Cosmetic updates to make dated kitchen more modern?** *(in Design Dilemma)* The house is 1931 Spanish Revival but we are looking to make the kitchen as modern and bright as we can on a limited budget. Kitchen is generally in great shape. Just needs cosmetic updates. Planning to repaint the cabinets (white?), remove the "notched" cabinet detailing if possible, and change the hardware/drawer pulls. ANY ADVICE ON THE BACKSPLASH? OR ANY OTHER TIPS TO MAKE THE KITCHEN MORE MODERN AND FABULOUS? A: We would suggest subway travertine with the occasional glass color spot for the backsplash.
