The project required that a contemporary design be integrated into a 1902 Arts and Crafts style house. It also required a design that unified two contiguous and disparate spaces and which juxtaposed itself against existing architectural upgrades. And finally, it required a design that would be functional but unique. Michael Amantea embraced all of these objectives with sensitivity and relish. Historical elements from the original house inspired components of his new design in ways that were evocative and harmonious rather than literal. He and his team enthusiastically explored cutting edge ideas and technologies. The outcome was beautiful and highly innovative; the detailing and execution were cohesive, careful and precise. Michael proved himself willing to be as collaborative with the client in design development as the client wished him to be – in our case, collaborative in the extreme.
