We live in a 1950s Midcentury modern home, and Pamela's design managed to both honor the Midcentury design and color scheme of the original kitchen while bringing forward it into the 21st Century. Some of the most clever touches are little nods to modernism of the 60s and 70s, which help bridge the time span. But the most surprising improvement was her use of the space -- as a former chef (!) Pamela designed the kitchen to not just look amazing, but to be far more functional and intuitive than the old kitchen. We also found her to be practical-minded -- she put the money where it counted and was economical where it made sense, so we got the best bang for our buck. We spoke to 3 different contractors before meeting Pamela. Our 3rd contractor recommended Pamela. The first 2 contractors were suggesting all sorts of expensive changes to our kitchen that were unnecessary and didn't fit with our vision. Pamela totally understood what we were looking for - to update the kitchen in a way that would make the kitchen look like it could be the original 1936 kitchen kept in amazing condition. We kept the cute little oven nook that other contractors wanted to demolish, we kept our original ceiling and installed period-appropriate lights instead of now-fashionable recessed lighting, etc. One of my favorite items is not 1936-appropriate but so much fun - a Kohler Stages sink. Our kitchen fits the period of the house but is more beautiful than ever and incredibly functional - I think we doubled our counter space without reducing our usable storage space and the whole thing feels better lit and more spacious. Through it all Pamela was a delight to work with. Would it match with a velvet butterfly granite? Thank you. A: Understood. As I said, I have never seen that stone, so I don't know. You could easily get a paint chip and then compare it to the granite. **Q: backsplash** *(in Photo Questions)* I love this tile! Could you tell me where it was purchased from or what the name is? A: Thank you. That was my very own kitchen (we sold the house) so I love it too. The backsplash if by Sonoma Tilemakers in California. It is in their Stellar series of ceramics. That pattern is called Delancey. It comes in tons of colors. **Q: love the kitchen backsplash. can you please tell me the name of it?** *(in Photo Questions)* Backsplash A: Yes, of course, the color name is Damask **Q: Love the cabinets** *(in Photo Questions)* What is the species of wood and the stain color? A: The cabinet wood species is a Mahogany veneer. The stain is custom. It was developed to coordinate with existing millwork in the client's home. **Q: Beautiful kitchen! Can I ask what the floor tile is?** *(in Photo Questions)* Much appreciated. A: It is a Terrazzo look tile. It's been a few years so I don't have the exact tile nor would it likely still be available, however, there are terrazzo look tiles out there a plenty. Consult your Designer or local tile showroom. **Q: Cabinet Manufacturer?** *(in Photo Questions)* Hi Pamela - I love those cabinets and was wondering who the manufacturer is? Thanks! A: The cabinets were a custom build by a local cabinet maker. However, we almost did this project with Crystal Cabinets.
