> I was introduced to Rick and Dawn (Floorwerks) through a neighbor who utilized their company for new flooring.  I met with Rick and he provided some wonderful options for laminate flooring for my home.  He worked with me until a decision was reached on which flooring choice would be best for my household with included 3 dogs.  The laminate flooring was installed throughout the entire home. ## Community Q&A

**Q: Exposed treads...also done with engineered walnut flooring?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Is it possible to have exposed treads with engineered wood flooring?  Or are the treads hardwood, stained to match the floors?  Thanks!

A: Hi Dave, these stairs are 3/4" walnut with a expresso stain, not engineered.  However your idea would work if you used engineered hard wood,. the inverted cove would cover the edge, but why? Engineered wood is more expensive than solid, so you are not saving the client anything and making the job harder to complete.

The  "edge" or the inverted cove, as we refer to it, is  hand sanded and stained on sight.

**Q: what is the color/type of tile on the floor by the tub/sink  ?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Looks like a 12 x 12 high polished Carreras marble.

**Q: Need help in changing color with mahogany floors** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We have 3/4" solid mahogany floors that are finished with a red stain and a glossy finish. We would like to change them to more of a distressed gray tan finish (eliminate the red as much as possible) with a matte finish. Is this possible without changing the floors?

A: Absolutely, mahogany has natural red undertones and depending on how the floor has aged since the original install, will be your two defining factors when refinishing them.   I reccomend using a small "mom & pop" company in your town  They charge a bit more, than some guy on a truck, but they will provide you with the service and quality needed on your project. Hi, could you please tell me where can I get the FP surround from?

A: Sorry, haven't had a lot free time to respond.  Side walls of fireplace are 2/14" hardwood flooring.  Fireplace tiles are a Metairie porcelain.  Available through many different distributors.  I prefer, "happy Floors" or Porcelainosa out of Spain.  Key to the design is Arge format tiles.  Any further questions please felecia fre to contact FloorWerks 847-222-0020
