The first floor was broken down into a series of small, dark rooms, with a drop ceiling and 5+ layers of linoleum flooring. We contracted Ernst Brothers to renovate the entire first floor which included a completely new kitchen and the addition of a first floor powder room. The job ended up being a much bigger project than we anticipated (typical for a 100 year old house that had previously undergone a series of poorly constructed renovations/additions by other owners!). Ernst brought our vision to life, brilliantly uncovering the home's original 1890s bones but with a new open layout and modern amenities while still staying true to the home's historical integrity. We now have 9.5 foot ceilings and beautiful hardwood flooring throughout the entire home… which they matched up seamlessly and without any awkward transitions to the original 100 year old wood flooring of the home. I have a brand new kitchen, powder room, plumbing, electrical, and an open floor plan.
