We required assistance in dealing with a very large and weakening cedar hedge which ran along the back of our property. We also had a similar problem with another cedar hedge in our front. > > Earlier discussions with gardeners proved futile as they were limited to solving the problem with new plantings. Conversely, dealing with outfits that specialize in fencing, walls and patios had no idea of planning a functional and attractive space. > > Ron immediately understood the challenge, appreciated our parameters and was delightfully pleasant and informative to talk to. So much so, we refused to let him go as we encouraged him to stay a little longer over some cake and coffee. > > We immediately knew that we could work well together and being on a budget, we decided to forego spending money on renderings, drawings and plans. We liked all of Ron’s ideas and developed complete trust in his expertise. > > We agreed to remove the cedar hedging and old fence; build the required 5”x5” timber support wall to deal with the grade of our property; and build a quality, heavy duty board and baton fence along the back garden. Once we had the estimate for this work, we decided to also remove the side fences and build new ones with lattice on the other two sides of our property. All posts were 5”x5” and instead of post caps Ron suggested an impressive 2”x8” top rail running the full perimeter of our new fence. Together with posts three feet deep into the ground and each with four bags of concrete, we know for sure this lovely structure will remain in place long after we are gone! > > The work had to be scheduled around the weather, but Ron and his crew were incredible. A few really wet days were cancelled the day before, based on the forecast, but otherwise, his crew was on site for a total of 12 days from 8am sharp and stayed still till after 6pm in order to complete the day’s scheduled work. The crew worked quickly and efficiently and the quality of the carpentry was very impressive. No short-cuts were taken on anything, the detail was incredible and the site was always cleaned up and ready for the next morning. > > We had five neighbours to deal with and in each case, we had promised them we would accommodate them as best we could. From matching some face panels to constructing temporary fencing to keep in a small dog, the crew did an amazing job of being courteous and satisfying our neighbours without in any way disrupting the work which had to be done. > > As soon as the fence was complete, drainage stones and earth were brought in to level the grade. Shrubs were moved to new areas and 21 yew trees were planted. Ron coordinated the necessary modification of our sprinkler system and the required border material and decorative stones were securely and neatly put into place around the yew hedge at the front of the house. > > The above work was phase one of the work we plan to do. With the wonderful work done by Swick’s, we look forward to replacing and extending our patio which will also entail the final landscaping of the back yard. > > It was such a pleasure working with Ron, we now also hope to tackle the whole section along our driveway at some future date. > > The greatest pleasure in dealing with Ron is his knowledge, the excellent communication with his crew and the incredible hard working, loyal and skilled crew who were genuinely dedicated and accommodating young men.
