Thank you A: The coping and pool deck are outdoor travertine **Q: Espalier vine** *(in Photo Questions)* Wow! I always love espalier vines, but the impact of this vine with its red flowers against the light wall is spectacular! Can you please tell me what vine you used? A: This espalier was created with pyracantha graberii which actually is in berry here and in the spring it has creamy white blooms. It's an easy plant to train and keep to form. It has no suckers or twinning habit just attach to wire with clips or ties and keep clipped tight **Q: What is the paint color on the shutters?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: I think a green or blue. Green will suite the palette of gold tone stone and blend nicely with the surroundings and have a sense of calm. If you want it to be more bold and stand out, then a blue would be a complement to the gold stone and they will both become a stronger more exciting element together. **Q: Help! Walkway and Porch Tile Crumbling** *(in Design Dilemma)* Previous home owners put horrible indoor tiles on front walkway/porch. They are now cracking in the hot sun and need to be replaced. We love the look of brick but don't know if it goes with style of house. I've attached pics of our house and brick we like. Please Please would love any advice or pics that would work for this house. Thank you!! A: Terrific yard you have. As for the front entry walk, several things jump out as unappealing including the tile. 1\. It's too narrow for your entry porch approach. Widening the walkway will create a better scale to match the width of the porch entry. Typically 4'-5' is plenty 2\. It turns at angles. Your other brick walkway with gentle radius turns would be very inviting for the front walk. 3\. Of course the tiles are awful. I would match exactly the bricks and style of the your other walkway or do a concrete center and brick border if cost is a factor. As for the porch, there are thin brick veneers for that. If you can't match exactly, just bring it as close as possible and it will look fine too. **Q: What to do with the front porch!!** *(in Design Dilemma)* We would love to have a more charming front porch. How could we expand it and partially enclose it? We would be happy to remove the larger tree in order to do this. We've thought about extending the porch under a pergola. The side yard is on the other side of the fence. We'd appreciate any feedback...we are first time homeowners. A: There's a lot of options. One would be extend the ground plane of the porch out towards the street so that its not tucked back in hiding and build it out of decking material. Then, build an open trellis type overhang attached at the edge of the roof and out towards the right so that you can get light into the space. Make the ground plane large enough so that you could have a large seating area. 9' deep is the minimum for that. The trellis doesn't have to be that deep. It can sit back in line with roof. Next, you could clad the current post and the new ones with some wood details to beef it up to make them more interesting instead of the utilitarian look it currently has. Also, it would be nice to change the approach to your landing. Remove the straight walkway and layout a new one that meanders in curves or angles. It can approach the front door at 45 degrees which will show someone your door which is more inviting. **Q: Help make this house beautiful!** *(in Design Dilemma)* What color should we paint/stain our siding? We also plan to redo the driveway. Does anyone have experience with stamped concrete? What other recommendations do you have to make this how look better? Thank you in advance... A: Your house would look beautiful if it followed the color palette of the surrounding landscape. I think the siding above the garage should be a mid range green and then build upon a craftsman style color palette. Stamped concrete should compliment the house but not draw attention to itself .
