Founded in 1995 by Mark Tanney, TanneyDesign specializes in custom designed residences, planning, and renovation/addition projects. Mark has personal contact with the Client throughout the Design and Construction Document process, making sure that the Client's wishes are embodied in the final product.

Mark Tanney graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Architecture in 1985. His interest in Streamline Modern and Art Deco architecture immediately guided him to Miami, where he gained valuable experience in space planning and building design, construction methods, and project management.

In 1991, Mark positioned himself in the Panhandle of Florida, virtually the Birthplace of the Traditional Neighborhood Development (TND) with special places like Seaside and Rosemary Beach. Working under Tom Christ, one of the first Town Architects of Seaside, he honed his skills until it was time to take matters into his own hands in the Spring of 1995.

Ten years after leaving the hallowed halls of Ohio State, Mark was applying his talent and experience in turning his clients' dreams into reality. Whether the design challenge is a custom home, a renovation project, or neighborhood planning, he leaves his clients with a product that surpasses expectations.

**★★★★★ — Lisa Lennon, June 2020**

> Mark Tanney is a very creative professional and wonderful to work with on projects. He created several sketches and designs for us to consider as we remodeled our beach home. He was able to see ideas and options that we had not considered. He has held our hands through the design process as we make our final decisions, He has been a pleasure to work with and often flexible to meet our out of town schedules. I would certainly recommend him as a creative professional in the design space. I will add photos as we complete work with the contractor.

**Comment from TanneyDesign:**

> Thank you Lisa! I'm always happy to work on great projects with great clients!

**★ — cambria, March 2020**

> I was, and am very disappointed in the outcome. I would not ask for his expertise or services again. The outcome was costly, And I was going to have to settle for a home that was not my vision.
> Sandy Cambria

**Comment from TanneyDesign:**

> Thank you Sandy! I'm looking forward to seeing the construction! \[Edit: I’m very sorry about how this turned out. During the design process, you had nothing but great things to say about my communication with you and how I brought your ideas to fruition. As I had indicated, I am always ready to work to resolve any issues.\]

**★★★★★ — Vern Yip, July 2018**

> Mark Tanney is a consummate professional with incredible insight, knowledge, and talent. Additionally, he's got a great attitude, is punctual, and thrives on exceeding expectations. I would not hesitate to give him a high recommendation to anyone.

**Comment from TanneyDesign:**

> Thank you, Vern; the kind words are much appreciated. I'm always trying to learn new things and be better with every new Project!

**★★★★★ — Paula Dross, March 2018**

> We worked with Mark Tanney on the remodel of our outdoor living area in Rosemary Beach. His vision and design were creative, tasteful, and maximized the use of our courtyard. The end result has far exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend Mark.

**★★★★★ — Deborah Chew, March 2018**

> Mark Tanney designed an Outdoor Courtyard for our home in Florida. We asked Mark to incorporate not only a pool and outdoor fireplace but a separate dining area as well. He offered different ideas and designs which all would have worked beautifully in the space. His professional expertise and the design process all contributed to the excellent experience of working with him. The added details of steps and benches and involving different tile and decking to the area created an intimate and beautiful addition to our home. I would consider hiring Mark for any design work involving any aspect of our house , either interior or exterior.

**★★★★★ — debbyhughes, Feb. 2015**

> Mark Tanney is architect/designer that we worked with in 2014. He designed a beach home for us, complete with architectural plans. He was very accessible to us and prompt with all the renderings. He was very professional in all aspects of our interactions. Every idea and desire that we had about our new beach home, he incorporated. We enjoyed meeting with him and he has since become a good friend.
> We checked with several designers in the Santa Rosa Beach area and we selected him based on his work in the area and his reasonable price points.
> The home is currently under construction and we look forward to seeing the final product. Overall, working with Mark Tanney was an experience we would definitely recommend and repeat.

**★★★★ — brenriv, Feb. 2015**

> Mark Tanney was the architect for a remodel project on a 12 year old beach house. Mark was an excellent listener and offered good suggestions which enhanced my ideas. I was very definite about what I wanted. I worked directly with the kitchen and bath cabinet contractor, and personally picked out all of my fixtures. Mark assisted me in this process and was very responsive. The final product exceeded my expectations and I would recommend him for a remodeling project that includes kitchen, bath, outdoor living area and structural remodeling. I am not very easy to work with!

## Community Q&A

**Q: Porch Ceiling Product** *(in Photo Questions)*

Could you please share with me the product on the ceiling?

A: That is a painted pine beaded board.

**Q: are the post solid rod or tubing** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: Hi Wanda-
I designed the house...the railings are brushed aluminum tubing. Is there anything else I can help with? Thanks,

**Q: Beautiful clean lines. What are the stile and toe plate measurements ?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Looking for maximum view with swing in patio doors. This room is beautiful.

A: Those are standard Kolbe aluminum clad out-swing doors. The stiles are about 4 1/2" and the bottom rail is about 7 1/2". If you want narrower stiles/rails, you would probably need to go to an aluminum or steel frame door. One of my favorite rooms...thank you!!

**Q: What is the frame material and finish for the second story windows? Steel?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: can you share the manufacturer for the window & exterior door system?
