I was not looking to buy a fish tank at the time I made this purchase. I did so after a friend asked if I would be willing to help fund her nephews company GreenTowers. They had a prototype of a custom made cabinet fish tank that allows you to not only keep fish but to grow plants via aquapontics as well. After researching the company and what their goals for the future were I immediately ordered the tank. I chose the cherry wood. The workmanship on the cabinet itself is beautiful. The order was handled in a timely manner and they kept us informed via email as to the status. The piece was hand delivered to my house by one of the owners. He had planned to set it up for me. I had been in the process of remodeling my home and expected to have it finished by the time he arrived. Due to high levels of Formaldehyde in my home as a result of flooring purchased from Lumber Liquidators I could not have the tank set up until my flooring is replaced as this could be hazardous to the fish. Prior to arrival we received a list of plants which they had found to work well in this environment. We also received information regarding amount of fish which would be suitable for the tank. I could not be more pleased with my purchase. It is beautiful and functional piece of furniture that fits well into my decor. I am looking forward to being able to actually set it up for use when it is safe to do so. They are more than willing to walk me thru the process when I am ready to do so. This company is a group of young man dedicated to sustainability and finding unique ways to improve the environment thru the use of organic farming methods. I look forward to doing business with them in the future. I want to PLAY with seeds, have a spot to transplant and propagate and have quite time all to myself. I'm planning on having electric for heat, and light, but the main light is to come from the sun in the winter months when there are no leaves on the trees. The window wall that will provide the sun exposure is facing south. Picture library documenting progress will begin when we begin. Getting bids for ground work that we are subbing out. What are the dimensions of your greenhouse? **Q: Easy care garden plan for seniors** *(in Design Dilemma)* We are older seniors, still enjoying our own home, a bungalow. While we love spending time outdoors, we no longer have the energy to keep up with all our perennial beds so are looking for some simple garden designs in the new style of mass plantings of the same plant, simple, easy care, with lots of mulch in between. To that end, we have been ripping out all misbehaving plants, adding hostas, hydrangeas and coral bells to the existing shrubs, vines and day lilies, but would love to have a simple plan to work towards. Does anyone know of a book or plan for something like this? So far I have not found one, and think it would be a best seller, as there are a lot of us out there with the same dilemma who prefer our own homes to condo living, but are struggling with the extra work of our perennial gardens! A: Would you consider doing a raised bed garden? We have worked with a few retirement communities around us and they all love the idea of being able to garden without bending over. **Q: TINY backyard challenge** *(in Design Dilemma)* I just purchased my first home in Long Beach, CA and I am looking for ways to utilize an extremely small backyard. Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated! A: How about a garden? You could get a small footprint vertical garden growing along that left wall, and still have room for a small patio, furniture, and grill. **Q: need help with small garden area** *(in Design Dilemma)* create small garden from area where no grass will grow, possibly using containers. A: I would need some more info like the amount of light, orientation, and location of the space, but if you are trying to maximize the amount of plants you can grow I would definitely recommend a vertical growing tower. We build small-footprint vertical greenhouses - here is a picture of one that we built in State College, PA. **Q: New house atrium** *(in Design Dilemma)* What should I do with this space? We are closing on this home in 20 days the air handler is out in this area there is a drain for water accumulation and needs new screen installed. But what are your thoughts about the area? A: This is a great opportunity to have a semi-enclosed garden right next to the kitchen. With some raised beds you should be able to grow a nice supply of herbs, tomatoes, and greens. If you are worried about maintenance, a hydroponic system could work well here. **Q: My new home has a greenhouse on the property. Not sure where to begin.** *(in Greenhouses & Garden Structures)* I just moved into my first house and it came with a greenhouse in the garden. I have zero gardening experience but would love to begin learning and growing my own herbs and tomatoes. I would really like to get some opinions on the greenhouse, since I have absolutely no clue what I'm looking at. It seems very old and I'm wondering if it's even functional. Looks like it once had heating and fluorescent lighting systems. Very curious to see what everyone thinks. Any suggestions on how to get started would be much appreciated. A: +1 to Oakhill's comment--you'll likely have a fair amount of trouble with fruiting crops or even edible leafy greens with a roof that seems (at least from the pictures) to be so opaque, which is probably why they used to have the fluorescent tube lighting. The clear polycarbonate panels are \*reasonably\* easy to install (same corrugated design as it looks like your current roof has), and they sell them at the big chain hardware stores like Home Depot. --- *Source: Houzz professional profile.
