You should hire them. > > Long version…. > > After doing extensive homework and meeting with 10 different companies we hired Botanical for a landscape design to help put our ideas on paper. Our backyard was a mix of an old eroding retaining wall and a much larger natural area beneath that wasn't very accessible / usable and prone to flash floods. We knew the final project was going to be a material expense, and we were turned off by most firms that did not want to invest a couple of hours to adequately put a basic design on paper (even when we were willing to pay for such services). Most others were build-oriented for smaller jobs with fewer requirements. > > After a couple of on-site discussions Annie and Rachel did an excellent effort in translating our thoughts into a beautiful yet practical CAD plan within a couple of weeks (modest fee to cover costs). They also provided a bid for the build itself and while not inexpensive we were confident based on reviews and references the work quality would be outstanding. We used the plan to collect another bid from another highly rated firm on Houzz as a sanity check and then decided to move ahead with Botanical. The only downside was having to wait 4-6 months until they had space for their next large project. > > Fortunately after about 3 months one of their clients' schedule changed in our favor which allowed our 5-6 week project to begin early. Throughout the build we were consistently impressed and the team lived up to the high expectations we had from all these reviews. They were professional, extremely nice to interact with, kept the work site safe/clean, and their craftsmanship was amazing. I loved the days I could partially work from home and watch them efficiently do such challenging work while keeping an eye for detail. They took pride in their work and did not cut corners. Annie & Rachel were routinely on site and communicated well with us throughout. They helped us make real-time tweaks to the design and advised how we could save money as we expanded the scope slightly. > > One of the great advantages we also experienced and not written on these reviews was Annie’s network of additional partners built on many years of working relationships. We leveraged her electrician, lighting & irrigation specialist, structural engineer for water-facing retaining walls, and deck/fencing partner. We interviewed several for the latter project expansion as it was expensive but still ended back with hers (Abe from Austin Deck Company). All coordinated extremely well with the Botanical team. > > All in all we are VERY satisfied with Botanical and will go to them for any future needs. Over the course of the build there were a few hiccups due to weather and our changes but we were flexible on timing. Most importantly Annie & the team were committed to doing a fantastic job. We have a dry creek running across our backyard that flows only after heavy rains, but this caused our backyard to be intermittently muddy for weeks at a time. Annie & Rachael designed a new dry creek bed with a rock bottom and large boulders along the edge. The plantings and rock work are beautiful and very natural looking. The new creek bed keeps the water flowing and no more muddy yard after it rains. Annie & Rachael were very fun to work with, but they're also very professional. We couldn't be happier with the results. The project also came in under budget, by about 10% less than the original proposed cost. I've never had someone give me an initial bid and then tell me at the end that it would actually cost less than the original proposal. Botanical Concerns took our completely nondescript slopping backyard and created our dream garden! What amazes us is that the boulder work is so well done. It is as if the boulders were original to the property. Attention to every detail was taken. As we walk through the garden, each view surpasses the next. Probably one of our favorite views though is the white aggregate sitting area off of our covered patio with its Japanese water feature surrounded with bamboo muhly grass and lorapetalum. The orange lower perennial is bulbine. Keep in mind the Lorapetalums come in many sizes, many varieties so be sure to get one that matures to the appropriate height for your space. The range can be from 4' to 12'. Big difference. **Q: What are the specifics on the big rock pavers? Where can I get them?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: We ordered the big blocks limestone from A.J. Bauer in Jarrell, Texas. This is a big quarry just north of Austin. **Q: What is the limestone on the exterior of the house?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: Tan lueder.
