I subsequently hired him to construct a 6 foot block retaining wall after interviewing at least 4 other contractors. I was highly impressed with his technical knowledge and experience, including the time he spent carefully taking measurements, assessing my situation and proposing a number of options. Then I was further impressed with his bid which I expected to be higher based on all this, but which, in fact was lower than the others. I should mention that 2 of these contractors later dropped out of the bidding process, claiming that the job was too demanding! The result was beyond my expectations. The wall is perfectly straight and level, he finished the job within the time frame of his bid, all materials were of top quality and no shortcuts were taken. I know this because I have built 3 homes in the past. He also left the site completely free of construction debris as if he was never there. You cannot go wrong hiring Octagon Pavers. They helped us with a new ~600 s.f. paver patio installation. We first met with Grahame and he took some measurements and showed us sample pavers for patterns and color selection. Next, he prepared and sent us a bid and proposal which was very fair. We agreed to a scope of work and price and his crew got started the following week. First, they demolished the existing cracked concrete patio, which took 2-3 days. Next, they excavated out a few inches of the underlying soil, and they hauled everything to the dump. After the area was prepared, they installed baserock and compacted it. Next came the bedding sand layer and the installation of the pavers themselves. The installation was finalized with polymer sand to fill cracks and keep out debris. Once the sand was in, they compacted everything a second time and then hosed it down to "set" the polymer sand. It all went surprisingly quickly and they were done with the project in another 2 days. The wall cap is Smoke, I cant recall the wall color, although if you go to PBS in Sunnyvale, you'll find it **Q: what color did you use for the bullnose pieces?** *(in Photo Questions)* according to Calstone, they don't make a Sierra Granite bullnose, so they must be a different color yet they match perfectly.
