**★★★★★ — Geralyn Ferrari, Jan. 2018**

> I have known Selma for several years and I have admired her eye for design and her devotion to detail in her projects. Finally, I was looking to hire Selma for an update in the main floor of my own house and I must say that wish I hadn't waited so long! Selma is easy to work with. She aims to please and she takes the time to listen and understand her client. She totally understood my request and she exceeded my expectations. She came in budget and with enthusiasm too! Not only did Selma bring a new and updated beauty to my home, her work makes being home feel happy and pretty again.

**★★★★★ — Matt Nearpass, Sept. 2017**

> We have used, and continue to use, Selma Hammer Designs for both of our businesses, an Acupuncture Clinic (Perinton Family Acupuncture) and a Wine Bar (Cork49 Wine Bar). She is both professional and a pleasure to work with. We are very pleased with how our projects turned out. In both cases, she managed all aspects of the project, from design through the completion of the build out. It was great that she also has existing contractor relationships to draw from, which made the entire effort turn-key for us. Our customers regularly comment on how much they like the design.

**★★★★★ — lbhauser, Jan. 2015**

> I have not only had the pleasure of working with SHD personally, but have witnessed her design work with other clients as well. First and foremost, Selma listens to her clients, observes and absorbs her clients taste in both likes and dislikes, and works within the budget allotted. Her sense of color, textures, and placement of décor is brilliant. Highly recommend SHD for a consultation and ultimately hiring her to transform any room. Beautiful work!

**★★★★★ — Reagan Burns, Jan. 2015**

> Selma is so easy to work with and I felt completely comfortable placing the design in her hands. She listens to what you need and want and then formulates an idea and plan around that. She doesn't compromise functionality for design, but rather creates a perfect marriage between the two.

 - Description: A very functional kitchen but also one that looks striking. The focal point of the kitchen is the mosaic marble tile design below the stainless steel hood. This kitchen marries traditional looking cabinetry with the sleek modern stainless steel and old world style of full marble 1"x1" tile backsplash. We contrasted the dark stained traditional cabinetry with white granite countertops. The movement and chunks of green in the island remind us of the ocean and sea glass. The kitchen is functional,…

 - Description: Taking a small space and using the space functional, aesthetically pleasing to entertain clients with an affinity for world class wine tasting, flights and bottles. The style is a mixture of on trend brushed golds, copper, industrial piping, technology, tin ceilings and comfort to make a space worth hanging out and enjoying. ## Community Q&A

**Q: Help w coffee table decor** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Any ideas on coffee table decor pls? Thank u!

A: A design book or fashion book, a mirrored tray, and a small silver box. I'm attaching an example. Fresh flowers are always a plus with votives candle holders. Happy decorating! Photo credit to thedecorista.com

**Q: Help with Computer/Sitting Room** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Excuse the clutter. I have sold my piano so nothing is staying in this 11x14 room except the Secretary. Any help please for design? We would want in updated computer desk and maybe a chair and rug.

A: My initial vision is a soft green color wall with a gray undertone, keep the drapes and find a rug that is cream in background and has reds, greens, browns and yellows in a traditional pattern.

**Q: Living room** *(in Design Dilemma)*

The fireplace enclosure was solid oak so we decided to cover it with a stone product. Unfortunately after multiple trips to the stores, it seems we have chosen a bad color. Thought there was more beige pieces. Staircase to upper floor is in the living room so room is small. Love my chairs but fear I may now have to replace them with a different color.....or ask my husband to tear down the stone work and start again. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Perhaps a new rug in a different color. Really love the chairs..... Wall paint appears yellow in the photo. It is not. It is BM cream beige.

A: I would suggest getting the chairs recovered. They do blend in too much with the fireplace. I do like the fireplace stone selection. Try to add some more vibrant colors to the space. I know this may cause you uncertainty but a contrast will make a big difference. The rug is a good start.

**Q: Bedroom decoration** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We put new bed and wardrobe in our very small bedroom and now I would like to put some frames or arts on walls... but not sure what are the "rules" what would look nicer... this picture is not on proper place it stays like that from old bed.....

photos arent the best... the wall behind the bed is rainy

A: I would go with something softer like in the picture, when searching you can put in linen shade sconces. I agree about changing them out to something more cozy and welcoming.

**Q: Please Help! I don't know how to fix this TV nook space!!!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

When we moved in the house the nook had a very outdated oak built-in so we removed it, planning to do something at a later date... now we are having a very hard time how to fill the space!! The opening is 83" and the TV is 55" but we may get a 60". I don't like the console (too modern and color is wrong) so we plan to get rid of it. Our kitchen which is behind me, has off-white cabinetry so we thought of lightening the walls and making a built-in the color of the cabinetry but I'm afraid it will look like a big mess! I like the idea of covering the TV with doors but not sure how. Maybe we should just try to find a stand alone unit that fits? I've looked at many, many photos but nothing seems to look right. We plan to install gray and beige stacked ledger-stone on the fireplace to the right with a reclaimed wood mantle shelf. Would appreciate any ideas!!

A: I would definitely buy a stand alone entertainment center, either an industrial look or a more casual painted furniture look. Not sure of your personal style. You need something taller, at least twice as tall as what you have now. You could use a buffet type table and wall mount your TV but a larger size. You could also add a grass cloth or textured wallpaper to make the bump out space really pop and stand out versus an unusual space that you don't want to highlight currently. I would flank both sides of the space where the wall is not recessed with some duplicate mirrors or pictures that are the same size. Even some fun star burst mirrors would be fun or some metal leaf artwork. Good luck!

**Q: Need Help Choosing Curtains** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Ok, so we are getting ready for our son to be born here in a few weeks and I am having a hard time deciding what color/pattern curtains to put in his nursery. The main colors of the room are light blue and a shade of white. His glider is on its way and that is a light gray color. His mobile and quilt are blue, green, light gray and yellow. I was leaning toward white but I am totally unsure at this point. HELP!

Help me decide!

A: You can find this Ellis Curtains at Wayfair.com for the light gray plaid look.
