I have been in the business of making furniture for 35 years, 27 on my own. In that time, I've designed and built custom furniture and cabinetry for small businesses and individual homeowners tailored to their needs, with a goal of delighting them with the final result. Over my career, I've learned to be attuned to clients' furnishing needs both as they were able to articulate them and also as an interpreter of what they could only roughly imagine. Part of my philosophy has been to involve my clients in the design process making the result a collaborative effort, blending what they envisioned with my interpretation of how those imaginings could be effectively produced. My emphasis has been upon quality at every stage of the relationship, from meeting to communicating to the use of the best materials to final satisfaction with a superb product.

My products are usually original and one-of-a-kind creations, though I do build 'interpretations' of period pieces. Solid hardwood or fancy veneers. Paint or wood finishes. The span of my offering includes: dining room tables and chairs, free-standing storage cabinets, kitchen accessory furniture, bedroom furniture, sideboards, chairs, coffee tables, end tables, wine servers in North American hardwoods, though I will admit to having used pine and reclaimed 'factory wood' on occasion.

### Typical Job Cost

$1,000 - 7,500

Since most of my products are custom-made, there are no fixed 'one-price-fits-all' costs. I generally work within a range that's competitive but based mainly upon the design complexity which then drives directly how many hours it takes me to produce. There is not usually a big variation in the cost of materials as most North American hardwoods cost roughly the same in the grade that I use.

### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Joanne Sterling, March 2019**

> Clark designed and built a beautiful cherry sideboard for me recently. It is a delightful solution to a serious space issue in my small house. Clark is both friendly and professional. He listened carefully to the problem I was trying to solve and gave me a number of design options so I could choose the elements I wanted. His final product exceed my expectations and imagination. I love this piece!

**★★★★★ — Jimbo Nocito, Feb. 2019**

> Clark is a friend, so we were aware of his work for some time. We were preparing a renovation for our house and our first phase was a hand crafted table by Peaslee Design. Clark ask good questions about our tastes, and then designed and built the most beautiful table we could ask for. This table is the central piece for our family. Our house renovations are literally being designed around this table. Thanks Clark!!

**★★★★★ — Merryl R, Dec. 2018**

> Clark is a visionary who took my ideas and not only made them come alive, but took them to the next level and gave me more than I could have imagined. His consultation (good questions and listening skills) made me feel like he knew exactly what I was looking for. This, combined with his creativity and top notch design & build furniture, make Clark a cut above the rest. I would highly recommend him; my whole kitchen remodel is beautiful - I constantly get positive comments from friends and family.

**★★★★★ — John Weisman, Nov. 2018**

> Clark is the epitome of a true craftsman. He is kind, patient and a great listener. He plans out projects in detail and works with his clients on every aspect of the project. With Clark there are no dumb questions.
> When asked to design a very unique cabinet for sacred scrolls he was intrigued and up to the task. He delivered on time and within the budget. He accommodated last minute field changes without hesitation. The finished product is truly a work of art.
> You cannot find a more professional craftsman. Job well done.

**★★★★★ — Jason Schmirdlap, May 2016**

> It has been our pleasure to work with Clark several times on a variety of furniture pieces. He listens closely, and applies a high level of creativity, detail consciousness, and craft to every project. The results have been superb. We recommend him highly.

**★★★★★ — Catherine Gerry Interiors, Dec. 2015**

> Clark Peaslee is a terrific furniture and cabinetmaker. As an Interior Designer I must work with companies that I can depend on. They must be able to complete the job in a timely fashion, within the quote submitted and with impeccable craftsmanship. Not only is Clark able to do all of that, he is a great listener, follows through with every design detail, and generously spends time working through a process. The end result is that he always creates a beautiful and well crafted piece.

**Comment from peaslee design:**

> Thank you, Catherine! This latest project we worked on came out beautifully and was a win/win. Sometimes the most challenging ones work out the best because they require such collaboration.

