### Featured Review

**★★★★★ — Richard Hasting, Dec. 2021**

> David Manning has been in the architecture and design process with us for a year now, from helping us decide which lot to purchase, and we are finally breaking ground on our custom home in the hill country in about 2 weeks. It has been long and difficult to create our own custom home design that fits the special location, the design requirements and budgetary constraints. David has worked diligently to create the design that really fits our needs. He has always been available for consultations and requests. I am certain that he did not expect us to be as demanding as we have been, but he has handled our process with patience, professionalism, and perseverance.
> I would recommend David for any custom design you might need.
> As the home starts to take shape, I will come back and post some photos.
> In summary, David has been a pleasure to work with, and if I ever require another custom build designed (God forbid), David is my guy.

**★★★★★ — Remodel and additions, Dec. 2025**

> Ive worked with David on multiple residential projects, and he’s one of the best architects I’ve collaborated with. As an engineer, I really appreciate how clean, accurate, and buildable his plans are. He communicates clearly, responds quickly, and always designs with both the client and construction team in mind. Highly recommend David for any custom home or remodel project.

**★★★★★ — Stupa of Reconciliation Southwest New Mexico, Dec. 2025**

> I’ve worked with David on several unique architectural projects over the years and have always been impressed by his attention to detail and his patience with the design process. Whether you’re an owner/builder or contractor, there is no way around it… artful and functional design is a collaborative effort. I can’t recommend David enough for his creative inspiration and his willingness to go the distance with his client.

**★★★★★ — Ben Swanson, Dec. 2025**

> David was a great partner for our attic conversion. He was very attentive throughout the process. I would love to work with him again

**★★★★★ — jordonmom, Dec. 2025**

> David Manning is one of the most innovative architects that I've seen. He manages to blend form and function beautifully. He really listens to your needs and offers great suggestions and options. He is a creative, an artist, and a wonderful person to boot! He is gentle and kind, but don't let that make you think he doesn't know his stuff...because he definitely does! He designed our new staff office building and we couldn't be more pleased. Simple, clean, functional, yet really interesting! We love it and would highly recommend David Manning Architecture!

**★★★★★ — Crafted Hills Construction, Dec. 2025**

> I’ve had the pleasure of working with David on multiple projects, and each experience has been exceptional. His professionalism, prompt communication, and attention to detail are truly what set him apart in our industry. David is reliable, easy to collaborate with, and consistently delivers thoughtful, well-executed designs. If you’re looking for a talented and trustworthy architect, you simply can’t go wrong with David.

**★★★★★ — Verna, Dec. 2025**

> Working with David Manning on the remodel of our 65-year-old home has been an outstanding experience. He guided us through both the renovation and the planning of our upcoming extension with professionalism and genuine care. David is incredibly easy to communicate with and consistently took the time to understand our needs, translating them into thoughtful, well-designed plans that truly fit our lifestyle.
> His creativity shows in every detail, and his friendly, approachable nature made the entire process enjoyable. On top of that, his pricing was fair and never felt exorbitant, which we greatly appreciated. We couldn’t be happier with the results and are grateful to have him supporting our project. Highly recommended!

**★★★★★ — Eli Valenzuela, Dec. 2025**

> David is a great architect. He is very attentive and works with his clients to perfect their design while still making sure that the overall budget is considered along the way. We have worked with him on several custom home projects. His designs look great on paper and even better as a finished product. I definitely recommend talking to him first when you are considering building a custom home.

**★★★★★ — staceyvela, Dec. 2023**

> David has been an exceptional architect throughout our project journey. From the inception of initial sketches to navigating the complexities of permits and liaising with structural engineers, contractors, and city officials, his guidance has been invaluable.
>
> David's expertise ensured every step, from the first drawing to permit approvals, was handled with precision and professionalism. He truly goes above and beyond to deliver exceptional service. Highly recommend to anyone considering embarking on a home project! Can't wait for the final results. :)

**★★★★★ — Hannah, March 2023**

> We interviewed a few architects to finish a full remodel project on our house. From the moment we met him, David was very open, incredibly friendly and personable and full of ideas. There was no pressure from David, and he took the time to walk around the house, talk about our ideas, offer his own and go over our partly finished plans. He gave us time to talk and think as we interviewed other architects. For us, the decision to use David was easy. David's price was very reasonable, especially considering his many years of experience and his expertise in his field. Communication with David was easy and he made the process low-stress for us. One thing we really appreciate about David, is that he isn't part of a large firm and you get a very personal and individualized experience. Additionally, he was open to the type of remodel that we wanted, and did not push us towards any trends or any of his own preferences. David is kind, personable, reasonable and experienced!

