His professional achievements include receiving the 2006 AIA Austin Young Architectural Professional Award as well as more than 20 design awards, including two national AIA awards and the Chicago Athenaeum American Architecture Award. Winner of the prestigious Lyceum Fellowship, he was also twice a finalist in Van Alen Institute competitions, including the Paris Prize. His work has appeared in numerous magazines and newspapers, and he is currently a lecturer at the University of Texas at Austin, where he has also been a visiting critic. Murray is also a co-founder of LeggeLewisLegge, an interdisciplinary collaborative, based in Austin and New York . With a focus on large-scale installations, public art and landscape design, LeggeLewisLegge has been widely recognized including receiving the 2010 Austin Art in Public Places Community Arts Award. The studio received an honorable mention in the international design competition for the Flight 93 memorial and was a finalist in the Boston Logan Airport 9/11 memorial competition. Since when can most people claim that about any aspect of a multi-faceted building project? > > I usually found myself wide-eyed at the eloquence of his suggestions and solutions to any designs problems. He made great use of the exterior environment: he accentuated the view of the creek, minimized the impact of my house's forgettable driveway, and formed an inviting approach that neatly defines an outdoor patio area that, while small, adds to the appeal of the apartment whether looking from the outside or the apartment's interior. He made great use of the interior environment: had I ever even noticed the 60 year-old concrete wall at the back of the garage that was the catalyst for the rest of his inspired design? But above all, his take on light has got to be one of the traits that sets him apart, or at least that quality alone will have me coming back for his counsel when the wherewithal is in place. With seven windows (another indication of good luck!) bordering the 375 square foot studio and translucent polygal panels on three sides, the apartment will never be considered gloomy. The space is infused with a sublime gleam.
