Need some help figuring out what to replace with along with the lighting fixture? Thank you! A: We find ourselves in this situation many times. Years ago ceramics and porcelains didn't have enough interest because of the "print run pattern". Most tiles only had 3-4 different prints that the installer had to mix up so you couldn't see the pattern. Today we are lucky with technology, you can get 8-10 different print patterns in a run of tile. You can also get different sized tiles to really change things up. To stay affordable go to a tile supply store where they have actual displays showing the possibilities. Your foyer probably goes through the hall to your kitchen. You can choose a porcelain that has a earth tone and then set it in a diagonal pattern or you can go with a 3-piece pattern that has different sized tiles that lay nicely. I have included a porcelain that looks like slate in a subway design but I know that you may be able to find even a nice honed and filled travertine that is affordable. **Q: Small backsplash help** *(in Before & After)* Finally finished the kitchen after a LONG Reno but I am stuck as to the backsplash...I don't want to cover the whole wall and I am not a fan of the glass rectangular tiles that are everywhere...I was thinking of a "frame" over the cooktop but would love some suggestions as to what should go inside it or any other ideas...thanks! A: I think you are right, subway and glass are trendy now and date the home to this time period. I have done hundreds of kitchens and you can get creative with a mixture of styles. This was a design I did for a couple in Downers Grove Illinois that was reasonably prices (tile $6.sq.ft. Labor $500) for the whole counter area and we did collaborate with the homeowner to make them a custom design over their cooktop. A: Hi and sorry it took so long to get back to you. Yes, this home is in Orland Park and it is a clay tile nailed down on a triflex synthetic membrane over wood slats.The concrete used to cement down the ridge is made with Portland cement for extra strength with minimal cracking due to our freeze thaw cycles. We have done both concrete tiles and real clay but these come with some extra costs besides just the roofing materials & labor. Our architect designed the roof construction for a extra heavy load since there will be added weight calculating a snow load besides the materials. This particular home was built in 02 and we have never had to do a repair. A great alternative is the synthetic shingles. They have been reformulated to better withstand our climate without the added weight. A: I looked on the selection sheet but I can only find the catalog numbers. I will go to the supplier to see if we can decode it. These were hung in 2008 and are alabaster. thanks **Q: What is the name/model and size of the tile?** *(in Photo Questions)* A: This is a polished Crème Marfil Marble Tile sized 18x18 with Neptune brown granite diamonds and border hand cut and polished on site. We always get more tile than the measured square footage and the recommended 10% waste extra so we can hand pick pieces like we did here. This insures a more consistent seamless look. I apologize for the quality of the pictures as it was with an 35mm with bad exposure. **Q: What's the color on the walls.