**★★★★★ — Elisa Ferracane, Jan. 2023**

> We hired David for architectural plans for remodeling our sun room into a proper extra room. From our very first meeting, David was diligent in making sure he understood both of our visions for the remodel, and helping us reconcile the differences. He advised us on both big-picture and more detail-oriented decisions. We had multiple revisions and David was always willing to incorporate them. David was an excellent communicator throughout the project and we wouldn't hesitate to hire him again.

**★★★★★ — noelartiles, Jan. 2023**

> David worked with my wife and I on a new sunroom project. He was a pleasure to work with. He's great at listening to all our concerns, was always willing and receptive to changes we wanted and was always available to chat with us about any concerns. I highly recommend David for any home project.

**★★★★★ — sarkaposey, Jan. 2023**

> David did a great job for us. He was creative but attentive to what we said we needed. His drawings were excellent and well thought out. He also worked well with other contractors and coordinated well with everyone. Great work and I highly recommend him.

**★★★★★ — Jennifer Martinez, Jan. 2022**

> I reached out on Houzz with a dream, and David turned that dream into a reality. I truly believe had it not been for David, we would have let that dream go. He saw my scribble drawing, listened to what I wanted, and delivered a thoughtful, well designed, and more functional layout than I could have imagined. He was also very helpful with city permitting questions.
> David is thoughtful, honest, and a true professional.
> Our addition/remodel is permitted and will be pouring the slab soon. Photos to come!

**★★★★★ — Courtney Fenimore, Dec. 2021**

> David Manning was a joy to work with. He was very open to our ideas, and was willing to do as many revisions and added details as we wished. It was a pleasure working with David. He was always responsive when needing to answer questions to the city, and was willing to go above and beyond to make sure our plans were perfect for us and the way we live.

**★★★★★ — P. Shaver, Jan. 2021**

> David Manning offers a rare combination of exceptional architectural design talent combined with integrity. I highly recommend his services. One of his best traits is being a good listener to understand the customer's desired project and design goals. Then he applies his skill to make it happen. I also found him readily available for onsite and offsite consultations as needed.

**★★★★★ — Meredith, Dec. 2020**

> David was very personable and enthusiastic. He did a good job of advocating for my goals, and I had confidence in his trustworthiness. He was also able to make suggestions on practical matters but also had creative ideas.

**★★★★★ — Jofrett Blackman, Dec. 2020**

> Highly recommended. David was very professional, easy to work with, very responsive to all of our questions, super fair with his pricing. I have work with other architects before and David has been by far our best experience

**★★★★★ — casita2, Dec. 2020**

> Manning Architecture helps us realize our dreams into reality. David considers our aesthetics, ideas, and how we live with the terrain, lighting, and views delivering a design well beyond what we hope for in our project.

> David was great to work with on our hunting cabin expansion. He made the budget work and fit the design in to match our expansion cabin. It has been a great addition to the property.

**★★★★★ — N Purcell, Jan. 2020**

> I hired David to help with the remodel on an existing space at my home that had been poorly built by a previous owner. David was always timely for his visits, has great communication skills and understood what I was looking for. He completed the necessary drawings in a timely fashion and even went above and beyond the scope of his contract to assist with a permit issue with the City. Thanks, David!
>
> I would gladly use David for future projects as his experience and knowledge were invaluable!

**★★★★★ — Elisabeth Drummond Deutsch, Nov. 2018**

> David is a wonderful professional. It was so refreshing to work with such an experienced, detail oriented architect. From beginning to end the process was extremely meticulous. He kept us informed, stayed as close as possible to the timeline and budget and notified us with specifics along the way. David and his crew performed above our expectations at every turn. We will definitely recommend them to our family and friends.

**★★★★★ — HU-376860108, Nov. 2018**

> I have worked with David many times on projects over the years. He is a problem solver and also is great at thinking outside the box. Some of the elements he created for us across these projects continue to make me smile. Also, David is very pleasant and easy to work with. He doesn’t ever get flustered or frustrated. He loves to hear honest opinion and focus on the idea or issue to get the job done. I give David my highest red commendation. I almost forgot to mention that David is also very reasonable in cost for his services and strives to effectively control overall project costs.

**★★★★★ — Joshua Wilkinson, Nov. 2018**

> David's architecture work has been a joy to collaborate with from day 1. We began our relationship with basic conversations about my goals and quickly took off toward a common end. He has been easy to work with, humble, and happy to iterate/ try different things in the pursuit of customer satisfaction. Would highly recommend.

