Very attentive to detail and assurring total customer satisfaction. Hard working and treats you like a best friend. Highly recommended. This recommendation from me is based on my 20 yrs of commercial construction experience involved in nearly every significant Project in Seattle in those 20 yrs. (Safeco Field, EMP, CityHall, Seattle Seawall, multiple fire stations, and city transit systems). I liked him so much that I hired him on his own to do a bathroom remodel last year and soon will hire him again to do a laundry room remodel. He is a genuinely nice and honest guy with great attention to detail, not to mention a very hard worker. He cares about getting the best price for his customer and has great relationships with most of his subs. The only problem we/he ran into was pinning his painter down, but once the painter's crew finally arrived, they did great work too. If it was an option I would have given his company 4.5 stars because of the painful nature of scheduling the painter, but only 4 stars wouldn't give Doug enough credit for the rest of his fantastic work that came off without a hitch, so I have given Doug 5 stars. We certainly ran into problems and had many changes during our huge house remodel/addition and Doug was always very willing to problem solve along with us and the final results are incredible. Martensen Construction has done for us, so obviously we were pleased with the first one! Doug has several fortes, some that are not often found in other contractors. First, he shows up when he says he will and is super professional in all of his dealings. He is a great architect/designer. With both jobs, we just had a basic idea of what we wanted to do and he picked up on our thoughts and came up with some absolutely amazing plans that we would have never thought of on our own. One of his strengths is also something that could almost be considered a weakness, too. He is a perfectionist and does not tolerate anything less than excellent work/products from his sub-contractors. Unfortunately, this led to some little delays on one project and major delays on the other.
