I couldn't afford new countertops so I worked with what I had. Can anyone add any help with maybe what I could do to add to the kitchen or change? Something seems to be missing. My butcher block top is on order for my island. A: The problem seems to be, as Flopsycat1 mentioned, that the backsplash give a modern feeling and the cabinets have more of a cottage look. The two seem to collide to some extent. Your backsplash is there to stay, so what we suggest is that you change the handles of the cabinet to give it a more modern look. Also, decluttering the top of the cabinets will make the kitchen look more spacious. A splash of bright color accents can always give your space a more modern feel as well. Pure quartzite is usually white to grey but the various shades of pink and red you see in the picture often occur due to varying amounts of iron oxide that interact with it during the rock's formation.
