## Community Q&A

**Q: I have a small bathroom off the master bathroom. Would shiplap work.** *(in Photo Questions)*

The bathroom is small so I don't know if it will work. What size are the planks, the type of wood? Do you use a sealant on it?

A: The siding is Southern Pine T & G. The ceiling boards are about 5" wide and the wall boards are about 8" wide. The ceiling boards and boards on three walls are original. The boards on the sink wall are new. All new material was primed and back-primed prior to installation. Original boards were sanded and primed. After installation of the new boards, all were primed again and received two finish coats of paint.

**Q: Homeowner** *(in Photo Questions)*

who is the maker of range vent/hood

A: It's custom. We designed it and had it made, thank you for asking!

**Q: What product did you use for the ship lap walls? Is it wood?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Yes, you are correct!

**Q: Paint Finish** *(in Photo Questions)*

We're just about to paint a new wall we did in shiplap (spruce). What type of paint finish would you typically use on shiplap? Flat, satin, semi-gloss?

I know we will have flat on our sheetrock walks, and we have some built-ins that are against the shiplap that will have a combo of semi-gloss and wood stain.

A: This type of decision is really a personal preference; if you're working with a designer they would be able to discuss the pros and cons associated with your particular application. If not, a paint rep would also be well versed to discuss this with you. Good luck with your project!

**Q: Nice custom cabinets, I'm in Austin and looking for a good shop** *(in Photo Questions)*

Looking for a good local shop that can build custom cabinets for our home with the same/similar style. Can you advise who did the custom work? Thanks!

A: This project has now been archived, but I can say we've always worked with the sub-contractors associated with the General Contractor that was selected for the project - we help our client to select a highly qualified GCs and that of course means they have good subs on their team.

**Q: Authentic roller shades, custom?** *(in Photo Questions)*

The look of the roller shades and sheers are simply elegant and practical. I would like to do the same in my 1880's farmhouse. Are the shades custom made or can they be affordably ordered for "40" 32x70 windows? Thanks! Your projects are all lovely!

A: Thank you! The details of this project have been archived, but here's an excerpt from the Historic Homes Tour of 2012 about the shades, and they were indeed custom made: "In keeping with the goal to restore the interiors to an appropriate turn-of-the-century appearance, cloth roller shades were installed throughout the residence. "Duplex" fabric was used, with the dark green side facing the room and the cream side facing the street. These shades have resulted in a cooler interior during the heat of the summer (Texas).
Over the roller shades, sheer curtains in a reproduction style suitable for the early 20th C. were installed. These filter light and provide daytime privacy. The curtains were fabricated by Coopers Cottage lace."
