Lucy **Q: Bi-level renovation** *(in Photo Questions)* This home is beautiful, can you share more detail about the previous property? You mention $400k was that the all-in price (including real estate purchase)? How long did this take to complete and over how long? It's amazing? A: The price did not include the purchase price of the property. The are many factors that went into the final price. We discovered mold in the basement, the house was completely gutted, insulated, rewired, new heating system, siding and roof, and the interior walls were all relocated, along with adding the third level and vaulting the ceiling of the living room and new windows. An estimate for the remodelations is fundamental to decide the purchase. How does it work? Do you do estimates like this? We are new to the process, no clue of the usuals... Thanks so much! A: Hello, I recommend that you have a couple of builders look at the property with you. They can evaluate the structure and the condition of the electrical and heating systems and the extent of the construction needed, depending on the scope of your anticipated renovation. As an architect, I meet with clients and discuss the design options for the existing structure and potential additions or renovations. I can also evaluate the needs for a renovation but I often bring in a contractor to help with the estimates. If you need more clarification or advice, just let me know.
