lighting & replace the chandelier.
As far as the reno, completely removed all the old paint (prob 5 layers including original from 1921) from all the door frames. Sanded down to the wood. New baseboards. Stained/painted boards to create plank wall.

A: Wow, this is great!  I so love that the original details were kept and enhanced!

**Q: Should we change the window pane size?** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We need to change our windows to double glazing.  Since we have to have them custom made anyway, we have a chance to redesign the window panes. Should we preserve the multiple window pane look as is or should we increase the glass size to create a less cluttered look? Currently, each existing window pane is of the same size, no matter how different the window shape and size are. But we feel they might look too busy around the bay windows.  On the other hand, we don't like big panels which are completely inconsistent with period homes.   Any thoughts of how to divide up the windows?

A: I AGREE, Don't change the windows to more glass, it will completely remove the historic character!

**Q: Need help with this 1960s retro bathroom.** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are on a tight budget. Tile is in great shape, but obviously very dated. Do you think we can make this sunken tub area work, or does it 100% need to be redone?

A: I would attempt to keep, since blue is the new color.

**Q: Opening Sun Room to Living Room** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I recently purchased a 1945 home on the ocean in Marblehead, MA.  I have completed some temporary renovations as seen in the pics below, however I am considering opening up some walls to take advantage of the ocean views.  Specifically between the living and sunroom I was considering removing the wall to creat a "great room" effect opening ocean views into sunroom and garden views into living room.  I was thinking of a library effect against backwall with 3 sets of french doors going out to garden.  Our baby grand piano would also be moved to this area.  Do you agree in removing the wall completely or should we remove a portion to maintain a pass-thru feel?

A: I love the window as an architectural feature, i disagree and believe the window should stay.  Keeping the wall of glass creates interest of whats behind the wall, or I can't wait to get into that room.  Also it allows you to create two very different spaces for more interest!

**Q: What to do with this knotty Pine fireplace** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Can someone please give me some ideas on what to do with this 1950 knotty pine fireplace ......should I paint it or remove it.  HELP

A: I agree with Pauli12, why would you paint the great looking pine?   How about starting with decluttering the bookcase, remove the horse, replace the brass doors and add interesting hardware along with art pieces in the open shelves....

**Q: Garage facelift needed** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Suggestions please for simple, not too expensive, ways (paint, trim, lighting) to make this boxy utilitarian garage visually more compatible with the 1929 whimsical house next to it in the picture.  Paint for the (aluminum?) siding on the sides of the garage and upper half story of the house needs to stay on the light side.  I'm going to be landscaping the front yard in a cottage style.

A: Connect the side door to the garage with a glass breezeway, then add limestone or brick on the corners of the garage where the exterior lights are, add a trim board just under the shingles or from the peak along the roof towards each end, and finally enhance the address and lighting.
