And now that problems arise we are experiencing a total lack of concern or ownership of faulty design issues. Don't count on a warranty! I am quite sure this designer doesn't have any formal education in design work and so it is my personal opinion that any work done should be kept on the level of "what is pretty" because purely on that level she does have a good eye. Make very sure you understand some of the more complex requirements of the designs such as floor rigidity requirements for over sized tiles...just one example of the many we experienced because at the end of the day you will hear "You approved it." Or worse. Like that is not what you are paying her to know. It would also be a good idea to closely review lawsuits. While it is always my goal to meet or exceed my client's expectations, I understand that this can not always be possible. In the case of your cracked floor tiles, it was unfortunate that the concern was not brought directly to me, but rather through a 2-10 Warranty complaint about a month ago. Upon receiving a copy of the complaint from a 2-10 Warranty rep, I promptly followed up on your concern that the framing may be the source of the issue. I immediately hired a structural engineer to who visited your home and found that the structure was built as designed. I then contacted the local supplier of the tiles and obtained contact info for the tile manufacturer's rep. This rep was eager to stop by your home and contacted you to arrange a visit while he was in-town from the Seattle area. He was unfortunately told by your husband that you were both too busy to accommodate his request. I then requested that this rep investigate whether there were any framing specs that I was unaware of and that are not readily available on their website or packaging. He did this and found that there where no specific framing instructions or requirements for increased framing to install the tile. The tile rep then quickly agreed to submit a claim to the manufacturer for possible product defect. This complaint is so new that we have yet to hear back from the tile company on this claim. The manufacturer, supplier, installer nor myself have ever experienced cracked "wood tiles" with standard framing engineering. Basically we have an oak dining table, that we want to keep and my OH loves... and we've fallen for Karndean Van Gogh birch flooring... which is paler in colour, but like the texture of it as well and the finish.. It's relatively light wooden floor effect that works really well with the kitchen etc we've chosen, however I'm worried that it'll make the dining table too orange by comparison... I know the obvious answer is to change the floor we choose or change the table... but can anyone think of other solutions that would help? I'm wondering about a rug under the table (although the OH doesn't think that's a practical idea for when people drop food etc. plus we're planning on getting a dog..) The other pics have snippets of the table in to get a slight idea... So any other bright ideas from you clever people? would a rug be sufficient do you think? Is it always going to bug me? (he really doesn't care... as far as he's concerned, we like the table and we like the floor... job done! LOL) A: I have 2 words! DASH & ALBERT! Their indoor/outdoor rugs will rock your world! They have some that are not so easy to clean as well so just be on your toes to get the right kind. Nothing you can buy through HOUZZ yet (hopefully they are working on that) but Wayfair and Nordstrom are great reliable sources from which to buy them. I love the high contrast black/white options, but the soft white is always a strong win too. Have fun shopping!!! **Q: Kitchen paint colour help** *(in Design Dilemma)* We finally have a finished kitchen diner but now cant decide on what colour to paint the walls. The units are a matt dove grey with a navy island and white quartz worktops with little grey flecks. The floor is now oak throughout and I've got wooden chopping boards and bits out, too. I was thinking of painting the walls a light pale grey but all.the many sample pots are just not right! They are too dull, too green or end up cream. It's a large south facing room with French doors so lots of light. I was thinking of just taking a door to my local paint shop and asking them to mix a lighter version of the grey cupboards but before I get yet more samples wanted to ask advice from those with more knowledge and a better eye for design than me! A: I would definitely go white! You've got great texture and color already with the elements you have listed for the room. Let the white be a striking backdrop for the stars of the show. From the picture you posted the cabinets look like a white-ish color. So having a bright white wall will show off the lovely grey tone of the cabinet with some much needed contrast. I recommend Sherwin Williams High Reflective White, SW7757. It is the truest of white with no tint of green, yellow or pink. Just an impressive white. :) I wish you success on your fun project! **Q: Where do we put our fridge in a kitchen redo?** *(in Polls)* To the left or to the right of the windows? Updating with white cabinets to ceiling, stainless appliances and light quartz/Cambria counters and removing microwave shelf. Please help: where to put the fridge? Right now it is pulled out to fully access but could leave it on the left at the entry to study nook and pantry (or possibly open up wall to nook area), or move it to the right side of window with a counter depth fridge and add oven/hot tower to the former fridge section to right of window. But then the fridge-kitchen extends into eating area. If we do that: should we extend counters/ cabinets where the china cabinet is maybe for a coffee/tea/drink area. Thanks for any ideas as we undertake this project! TRP Info: Room size 14. 7 x 20 feet Island size: 52 x76 inches Also can’t put fridge on microwave wall without relocating island and redoing floors. A: I would opt to get the fridge out of the doorway and away form the sink/window/dishwasher wall. There's a lot going on over there. I would opt for far left of the microwave. **Q: Need help tying couch and media console together** *(in Design Dilemma)* I have a light grey couch and a wooden dark brown and black media stand. I still need a rug and a coffee table but am having trouble tying the two together. I want the space to be light as I live in a loft like space. Help! A: I agree with groveraxle. We need to see the space they are intended for so we can take into account the lighing and surrounding colors of the space. **Q: corbels or no corbels?** *(in Polls)* Thinking about adding some Mediterranean flare by adding exterior corbels to the roof lining. I drew up a (low quality) mock-up; what do you think — corbels or no corbels? A: I'm actually for the corbels, but only on the garage. Add shutters to the stacked windows and paint your fascia and soffits a deeper color so they pop from the brick. **Q: Black Walls ... We Need to Know!** *(in Polls)* Black walls are not the most common choice for interiors, but we want to know how you feel about them! A: I love black walls, especially when walls are paneled.
