> I loved working with Grand Finale. Nancy was very professional, patient and personable. She took her time to get to know my likes and dislikes. She was very patient in helping me determine which direction u wanted to go. She is very knowledgeable and talented. She completely transformed my space and made me fall in love with it. I would most definitely recommend her to anyone needing help with decorating. She's the best.

**Comment from Grand Finale Design:**

> Nancy was so great to work with. I loved the way she was able to breathe new life into our home often times using what we already had. She has a great ability to listen to our desires while giving us a fresh perspective. Nancy effortlessly created a color scheme for us based on our style and made what we had considered an overwhelming task actually fun. She has a great understanding of traditional and modern trends. We love how everything came together! I highly recommend her for your big and small projects!

## Community Q&A

**Q: I’ve rearranged my LR to make it less formal** *(in Design Dilemma)*

My husband and sister both hate it— my neighbor loves it— and I’m in the middle. Thoughts?

A: I agree with Beverly. I have the same questions. Need to see surrounding rooms before giving adequate advice. I agree with pulling leather chair back and would then center the ottoman on the rug. I would use a larger rug in that space. It will make the area appear much larger. When using 2 rugs close together, they need to coordinate. Wall color also needs to coordinate. Individually, you have great furnishings and hardwoods are beautiful! Can you post more photos of surrounding rooms?

**Q: Want to update flooring..suggestions please.** *(in Flooring)*

Installed fantasy brown granite and a tile backsplash. Now I’m looking to update my flooring to a porcelain tile that doesn’t cost a fortune. I want something simple but with some character.

A: Thanks for addt'l info BJ. My best suggestion based upon your photos is to change the wall color. It's competing and not accentuating the beautiful elements in your space. Make a sample board(or put them in a box) and take with you to flooring and paint stores. Choose flooring and color that best matches/compliments/coordinates with your other fixed elements in the room (counter, backsplash tile, and cabinets). The pros there should be able to give good advice. Keep in mind, lighting will be different in the stores from what it is in your kitchen. Also keep in mind that lighting changes throughout the day and wall color will appear to change as the lighting changes. All this being said, it's best to have someone come to your home to actually see your space and adjoining spaces to take all rooms into consideration and give their best advice. There are just so many guidelines when decorating that it's nearly impossible for us to give the best advice without having seen your home. You may want to consider hiring a decorator in your hometown. Make sure he/she comes with great recommendations and reviews. It's always helpful if you can see samples of their work before hiring them! Wish you the best!

**Q: Wall color with BM Decorators White cabinets and molding** *(in Paint)*

My new kitchen cabinets are being painted BM Decorators White and the crown molding will be the same color. Therefore, it has been suggested that the rest of the moldings in the kitchen (over windows) be painted the same color. And since my family room opens into the kitchen, my painter thinks the crown molding, window moldings and bookshelves in this room be painted the same BM Decorators White. i am stymied about the wall color in both rooms. i want to use a white but it needs to be one that contrasts with the molding. My kitchen backsplash will be a white textured subway tile with a row of aqua blue glass tiles. The wall behind the cooktop will be these blue tiles. Any suggestions? My husband doesnt want a gray but I may be able to sneak it in if it is not too dark.

A: Color Choice can be complicated. Depends on fixed furnishings such as flooring, counter tops, cabinetry, and tile. All white typically works best in a space with lots of natural light. Can you post pictures of your kitchen? Difficult to give the best advice without them.

**Q: How to spruce up bare walls in this TINY rental bedroom?** *(in Smaller Homes)*

Just moved into a sublet and a) it's tiny and b) the walls are so white and so bare. I can't really hang anything other than with command hooks. I wanted to keep it light and airy because of it's size, but there's too much white space. under the three pictures I was thinking of adding some small shelves with decoration, and next to the cloeset narrow bookshelf with different colored books.

A: A bookshelf with colorful accessories, colorful bedding and colorful art. Add a floor lamp or small lamps to the bookshelf for added light. You could also use command hooks, add a light weight curtain rod and colorful sheers to the window. Be sure they drape to the side of each window as your light is valuable!

**Q: Mismatched appliances, yes or no?** *(in Appliances)*

I'm in the process of remodeling my kitchen (the house will be a rental). I'm debating about purchasing a white refrigerator to match the white microwave and stove, although all the appliances work perfectly. The white appliances are on the opposite wall of the refrigerator and it doesn't look bad to me, but I don't want to alienate potential renters. Please advise - thanks!

A: Keep the frig!

**Q: Please help me breathe life into an old bedroom** *(in Home Decorating)*

Hi everyone! I really really want new furniture, but it's just not in the cards right now.
Any ideas on how to make this space look more modern? I'd also love advice on what to put above the bed and the bedside tables. Was thinking of putting reclaimed wood on the wall behind the bed, but am worried it will clash with the headboard. Thank you!!
Here is the link to my fav bedroom on Houzz...https://www.houzz.com/r/79a16d133e22f6a674f88194b325094e/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuaG91enouY29tL3Bob3RvLzI5MTA1ODQtc291dGgtY29vZ2VlLWhvdXNlLWNvbnRlbXBvcmFyeS1iZWRyb29tLXN5ZG5leQ/MTQ0YjNl/e/v1/nlc/share.link/u/j\_PgE4RlynC22aRIT5jAz5TArU\_IXvqKeJuFr7vqIk6ia0DQChetm7xKd9l4mTq89\_D5k97uRTUb7EPKdz06RW23BJWOIvfmDDzVKVQPwj0

A: Can you remove your headboard? Paint your night stands white. Add reclaimed wood but be sure to stain some of the boards darker if you're going to keep dark headboard and footboard. To get the look of your fav Houzz bedroom, you need a platform bed. Remove everything from nightstands. It's do-able!
