We started the build from Iowa, while we were part time then it was finished while we were full time in Utah. From the minute we met Shane Harr, we new it was a true family business and the experience proved to be so. Jason Harr, Shane's brother was our supervisor and even though I am very glad the build is done, I miss seeing him all the time. We were under budget and all the financials were documented meticulously. They know their subs well and have good relationships with them. Most of all, when Shane and Jason Harr, handed the keys over to us, they said, "now add a family, and make it a home". They promised us a home built in 7-8 months for $X and it took 18 months and way over budget. Actually, it's still not done! They promised us a beautiful home and that the process would go so well that they would to be invited to the BBQ at the end of the build. We left our first meeting with feeling great about them as a builder, but it was all a lie. They signed a contract with us that is very vague and give allowances for most items rather than real bids from subcontractors. Then, you end up going over budget on each of those line items and they give you a change order. We had to come up with over $120,000 EXTRA to get the house built how we expected in the first place. > > There are so many good builders in Park City, why go with a crooked one? Allow us to explain: > > When the owner supplied us with building plans they were incomplete and lacked the appropriate structural engineering. Once revised, it required additional framing material and labor. The revisions added to the cost and took more time. When an owner acknowledges these changes he should understand these costs – not refuse to pay them. > > When the owner changes his mind and adds over 60 upgrades to the original agreement, he again should realize that would inflate the cost of the home, and he should be honest and agree to pay them per his request. > > When the owner requires we order windows from Europe, he should realize that will add time for delivery and delay completion of the home. Waiting on the window delivery caused delays on other facets of the home that couldn’t proceed without the windows being installed. > > When the owner refuses to pay multiple monthly invoices, it left us no other choice than to stop work on the home. > > We value transparency when we build. We are open and up front with our costs and expect our clients to be the same with us.
