> When we were evaluating design professionals and kitchen remodel contractors it was mentioned that the remodel process often produces difficult working relationships. This made us a bit nervous, but after working with Drue Hartwell we can say that we finished our project with smiles and satisfaction. Drue took care of us from start to finish and was attentive in every aspect. She is a great listener and genuinely cared about the outcome.
>
> We noticed that the remodeling community is small and when speaking with other professionals they often referred back to Drue as the expert. If there was a problem or issue, Drue took steps to correct it or knew someone who could. It made our project ten times easier and gave us confidence in our massive kitchen rebuild.
>
> We are DYI home owners. We really appreciated her design insights and attention to detail for our custom cabinetry. She gave us time and space as we prepared the kitchen space and was always responsive when we needed her expertise. She helped us keep within our $70k budget and bent over backwards to ensure that she met our project deadlines. As a result, we have contemporary cabinetry designed to our needs and we saved enough to purchase higher-end appliances. Drue met us every step of the way.
>
> Our project nearly completed without too much trouble. Drue worked through all the details with us and stepped up when we needed additional door hinges, ordering under cabinet lighting, framing expertise, and reviewing appliance specs with our custom cabinetry for a smooth installation.
>
> We are extremely happy to have had Drue on our project and couldn't have done it without her. She is an invaluable resource to any kitchen remodel and lovely person to work with. We recommend her in full confidence!

**Comment from Drue Hartwell:**

> Thank you so much Elena & Ananda. Having you as clients made the job that much easier for me. I love when clients push me to help create spaces that are beyond the norm and to fit THEIR lifestyle and you did that!!!

> We like to thank Drue for helping us design our bathroom and kitchen. She has a great creative vision with a practical sense. She incorporated our idea/vision and took it to the next level.

**Comment from Drue Hartwell:**

> Thank you Scott and Sung Hye, you were a delight to work with and I love the final selections for your kitchen and bath. I've mentioned before, that in my 33+ years in the business, your kitchen was the hardest one I've done considering the dimensions and what we needed to fit along the fridge wall. But it worked!!!!

> Drue designed our kitchen, master bath, guest bath, laundry room and facilitated our choice of built in cabinets on either side of the fireplace. She spent many hours going over choices with us and with her help, we picked great cabinets, tile, fixtures, etc. Everything turned out beautiful.

**★★★★★ — Bill Van Burger, Feb. 2017**

> I was a cabinet and furniture maker in Florida when I meet Dru and we worked together on several custom kitchen jobs for several years. I would not hesitate to recommend Dru . Dru is very talented in her cabinet designs and her skill at getting the job done smoothly and on time.

**Comment from Drue Hartwell:**

> I wish we had photo's of our jobs. The Sullivans hand stained blue and green with the free from wood top was way ahead of it's time. We did beautiful work together. Lloyds also. I often talk about that job...........and the 3 story bird/animal 'sanctuary'!!!!

**★★★★★ — User, March 2016**

> We hired Drue to assist us with our recent kitchen remodel.
>
> Not only is Drue very knowledgeable about building details but she had great ideas on the layout of our kitchen. She made some suggestions that truly saved our kitchen in terms of functionality.
>
> Drue is a warm and engaging person; very easy to communicate and deal with.
>
> We highly recommend her!

 - Description: This client had professional show dogs and needed to create a space to wash and brush her dogs for shows. We took part of her garage and made this small, but efficient work area for that task. The tiles for the 'shower' were handmade by a local artist. There are stairs underneath the bath for the dogs to walk up as one of her dogs is rather large and heavy. The mirror is located in the brushing area so that she can see that side as she is grooming the dogs.

 - Description: An older home on Market was added on to create a large family room and space upstairs. Behind the table and chairs you can see the original rock wall foundation. The clients were a young couple who wanted a fun, bright kitchen and RED!!! This was a great project because the space was small with odd angles and we were able to use every inch to give them all the details they desired.

## Community Q&A

**Q: What material and name of countertop is this?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: It is called Azul Aran. Very beautiful, but you should also know that it is a softer stone. Has fissures thru it. That being said however, this countertop is close to 18 years old and as beautiful as the day it was put in

**Q: Did you build this and attach the rails or was it prefab?** *(in Photo Questions)*

I have a narrow space in a laundry / bathroom and love this picture because it is not a reach through pull out as so many I see are. I'd like to get someone local to build this for me

A: I'm sorry, I was not notified there was a question here. Yes, this was built by a local cabinetmaker. I can help you get this finished if you do not have a connection with anyone. 206.388.3763 is my showroom number.

**Q: Wet bar backsplash?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is it hand painted tiles? Where from?

A: What finish is the hardware on the door? Is it the same as the cabinets? Antique pewter or ????

**Q: Nnancypantss** *(in Photo Questions)*

Which Koehler sink is this please?

A: that looks like the Kohler Whitehaven

**Q: Can you tell me how does this window open? What size window is this?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: looks like a casement window and cranks open, hinged on the side.

**Q: Window Egress.. 2nd story ..height from floor to window sill** *(in Building a Home)*

For a two story house I was wondering what is the minimum height from the floor for the window sill bottom?
This is for a house in Los Angeles City.
Also do windows need to be tempered?
Third, what is the egress window opening amount in square feet per room? I have read 5.7 sqft, but is it the same for the SECOND STORY?

A: you are off. Minimum floor to window, for egress, is 44". You are quoting minimum window height.
