They are very beautiful, but being over a hundred years old and printed on rice paper, they are also very fragile. And the inks used to make them are highly fugitive and extraordinarily sensitive to UV light. Getting them framed properly to both showcase their beauty but to also protect them for decades to come was very important to us. Out of all the options available in Los Angeles, we chose Striving Artists in Chatsworth to do the job. > > Working closely with the owner, Boris Smorodinsky, we came up with a plan. To maximize the beauty of the prints, we opted for a simple black frame, with linen wrapped matting. Again, working with Boris, we chose low-key color combinations in the matting that not only echoed the colors in the prints, but also popped them, expanded the apparent size of the prints, and yet allowed the six prints to feel like they were part of an integrated whole. By using museum grade mats and acid free linen wrapping, we were able to guarantee the viability of the 100 year old rice paper used for another hundred years. And by using Optium Museum Acylic, as suggested by Boris, with its ability to effectively block up to 99% of harmful indoor and outdoor UV light, we were able to guarantee the viability of the fugitive inks used in making the prints for decades into the future as well. The Optium glass also offers less than 1% reflection and 97% light transmission. The end result is simply stunning. I just want it to put cute litte quotes/sayings on it but DON'T want it to exactly be the main attraction. I want the attention to be focused on the cutout wall and we are going to put a family canvas in the cutout wall which we want as the focal point. I almost feel that the larger one is almost "competing" with the cutout in the wall and that is not what I want. Opinions needed!
