> Working with Greg, Kathleen, and Rex was fantastic. We set out to completely transform our front, back, and side yards, which was a big undertaking as first-time homeowners. They made the process fun and effortless, while still including us in all design decisions so we could be a part of making it special. Rudy and the work crew also have impeccable attention to detail and are extraordinarily skilled.
>
> We are so grateful to Greg & team for making our yard dreams come true and highly recommend their services.

**★ — HU-767765108, April 2021**

> We hired Greg to do landscape design with the intention to use him to execute and support a local business in our neighborhood. What an awful experience it was working with him! We gave him our budget and one guideline, which was to make sure everything could be approved by the city as part of our ADU sign off. He delivered a design that was 3x our budget and broke multiple city rules (% concrete and regulation driveway width). We provided clear feedback in our 1 allotted review and he argued every single change we wanted to make, from paint to lighting. And only after following up via email and phone twice did he try to find a solution to our permit issue, which was to lay turf over a regulation concrete driveway after the city approved. Unfortunately we signed a contract and paid upfront. DO NOT make the same mistake!

> It has been a pleasure to work with Greg, Kathleen, Rex, and their whole crew. If you're looking for truly high quality conceptual design and exceptional execution at a higher end price point, we highly recommend them!
>
> When we started thinking about doing some landscaping at our new house (which badly needed it), we really didn't really know how to begin or how to think about what our space could even be. We interviewed a few different landscape designers and ultimately decided to go with Greg because of the way he talked about design theory. While many of the other designers seemed to be great and had some good ideas, they were very specific and concrete, like "these plants would look good over there." While Greg demonstrated this knowledge as well, he seemed to do a better job at describing why he would do something and how it would make us feel to be in that space. This gave us the confidence that he would come up with a very thoughtful design that would help us make the most of our space and would even exceed what our vision for the space could be.
>
> His design fee was a little more than the other designers, but ultimately we thought it would be worth it for what we imagined would end up being a better design. Also, it seemed like his design fee was more inclusive than some of the other designers. It included a couple design review sessions at his office to talk through exactly what we liked and didn't like from the designs, what we wanted to change, to see and feel some of the materials that would be used, etc., and a 3D design, so we could get a real sense of what the space would feel like when completed.
>
> When we got the design back, we definitely weren't disappointed. Greg and his team thoughtfully designed every inch of our space to make the most out of it, taking into account our mid-design review input. We were surprised by the high price of the proposed overall design, and therefore chose to move forward with only the first phase at that time.
>
> Several months later, the plants and irrigation Greg's and his team installed are thriving, and it's a joy to pick fruit from the orchard trees he suggested we plant, and to see our children learn to appreciate nature. We are very grateful to have the longterm design vision to execute overtime, and we will continue to work with Greg and his team and highly recommend them.

> My wife and I wanted to convert our ugly, unappealing landscape into a nice, drought-tolerant oasis. We each had our own ideas but we lacked the ability to bring our individual perspectives into a cohesive vision. That all changed when we reached out to Greg at Gregory Davis & Associates
> We were very impressed with Greg’s approach, professionalism, and knowledge from day one. Greg and his talented team created a beautiful design that incorporated all of the elements we wanted. We now look out our windows and see a beautifully and relaxing scenery; this has truly exceeded our expectations!

> I called his office today and received a call back from Gregory within a few hours. Although our home address was out of his service area, he spent about 30 minutes on the phone with me while taking a look at our home on the internet and provided us lots of valuable advice on what to do for our issues and where to look for a qualified landscape designer and contractor. I really appreciated the fact he spent his time to do this when we are not really his perspective client. That really shows his dedication to landscaping. Thank you very much Gregory!

**★★★★★ — Roger Hartman, Dec. 2016**

> A good friend of mine had hired Gregory Davis and Associates for his landscaping project, and when I saw it I was so impressed with the design and craftsmanship that I reached out to Greg immediately. (By the way, I had tried and failed to retain several other companies to complete my project over the years, but frankly they kept flaking out.) Greg and I had several great design meetings, and he took my ideas and made them better, in addition to offering many of his own suggestions. His aesthetic and design sense are second to none, and led to an outcome that, while remaining true to my intent, was better than I had imagined. The quality of the work was impeccable, and his team is outstanding. Greg convinced me to expand the scope of the project, and I'm glad I did, because now I have outdoor living spaces in the front and back that look great and flow together really well. I did have to scale back in some areas to keep the cost manageable, but the end result was still great. Greg and I first met in January 2015 and the project was really and truly done by November (though of course how much was being done at any one time varied during the project). I recommend GDA highly. Ideally you have a pretty good idea of what you want to accomplish (and what your budget is) and that you are prepared to be an active participant as the work progresses. If so I am confident that you will be very pleased with the work from Greg and his team.

> Greg Davis' work is incredible! I have photographed a number of his projects in last few years and have been extremely impressed. I have seen before photos of most of the projects, his vision is amazing and his work absolutely transformative. All of the homeowners adore him and have raved how their new outdoor spaces have have enhanced their home and social lives and encouraged them to spend more time outdoors.

