One thing I appreciated about Mr. Hebert was that he was patient and provided very reasonable guidance as my wife and I tried to figure out what we wanted. His preference is to work with higher end products as well and we elected to find our own way through the world of plumbing fixtures, tile, hardwood flooring and a few other choices in lieu of hiring a designer, with help when we needed it, which was often. This was a complicated project on a house in a historic district, with plans that needed to go through a historic commission. Not the least of the nice things was that the exterior matching went well, I thought. This project also involved extending the foundation, new construction from the ground up of one room and some fairly complicated heating and plumbing work based on what was there before. A new bathroom was created based on the previous one, which he had designed for the previous owners. We have no basement for complicated reasons and shrinking the hot water heater to about one tenth the size made a huge difference in creating new indoor space. Happily, everything works and the new construction is much more energy efficient than what preceded it. In general, I found that Tim was well known to the vendors we needed to get things from and it seemed to go smoothly. The one thing that bothered us was that that pace of interior worked slowed down a lot after the exterior work was done. Things happened pretty much according to schedule, but there were gaps between when subcontractors showed up and we struggled with this both because of the personal dislocation and plans to host family for the holidays. I do not know how common this is for this type of work -- it may very well be typical. On the other hand, I appreciated that he painted the interior twice to get the finish that he wanted. Overall, I think we got what we wanted -- an update of a historic house with a much more functional living space in the modernized area, updated heating and air conditioning and a nice update and expansion of the bathroom. Tim and his project manager were easy to work with and gave clear instructions on what we needed to do help them get the work done -- i.e. when decisions needed to be made. Very happy with it. Would note also that parts of this house have now been built in four different centuries, extending from the George Washington administration to the Barack Obama administration. With luck, for a few more. Last word: Building permits are not always easily obtained in flood zones, we learned.
