Great company to do business with! > The attention to detail is world class. **★★★★★ — HU-724789, Dec. 2022** > Bought a 36” Hood and was a little intimidated about doing it myself but after lots of research and watching their instructional video I felt confident I could install it. The people at OWStoneworks were great too, answering any questions I had. It came in a crate well packaged with no broken pieces. In my application I put two 2x12’s stacked together in the wall and mounted the hood to these. The 1/2” all thread might not be perfectly straight coming out of the corbel’s and side headers so you will need to make the holes bigger to help get everything level. This is ok bc you can fill the void with 5 min epoxy after fastening to the wall. I got a three pack of real long big drill bits of various sizes at harbor freight which worked out well. I also had to put a rat tail file on the end of drill to ream out the holes a little more to get the stone pieces level. This was the hardest part of the project but easy done with some patience and care. You will need to be careful taking the stone pieces on and off when test fitting bc you can chip the edges if not careful. When fastening the pieces together I used steel brackets at menards and plastic wall anchors in the stone which worked out great. Just make sure you use the correct screws for the right size plastic anchor. If you use too big a screw you could crack the stone. Make sure you see how the header will fit the side pieces before installation. I gave myself some wiggle room so when I got it up I could move it to get it where I wanted it. It took four men to hold the header up in place while I fastened it to the side pieces with steel brackets and plastic anchors. Also when done putting together make sure you fill all the gaps from the back with Bondoglass or construction adhesive so that when you grout the grout has something to go against. Take care when using bondoglass you don’t want to get this anywhere where it will be seen. Make sure it’s not on your hands when handling the stone pieces. Fill the gap between the wall and stone also or you will have a hard time getting the grout to stay put. Overall I think any DIYer can do this project with great results and love the outcome. A: You have many options with your application. YOu could cover the existing wall with sheetrock and then place the cast stone fireplace on top as we did in this example. HELP!** *(in Design Dilemma)* We are going through a house renovation and unfortunately our fireplace, due to code clearance, had to be brought in 18" into our living room/great room (our kitchen now is open to the living room and faces this fireplace. They did not make the fireplace wall large enough and we bought the mantel 60" that they told us to buy. We were going for this look: The TV inset with a white frame around it on top and then stone surround with two "legs" of the mantel on each side. Since the wall jutted out, I was going to have the mdf "leg" wrap around the side of the wall to make the mantel surround legs look thicker and the wall seem less intrusive into the room. I hope this makes sense. Now as you can see from the attached photos, the mantel bottom is smaller than the wall so if I put legs, there would not be any room for the stone. I want to use the stone. So should I put stone all below and just frame in white on each side and then do the frame above for the TV? Or try to connect the legs and make the mantel bigger somehow. Just so confused on what to do. The leg posts were going to match the posts we have in the dining room (just left of this pic) and the newel on the staircase. So disappointed. Any ideas? Firstly, there are no code restraints. Although if you wanted to expose some of that beautiful interior stone in your photos then you still could. The point being that you have options with a stone surround. We offer many designs with many depths. The deeper designs will help deflect the heat from your firebox. The less deep designs will not deflect the heat as much. That makes sense! Below is an example of a small wall space with a stone surround. You could opt to not include the interior fillers and expose your own interior stone. Above is another example of the rear wall being bumped out into the space. We could also create some custom returns that would cover the lower bump out area. Below is an example of a wall bumped out into the space of the room in which custom returns were added. **Q: Beside fireplace** *(in Photo Questions)* Are those windows beside the fireplace? A: Old World Stoneworks supplied the fireplace surround, we're not sure if those are decorative panels or working doors.