**★★★★★ — KRB Construction, Jan. 2015**

> I am a general contractor that does flood work, and I referred Greg to a client who had water flooding under their house from the landscape grading that was higher than the house. Instead of water flowing away from the house the way it should, water flooded under the home causing severe damage to the foundations which had to be totally replaced.
>
> We referred Greg to our client, and needless to say, they were very impressed by the level of knowledge he had about how to correct the grading issues. Additionally, he came up with new landscaping designs that were absolutely amazing. He took the water away from the residence by creating patio decks off the French doors in the dining room and office area and made beautiful living environments for my clients.
>
> I would recommend Greg for all my clients. He turned a bad situation into a very positive and rewarding experience.

> Everything he did was exactly what was needed to perfectly complete the job. He is very professional, artistic, knowledgeable, and just lovely to work with. Over the length of the job we became friends and I will use only his company for any and all of my future landscape needs. He is the best.

**★★★★★ — Claudette Chartrand Interior Design, Nov. 2013**

> I've had the pleasure of working with Greg Davis for many years, and have referred him to do landscaping design and construction for numerous clients.
> As an interior designer, I know the well-designed home is incomplete without interior plants and lush landscaping provided by Greg and his professional team at GDA Landscape. Greg understands the importance of creating indoor/outdoor areas in a home . He provides impressive night time environments with landscape lighting.
> Greg Davis Associates continues to thrive with each successive project and satisfied client due to excellent work done on time and on budget.

## Community Q&A

**Q: estimated cost of this picture** *(in Photo Questions)*

hi, how much would it be to build a Playsets like this?

A: Hi Lucas,
We are a Design & Build Landscape firm creating personalized Indoor/Outdoor lifestyles for Los Angeles West Side homeowners. Blum Park features a sports entertainment pavilion, picnic and BBQ yard, a full basketball court with lounge viewing and kids playground. A trail and road leads up to the main residence near the top of a hill. We created this for a young couple and their two young kids to safely enjoy at home with their friends and family.

**Q: Problems I am having in my front yard** *(in Photo Questions)*

As I am coming towards the end of a very long expensive and back breaking landscape project in which I took out all the grass and planted drought tolerant plants as well as using dg and crushed decorative rocks for the topping, I am finding it a daily task to try to keep the neighbors leaves, grass clippings, tiny tree and shrub droppings off my yard. Its very frustrating because as you know dg and small crushed stone looks beautiful when freshly put down but it is easy for accumulations of wind swept miscellaneous to get entangled within these toppings. So what do you suggest? The dg and crushed rock is not very solid as in having a hard crust, and I only hardened it with water.Even when I use a hose I notice the dirt under the dg seems to come to the surface and show through. Perhaps I need a thicker layer or I can now only water by drip which I have not fulling set up yet.I tried a blower but it was way to powerful and blew everything around. I am pretty meticulous but bending down every day to pick up all the debris is painful when you have a bad back. What suggestions can you give me to remedy these issues? Thank you,Debbie

A: For best value I recommend you consult a gardener in your immediate neighborhood for a consultation and quote.

**Q: Concrete color** *(in Photo Questions)*

What is the beautiful concrete color and treatment? Thank you

A: Concrete? No, these are beautiful Travertine Tiles in two colors laid over this condo patio deck. Tiles of any materials can dress up a plan concrete surface. A new pour of integral color concrete is an inexpensive option for new pours for drives, walks and patios.

**Q: Have sloped yard facing LA Basin... Need similar design...** *(in Photo Questions)*

What size are the timbers? Are they pressure treated or plain wood?

A: Hi Troy,
We used pressure treated landscape timbers 6"x6"x8' with 1in rebar to construct these terraced pathways, stairs, seating areas, vegetable garden, orchard and at the very bottom a Tai Chi Pad. Clients had no idea we were also addressing this "unusable" hillside as part of their whole property design and were quite excited when we presented our ideas. This is now a favorite part of their new "Outdoor Lifestyle".
Hoping you'll get lots of enjoyment from your completed project.
Best, Greg

**Q: Spiral slide** *(in Photo Questions)*

Great design. What size spiral slide is this(5ft, 7ft, other)?

A: Hello "acsicsila",

SUCH a technical question for a landscape design installed years ago!
Most important is that you honor your design concept with correct design decisions.
From your HOUZZ Portfolio I noticed you collected photos of similar slides from other landscape contractors. If you are a do-it-yourself homeowner then simply Google "Playground slide equipment" at your location to get advice and specifications from local vendors. If not, trust your preferred landscape contractor to assist you in these decisions.
Safety, Good Fun and Practicality in Design will drive this answer.
Feel free to call me directly for best advice.
Warmest Regards, Greg Davis 310-558-5544

**Q: Where did you get the furniture?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I like the lines on the lower seating area chairs. Can you recall what brand/style they are?

A: Really stylish and comfortable furnishings are key to making outdoor rooms inviting and usable. Thick Sunbrella covered cushions are very durable and can be left outdoors uncovered. These Teak chairs are the clients from their covered patio. There are too many brands and styles to recommend but for uncovered outdoor spaces and low maintenance; I recommend anything but teak. Google "Patio Furnishings" Images for a huge selection.
Best, Greg
