I contacted the franchise owner Janet Vandermeer at Budget Blinds in Kalispell/Flathead because we used Budget Blinds on our Seattle house. We scheduled an appointment and she promptly showed up. I had no idea as to what would work best and she gave me what I thought were great suggestions. > She came out on August 9th and we decided on what style and colors of shades we wanted for the entire house, bedrooms, office, living room, kitchen, and she suggested what style would look best in what room (valance/no valance, cordless/with a cord etc.) I assumed she was the expert so I listened. This was a BIG MISTAKE!! She sent me the email on August 11th with the estimate of the total cost of $3200 for the project, and I agreed to her services and paid my 75% deposit on August 14th. After I paid the deposit she emailed me again on August 16th 3 more times asking me other questions and if I wanted a valance on the windows. She also suggested it looks better without the valance on the roller shades (but they would have a “very slight gap” at the top. I took her up on the no valance option (as you will see below it is NOT a “very slight gap”, it is a HUGE gap. Also she suggested on the Roman shades to get the valance because it looks better. > She then emailed me again on August 18th asking what side the door handles were on, Well, I was already back in Washington so I took a guess at what side they were on and unfortunately I was wrong, so the cords are now on the door handle side and a pain. > She told me it would be 2 weeks for all of the rooms except the living room because it was a very large window, that one would be 3 weeks. This is a second home for us so I scheduled another plane ticket to go back at the 3 week mark so they could be installed. I emailed her on 9/1 (3 weeks after the order was placed because I was told 2 weeks for roman shades and 3 weeks for the roller shades) and she told me the blinds were not in, but the roman shades for the bedroom and office would be in on the 6th and they could install them on the 7th. We had company coming to town the afternoon to stay so that would work, she suggested we remove the old blinds off the windows and it would be quicker. My husband took the old blinds down and took them all to the dump on the morning of the 7th. The installer showed up to install the shades and the shades she suggested and ordered did not fit any of the windows except the doors. Now we had 2 bedrooms with no shades and company showing up. The installer had some paper he taped up on the windows until this could get figured out. The installer called when he was still at the house and made an appointment with Janet to come over the next morning at 9:00 am to discuss options. Instead of showing up she started texting and calling after her scheduled appointment time. On Monday September 11th I emailed her with a detailed list of my frustrations about this entire debacle, and how we were leaving and I was going to have to inconvenience a family member to let them in to install since they messed up, she emailed me back 2 days later on September 13th and said oh sorry for the frustration and that was it! My Father in law let them in to install the roller shades and the corrected bedroom shades on 9/21 (almost 6 weeks after the initial order). Well guess what the roller shade in the kitchen didn’t fit (surprise, surprise). She said it was my windows fault for being uneven at the bottom, and offered my $100 off my $3200 order. That is an insult at this point, but don’t worry it even gets worse. The new shade came in a couple weeks later and once again I had to inconvenience my father in law let the installer in, and IT DIDN’T FIT AGAIN!!! This time it was the manufacturer who sent the wrong shade, so once again it had to be reordered. We scheduled them to come back in January to install it when we were in town so we did not have to inconvenience my Father in law again. This time it fit, and the project that was supposed to take 2-3 weeks took 4 months and I was offered $100 discount for my troubles and inconvenience. What an insult. Below are pictures of what she sent to me as an example of a “slight gap” meant and below that is what an actual “slight gap” turned out to be. If I wanted these kinds of issues I would have saved myself the $1500 and measured, installed and ordered online at a discount shop!
