A: Agree with the 4" comments. The colors are on the darker side. For me, I would contrast the cabinets and counter.i like the stone running up the wall, but likely that's not possible. **Q: waterfall island how to match sides** *(in Remodeling)* We are doing 75” kitchen island with waterfall on both sides (see the design and inspiration photo of what we hope to achieve). I went to the stone place and was told that they could only match the lines on one side of the waterfall. The other side would not be matched (although he would try) because of the sizes the slabs. I was considering MSI Calcutta Arno. But now that I got the news of not matching the pattern on both sides, I am thinking that maybe I should get a speckled quartz with no lines. What do you think? Which one is better? Anyone had an issue with matching pattern in the waterfall counters? The island will be this “smoked cashew” maple and cabinets are white. A: Perhaps consider porcelain. This could be accomplished with it. I think thou that it is a bit trendy? Personally I would rather spend the extra $ for a solid backsplash. More bang for the buck and in my bias opinion it will be the gift that keeps on giving and is more timeless. You didn't say what cm your tops are. I assume 3 cm?? Spend the money also on a mitered edge instead of waterfall. Good luck **Q: Backsplash for Kitchen Vent Hood \*no example photos found online\*** *(in Design Dilemma)* I have my Range & Vent Hood between two windows; however, the part that makes this unusual is that there are no upper cabinets on this wall as well as no side walls after the cabinetry to make a stopping point. I am seeking advice as to where I should stop the backsplash. Option 1: Use the same stone as my countertop & stop the backsplash at the bottom of the range hood. Then carry the backsplash along beneath the windows and stop at the edge of each side of the base cabinets Option 2: Use the same stone as my countertop & stop the backsplash at the ceiling. Then carry the backsplash along the ceiling to the edge of the cabinets, down, and beneath the windows. Though I am afraid this may look funky/odd. See photos attached showing where I am at with the job. Open to other ideas, even if it involves some work such as furring down the ceiling, etc. A: You have yourself a nice Lil design conundrum. Not having a precise ending on either side to butt up to makes it a head scratcher. One consideration I would entertain is doing a waterfall edge on either end of the run of cabinets. And the solid backsplash ending "inline" with that ending above the counter and not going higher than the bottom of the windows. Except under the hood, go up to the hood. I might consider a 3.5 inch shelf running at a 90 on top of the solid splash and including the window will. To me this would look very finished off and a polished look. My only gear is , it "might be a bit busy, but I think finished and professional would better describe it rather than busy **Q: I think I made a mistake. Grey couch with knotty pine? Floor ideas.** *(in Home Decorating)* Hello! I am stuck. I have a knotty pine cottage and a grey textured couch on order. I am thinking I made a wrong decision on the grey couch and looking for ways to save the look. Grey was picked for pet/ dirt friendly colour and the sale price. I don’t want to paint the pine. Any ideas for how to pull the room together? Excuse the current furniture- it was there when I moved in. I have to decide on new floors as we are repairing some water damage. I am thinking light so it doesn’t look like a dark hole. A: Lisedv has a good point. The right rug and throws will go a long way. **Q: Honed Marble basketweave as a kitchen backsplash?** *(in Design Dilemma)* I love the pattern on this honed marble (white Carrara) basketweave as a possible kitchen backsplash, but does it look like it’s better suited as a bathroom floor tile? Does it look odd on the wall? I’d have it run across the entire wall (about 14ft), 16” up from the counter where the sink wall is, entire oven area, and 16” up and across to the right of the oven to the end. My other option would be to have a full marble slab running across the wall, but cost might be a concern (though I am going to get some quotes later this week to see if possible). A: Slab would be my first choice. Tile 2nd. Either way I would go to the ceiling not just 18".. But...if that's a outside wall.. I would add windows instead(less than the cost of slabs) and then tile around **Q: front yard landscape ideas** *(in Landscape Design)* Can anyone give me some inspiration on what plants to put in front yard and path leading to door. A: Two other points first...is irrigation in? If so..the sod needs a hand. Personally I would put in clover. Softens the look of a small space.