**★★★★ — Michael Collins, Jan. 2018**

> Although I have known David Manning and his work for over 10 years, I am at the early stage of my first project. David is a knowledgeable, thoughtful, and thorough design architect who melds place, setting, and client's preferences into his designs in a dynamic dialogue. Combined with his skill and inspiration, this insures an outstanding product. When ever I visit his office, David and I discuss projects he is working on or has completed--all of them are impressive. This impression is amply re-inforced by David's numerous repeat customers.

**★★★★★ — David Pope, Dec. 2017**

> David was patient and insightful as we worked through our project plans. We had a list of what we wanted (or thought we wanted), and David provided insights to guide us to a design that was more than what we could have imagined. He was patient as we redrew lines and asked about some alternatives. At the end, I think he knew more of our "style" than we did - and the end result could not have been better.

**★★★★★ — Rebecca and Greg Brou, Dec. 2017**

> Working with David was a wonderful experience. This is our first time to build a home and David guided us through the architectural process so beautifully. We were needing a mobility accessible home designed after Hurricane Harvey destroyed our home. David designed us a beautifully appointed home that will be totally accessible in all areas and yet aesthetically functional for all. He helped us figure out exactly what we needed plus managed to put in all of the things we wanted. He worked with us as a team and was agreeable to meet with us to talk through revisions and ideas.
> The entire experience has given us exactly what we wanted plus a new friend. We cannot wait to see our home get built.

**★★★★★ — Jim Sieh, Dec. 2016**

> David is a people person, professional who will work with the homeowner in developing their design. An artist and an architect. Creative, great humor and listener. He is fair. Both my wife and I had a very positive experience working with David. Call him... We are glad we did.

**★★★★★ — Linne Lemon, Dec. 2016**

> David consulted with us on renovation project. We wanted to keep the same footprint, but wanted to make the space more usable. David gave us lots ofm ideas and produced house plans we can use with the contractors. David suggested for how we can make the most of our footage - while also preparing for future projects above and beyond. Even though our project was not huge, we felt like we were his top priority. David is a pleasure to work with, and gives thoughtful suggestions. We are very glad we listened to him! Cost was extremely competitive. .

**★★★★★ — mdelaisla, May 2016**

> David Manning has worked with us on a couple of relatively small projects, the most recent being a new upscale food trailer park in Austin's Rosedale neighborhood. Both our family and our family business have been an active part of the Rosedale neighborhood for generations and place a priority on being sensitive to the character of central Austin. David takes into consideration environment, feasebility and the City of Austin's maze of regulations to deliver an all encompassing plan. David is our first choice for both our commercial and my residential architectural needs.

**★★★★★ — rreply, Jan. 2016**

> David Manning did excellent design work and went the 2nd mile in determining the acceptability of a slightly-narrower- than-Code passageway by discussing it with Austin's building permit personnel. Thank you, David!

**★★★★★ — colvint, Dec. 2015**

> David Manning is great at taking an idea or concept from a client and turning it into a beautiful reality. He is easy to work with and listened well to arrive at a design that exceeded our expectations but was consistent with our budget. Our project was simple but was treated with the professionalism and focus that I would expect if it were a major endeavor. We are hoping to move forward with implementing his design in early 2016.

**★★★★★ — Jim & Mai H, Dec. 2014**

> Love working with David for our bathroom remodel project. Highly recommended for any project big or small. We are hoping to remodel our kitchen next year and will definitely use David again!

**★★★★★ — bkarbaha, Oct. 2014**

> Very professional and accommodation. I have had wonderful experience with David. Did two project with him. One a full home architecture plan, another initial planning work. A truthful, pleasant and surly artistic person. I will recommend.

**★★★★★ — lmink, March 2014**

> David has worked with us on two projects in central Austin. These houses, both built in the 1950s, needed an experienced talent who could take the limitations of the existing layouts and update them for how families live today. He listens extremely well while bringing vision and creativity to make our ideas even better or suggest ideas we never would have thought of. He is also a genuine pleasure to work with.

**★★★★ — mvitek, Feb. 2014**

> Mr. Manning helped design my kitchen layout and cabinets for a home that I was remodeling in Central Austin. He was knowledgeable, responsive, and attentive and paid special attention to my requests and made my visions reality. The compliments that I receive on my kitchen are a direct reflection of David Manning Architecture's attention to detail. I am very pleased with the results.

**★★★★ — amarado, Feb. 2014**

> David Manning was our architect for both my personal residence in 2003 and office building complex in 2008. David has a unique quality of bringing warmth, progressiveness, quality, thoughtfulness and creativity all associated with his art degree background. He has excellent perspectives and thinks outside the box. He worked well with us to come up to solutions that were cost effective to his ideas. He is truly gifted in this field endeavor. One of his most critical gifting is his personal integrity and honesty which is why I have used his talents. The biggest negative I see is that he is so humble that he sells himself short. I would proudly use him again on any projects of this size.

