Matt was the project manager and designer for the project. We had a small (925 sq ft) 1920’s bungalow that we wanted to increase in size. Matt designed a project that would double the size of the home. We added a family room downstairs and a master bedroom, full bathroom, and walk-in closet upstairs. We also slightly enlarged the downstairs bedroom. > > We only gave Matt some general ideas and “must-haves”: increase the size of the house and keep the 1920’s character of the home. We wanted the design to make it look like “one house” not an old part and a new part. Matt took our general ideas and drew up some excellent, creative plans. We were kept informed throughout the entire process. When the estimated costs exceeded our bottom line limit, he reworked the plans to stay within budget but also kept the primary design in tact. We were very impressed with Matt’s willingness to listen, his keen attention to detail, and his emphasis on getting everything perfect. He was always open to our suggestions, and clearly and professionally explained why something wouldn’t work if we were “off base” with what we asked for. > > Some of the creative design ideas that Matt suggested were the creation of a “reading nook” in one corner of the family room where extra structural supports were needed. This turned “dead space” into a comfortable, favorite resting spot with built-in bench seating. He also designed unique diamond windows in the master bedroom, a creative sitting spot half-way up the new stairway, skylights in the new bathroom and walk-in closet, and a creative design to enlarge the downstairs bedroom while still saving half of the existing utility room by stacking our washer & dryer to save space. > > I would not hesitate to have Matt work on other home projects. It was a lovely 3-storie craftsman home, we wanted to leave the basement unfinished. The house plans had a basement full of vertical support beames to hold the weight of the home. I was wanting an open-concept basement, because I was unsure how I wanted the space to look when we did finish it. I knew the beams would creat limits. Matt was able to replace nearly all of the vertical beams with 1-very large horizontal support beam in the ceiling of the basement, & another vertical support beam on the main floor.
