Axel began his career in the construction industry in 1980 in Munich, Germany as an apprentice in timber framing. After graduating in 1983, he immigrated to Canada to work in construction and also learn North American framing. From 1983 to 1989, he worked in the greater Vancouver area as a carpenter in construction trade while simultaneously furthering his education in the field. He then oversaw numerous projects while working as a Supervisor for the Blackcomb Building Department from 1989 to 1995. Axel founded Schreyer Construction in 1995 and has since completed many successful projects. He is also a proud member of numerous organizations, including the Canadian Home Builders Association, where he served as Director and President of the local chapter. He continues to stay abreast of the latest developments and advancements in the industry, specifically related to healthy building and energy efficiency. Katarina was educated at the Economic University, Faculty of Trade in Slovakia, where she received her "Engineer of Trades" degree. Her master thesis "Design of Commercial Interiors" in 1991 was her first step into the world of interior design. Since 1993, she has been associated with Schreyer Construction as CFO and Residential Project Consultant. She has since received her degree in Interior Design from the Interior Design Institute in Vancouver. In the last few years, Schreyer Construction has garnered a number of awards, and their work has been featured in Luxury Home Canada Magazine, Whistler Magazine, Westcoast Homes, Design Magazine and BC Homes Magazine. The company has also been involved in a number of conservation projects- most recently, the restoration of a boat house. We were several months negotiating with the Insurance Company and getting the 'emergency work done. We then hired Schreyer Construction to complete the reconstruction / upgrade of our house. It was a complicated job on both a physical basis and cost basis. The house had been basically gutted and part of the work was on a fixed price, part was on a cost + basis to the Insurance company and part was payable by us for upgrade work, which was extensive. Axel and Katarina did an excellent job of both the physical work and keeping fair and honest track of all the 'adds and deletes'. A: The stringers were designed in house, locally custom made in Pemberton BC by Proteck Industries and stained by Mountain Timber Restoration. Treads were custom made by European flooring Group in Victoria. **Q: Feedback** *(in Photo Questions)* I really wish questions were answered more frequently. My biggest complaint about Houzz. A: Not thru the tags. The tags are available to you to source the product yourself (save some money) or ask your designer to do that for you if you have hired one. Houzz is fantastic idea, however lots of work if one wants to be 100% active and on "top of it" all the time. Answering questions for example might take some time.