**★★★★★ — Lawrence Construction Co., Inc., Feb. 2014**

> I have known David Manning over 10 years and have worked with him on numerous projects. Three of our joint projects have been in the Austin AIA tour. He is extremely talented and very artistic.

> David Manning is the very talented architect who helped us transform our 1980s country style home into a modern minimalist home. The project included moving many walls (including a load bearing wall), creating a new kitchen and adding a media room, bathroom, large garage and loft. David listened to ever changing ideas of our vision then created well thought out plans so we could see many options. He patiently made changes and enthusiastically made suggestions based on his years of experience. David is highly collaborative and completes plans in a timely manner. We couldn't be happier with the outcome and highly recommend David Manning.

**★★★★★ — juinel, Feb. 2014**

> David Manning was courteous, sincere, truthful, and prompt. He is very knowledgeable in his field and trustworthy in his dealings. we highly recommend him. He is talented.

**★★★★★ — michaeljchiles, Feb. 2014**

> We were blessed to work with David Manning on the design of our new home! It was important for us to capture several styles (contemporary, craftsman, rustic, industrial) and have an original home. David is a gifted architect and combines artistic and technical design beautifully. He is a true artist!

**★★★★★ — casita2, Feb. 2014**

> Every project that I have I go to David Manning Architecture. He is a brilliant architect! I appreciate that he is very respectful of the site and listens to your wishes. He is precise yet goes out of the box with outstanding design and ideas!
>
> We are hiring him again for two projects this Spring!

**★★★★★ — Bradford Gilbert, Feb. 2014**

> David Manning is a visionary architect who is sensitive to the needs of his clients but brings a fresh perspective to his designs. David blends creativity with functionality utilizing the homesite as his pallet.

We designed a mono pitch, vaulted roof in order to gain height and to shed water to the perimeter of the lot. The higher ceiling also allowed for greater light inside. Aging in place was conside…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Who makes this door?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Would like to see about getting a door like this.

A: Sure. Trinity Doors in marble Falls and ask for Leno.

**Q: What type of materials was used for the roof ?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: This roof was a standing seam metal roof.

**Q: Have client wanting that door.** *(in Photo Questions)*

Hello again. I've tried to contact you via Houzz before and also directly from your company website but have not gotten any responce. I'm still trying to locate the front door to the Lake Austin Waterfront Contemporary. I see you answered a question about the door... "it is from Trinity Door Company in Marble Falls, Teas and the salesman's name is Leno"... and I have tried to locate the company. Perhaps they are no longer in business? If they are operating, maybe you have a phone number? Maybe another source? I would appreciate any help.

A: I enjoyed our phone conversation. I hope that it goes well.

**Q: Help with Living Room!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

There are multiple issues here. The furniture is unfortunately non negotiable at this point. Navy blue wouldn't be my first choice, but it is what it is. I don't know how to arrange this living room. The french doors feel like they are awkward in taking up a wall. I'm wall hugging all the furniture and I know it, but I don't know what to do. I had a family tree wall with frames, so the tree decal needs to go. We got a new tv so it's now larger than the fire place which I also feel like looks bad. I can add other pieces of furniture but the couch and love seat pretty much have to stay. I might be able to eliminate the chair and do some sort of accent. I'm open to area rug, console tables, side tables, lamps, a new media center wall situation, plants, art, whatever could help here! It's just so awkward for me, and it's dark with all the oak. Painting is an option too. It used to be gray, but with the oak and carpet I felt like it made the room even darker yet. Maybe long flowy high curtain panels on each side of the french doors could help? I have a toddler...and a baby on the way so...we still need to be toddler friendly.

A: I am wondering about this: thin stone tile on the wall from the floor to the top of the stair on the wall with the French door...then carry it across to the fireplace wall at the same height, in order to give you some horizontal feel, maybe make it feel bigger, maybe long thin tiles...and then just outside the French doors...a low wall or two at the same height with the same tile in order to bring the outdoors in and make the room feel bigger, and above those exterior low walls some plants that just barely poke their heads above the wall in order to contrast and emphasize the horizontality with contrast in both color and texture

**Q: Looking for rug suggestions** *(in Design Dilemma)*

I think u can see a little bit of the farmhouse style but I don't want to be too 'twee' and it to look look to 'theme'-y.

A: Have you seen the rugs that look like pebbles? I saw some at Primitives in Austin, Texas

**Q: Beautiful home! Who is the window manufacturer?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Chris Brown at Exclusive Windows and Doors in Austin supplied the doors and windows...I'll ask about the window manufacturer...I apologize for the delay