**★★★★★ — ftgx99, Oct. 2015**

> I hired Clark Peaslee to design and build in line wall mounted book shelves in my living room. He was very detailed and thoughtful when we chose the design of the units. The craftsmanship and pricing was very good and he worked with me in completing this project in 2 phases. The second part of the project was installing Wainscoting in the hallway which connected to the book shelves. This project also came out better than I thought and gives the interior of the house a more sophisticated look you normally see in a million dollar home.

**★★★★★ — Design Enthusiast, Sept. 2015**

> Sometimes a client needs something special - something truly personal - and of the finest quality. That's where Peaslee Design comes in. Totally unique furnishings, made with loving hands and with a keen eye and understanding towards the scope of the project. I've referred Clark to several clients, none of whom were disappointed.

**★★★★★ — hvpi, July 2015**

> Clark created a custom cabinet for our dining room. The piece is a work of art that will no doubt become a family heirloom. It is extremely functional, too. He is an excellent designer with a refined sense of esthetics as well as a consummate craftsman.

**Comment from peaslee design:**

> Thank you, Rebecca, for this review. It was a privilege to have worked up the design for the space together. In bringing it to life, this piece became one of my finest creations.

> I had a very large wall unit designed and built for my living room. I wanted a contemporary look to fit the room and made so it looked like it was make specifically for the room as well as a showcase for several of my husband's stone sculptures. The results achieved that goal. It's a beautiful piece of furniture which adds a rich feel to the room.

**★★★★★ — Luminosus Designs LLC, Feb. 2014**

> After careful vetting, I hired Clark Peaslee to make several pieces of built-in's, media cabinets, as well as night stands for a project of mine. I am very glad I chose to work with him on this project. I am very pleased with his work, and the installation went smoothly. He is very professional, and very accommodating to changes. I am confident that I will be working with him in the future on many more projects.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Love the stool. What kind of wood is it?** *(in Product Questions)*

A: Thanks so much! One of my favorite designs. White Oak.

**Q: 80" wide??? It that per just half of this?** *(in Product Questions)*

A: Quite right, just half. Overall is more like 168". Thanks for bringing this to my attention; I'll amend the listing.

**Q: Is this a custom, built in or a piece of furniture. Please provide det** *(in Photo Questions)*

This is a beautiful aNd functional piece. Would love to know more about to. Thanks

A: I did not build or design this, just commented on it for a client of mine. That said, I did just design, build and install a custom 'mudroom' cabinet about a month ago. Here's a pic:

**Q: I need help!! Pine hutch - my husband built it.....** *(in Design Dilemma)*

As a first anniversary gift 18 years ago. It was stained natural, but has turned a lovely orange. I have white kitchen cabinets, and my table and chairs are oak stained in dark walnut.
How do I update this sentimental piece without ruining it?
Thanks for any ideas!

A: I have to say that as a maker, if my wife wanted to stain or paint a piece I had made for her in commemoration of our marriage, I would be mildly offended.
It is a beautiful piece. 'Updating' it is a bit of a misnomer. In ten years, or five, the fad will be for something else. By the way, in order to 'stain' it if that's what you choose to do, you will need to strip it to the bare wood as I'm sure there is some kind of top coat over the color. If you go right over the existing finish, it's 'glazing' not 'staining' which entails a whole different set of challenges and possible outcomes.
Every piece in a room has a different character and makes its own contribution to the overall feeling. You're very fortunate to own something with such charm and history. If you really need to make a change by way of an 'update', though, I'd suggest doing something with the glass panels. Hopefully, they're held in place with removable stops inside. Try Bendheim for some fabulous glass panel ideas.

**Q: Where can I purchase this table?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Most of what I do is to order. I'd be happy to talk with you about building one for you or your client.

**Q: Need help finding dining chairs and table** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Looking for dining chairs and/or table like the ones in this magazine photo...has anyone seen anything similar?

A: You can get exactly what you want by having it made for you, often at less than high-end manufacturers' mark-up.
