We are trying to decide between a Wolf DF304 and a Thermador PRD304WHU. Both are 30" dual fuel ranges. We would like the range to be a 'slide-in' as possible, i.e. it should not stand out too much from the cabinets and there should be no space between the range and the cabinets for food to fall into. We don't have room for a full vent, so we are forced to use an under cabinet microwave/vent combo, we are probably going to get a Thermador MU30WSU for this purpose, would it be sufficient to vent these two ranges? Anything else we should be concerned about? Thanks a lot! A: I bought this loft 7 years ago, and it recently underwent a massive transformation. The building is adaptive reuse of a refrigerated warehouse and my unit had 18 ft ceiling and one set of windows. The upstairs was dark, with two tiny windows and a wiry staircase. I converted the upstairs to glass (it now has hotel style curtains for privacy plus a locking door), LED recessed lights (which keeps it cool). The kitchen was dark, I went to all white scheme, updated lighting to LED. Baths were updated (not gutted) with more functional and statement lighting and vanity/storage. I also put in some functional features like dual motor fan, and a chandelier, which was my splurge. If you wake up in the morning and get off the bed, you get to see the Empire State building through the glass. Kind of cool. We also demolished an old fireplace and put in an energy efficient insert in its place, but we were constrained by the location of the existing chimney, which means we have an asymmetric wall. The trouble we're having now is to decide where to place the furniture and TV. Our first instinct was to put the sofa facing the window, but now it feels like the sofa takes up a lot of space and blocks the flow into the room. Another option could be to put the sofa against the wall and get two chairs that would face the sofa, but then none of the seating would face the window or TV. Any advice on how to best make use of our space and view? Thanks!! A: I love the windows and the house and the sight line to the kitchen. So useful when you have children. If at all possible try mounting the tv above the fireplace. Use the tv alcove to store books or toys (ikea kallax). I would try to change your dining set. Ikea tobias acrylic chairs are $80 each (the 2nd set in the previous photo) are awesome. Cb2 vapor is twice as expensive and bit nicer. See through/lighter furniture will greatly help. I think changing your sofa cover to a plain color will pull everything together. It looks great. **Q: How should I update this Kitchen??** *(in Design Dilemma)* The decor is from previous owners. What should be the priority to change if we want a brighter, happier, less dated kitchen? Working on a limited budget, any tricks appreciated. I know it needs new hardware....give me a FULL vision!! A: I would recommend to first change the ceiling light fixture, so you can see true colors. Give everything a good scrub. Then LED under cabinet lights from LightKiwi (Amazon). Keep in mind, when choosing the backsplash that you will likely go to stainless (like the fridge). I actually like your kitchen. I think you might get away without painting the cabinets white, your kitchen is quite pleasing as it is. **Q: Redesign my living room** *(in Design Dilemma)* I want to redesign my living room, mainly want to change the color. My living room is decorated with brown and camel color furniture. I want to keep my furniture but would like to change the color of the sofa (including type of fabric), curtains and the wall color. What color would suit well? Please advice. A: I think right now the hollywood glam theme is a bit overpowering. The sofas are gorgeous shape... Keep them and make everything else neutral. Wall color maybe bm manchester tan or some other rich cream. Drapes sheer or a white/taupe bold chevron. Smaller contemporary rug.
