## Community Q&A

**Q: Is this regular plumbing pipe?** *(in Photo Questions)*

just wondering about the material and how it will hold up or discolor over time...

A: you can use black pipe as well but it requires a lot of degreasing and tends to be marred up by manufacturing and handling.  often getting a custom made 1-1/4 tube rail from a fab shop can be pretty competitive when you consider the cost of all the pipe fittings and the labor, especially if you don't powder coat and just finish with some wax or laquer.  Every commercial and multi family building has a pile of them so the shops get good at it.

**Q: Love those cabinets, where I can find out more info on them and price** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hey Denise,  Those cabinets were made for us by a custom cabinet maker who we work with all the time here in Missoula.  They are made of clear cherry with full overlay, shaker style, flat panel doors.  I hesitate to comment on price because these were built a few years ago now and the cost of a kitchen full of cabinets can vary a lot depending on how many doors and drawers you have, what kind of material you use for the carcases, and how much specialty hardware you request.  Most custom cabinets are going to be more expensive than the semi custom factory cabinets but you will have a lot more flexibility to get exactly what you want.  I hope this helps, feel free to ask if you have more specific questions.

A: The whole space is 35" wide, 36" deep and 112" tall.

**Q: piping** *(in Photo Questions)*

what is used under each shelf on pipe to support the shelf?

A: That is just little piece of angle iron that I drill and countersink.

**Q: Kitchen layout help** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We are just building a house, and trying to decide on kitchen layout.  I've attached the floorplan.  The floorplan shows a peninsula.  We're debating adding another peninsula on the left side, but not sure how we could make it work with the fridge?  The door to the back yard can be moved over if needed.  We're also thinking about an island instead of the peninsula that is there in the plan.  I really love islands, but just not sure we can make it work with this layout.  Does anyone have a similar kitchen layout?  Also, if anyone has a similar kitchen/living room layout, I'd love to see it!  The TV will be above the fireplace on the right exterior wall.  I'm not sure how to arrange things so the the kitchen flows nicely into the living room.

A: For what it is worth I love having a roomy prep space on an island immediately adjacent from the range so that it is really easy to turn around with very few steps.  If you switched from peninsula to island I think you will ease the transition from kitchen to living room greatly and if there are stools at the island with some good lighting it becomes the center of life in the mornings and evenings.  Without knowing your whole situation a window or two on the "east" side (if that is east) would give some great morning light.  The pantry is also taking up some valuable centralized kitchen real estate which, if converted to more "kitchen triangle" activities might make the whole thing run more efficiently.  Good Luck!
