> We came across Heath and his company Madison Cabinets while building our house. The original cabinet maker our builder Uses limited us in our designs. Heath was amazing to work with, he customized all of the cabinets in our home to our designs and specifications. He was able to build us both traditional cabinets as well as European modern cabinets. Sky's the limit with his company. They did such a great job on the cabinets we had them custom make all our doors as well which were a range of track doors throughout the house. They also built our media consoles which are a modern long and low. They are such a pleasure to work. We get so many compliments on all of the items they built for us. The workmanship is amazing I refer to them as works of art because they are so beautiful!

## Community Q&A

**Q: First house - Need a kitchen plan of action!** *(in Design Dilemma)*

We're closing on our first house next month (yay!). It's a foreclosure that was previously owned by a bachelor with dogs who was not too concerned with home maintenance. Before moving in we will extreme deep clean, replace the flooring throughout, paint, and update the kitchen. Paint color will be SW Jogging Path (because we're getting a great deal on leftovers from a commercial project), and I'd like to put down a light colored wood-looking laminate. Because it's a ranch home, I'd like to steer the decor towards a clean mid-century vibe. I've attached a general style inspiration pic below (though my walls will be a green-gray, not white).
Where I'm feeling a bit directionless is the kitchen. The cabinet box to the left of the kitchen window is missing a door, and I'd like to take it down entirely and replace with floating open shelves. I'm debating whether to do the same with the cabinets on the other side of that window so the wall is entirely open. I'm also debating whether or not to paint the cabinets, and if so what color (white? something else?). They are solid wood and in good condition, but just look so dated. The laminate counters are in good condition and will be staying. Definitely need some updated cabinet hardware. Appliances are a little dingy but functional so will be staying. Also - we have a modest, first-home DIY kind of budget.

A: Without seeing more of the space, I think I would look at painting the cabinets.  Instead of taking down the cabinets to the upper left and right side of the window, consider just removing doors on the right side of the sink to match the left side verses open shelves.  Open shelves are a great pieces to add, if you have great storage options in other areas.  You can always change the wood shelves to glass and add in lighting inside those two cabinets.
