We did a kitchen remodel a few years ago. We move this summer and wanted to add a bar to our family room. We were told the person who did our previous bar had retired. We reached out to Dave and Mary. They were at our home twice and did a couple of Cad drawings. They acknowledged that business was slow so to help someone we had known for several years we offered them an advance to move the project forward. We had not come to an agreement on design and price and no paper quote left with us. We asked them to rework the design and give us a new quote. When we offered a $10,000 advance Mary asked if we could make it $12,000? They promised to get us a new estimate in 48 hours before they went on vacation. 14 days later still no new proposal. > We looked for another company to build us a bar out of frustration. We found the old company that had been sold. They could deliver the exact bar we wanted in the time frame we wanted for less than half the price. We immediately contacted Country Cabinets and offer them $1,000 for their preliminary work and the balance back in a refund. There was no finalized plan or signed contract. The answer was DEPOSITS ARE NOT REFUNDABLE. There was no three day right to cancel offered or left with us we were not even left a written quote for the bar. The policy was not addressed or pointed out. > They also sell countertops-which they had left a quote for three bathrooms. We found their "policy" buried in a paragraph at the bottom of the countertop quote in 4 point font. Neither of us can read this print without a magnifying glass. We have not been able to determine if that size font is legal or not but Minnesota recommends 10-12. We are both in our seventies. > To try to recoup some money and make a better outcome for both parties we decided to go forward with the countertops with a promise from Mary that we would get a refund within 10 day after job completion by check. > I must say the countertop company they represent is top shelf. They helped us get answers when we needed help and gave us white glove service. > Since the project was completed October 28th we have received no refund and I believe our e-mail has been blocked. We have also asked that the pictures of our remodel be taken off their website. It has not been done. Do installers provide warranties? A: Thank you for the question. At Country Cabinets we (fabricate and Install) laminate countertops, and we provide a 1 year warranty on our work done. We prefer the Formica and Wilsonart laminates and they provide warranty's on the product as well. Karran is the preferred company to use when doing an undermount sink with laminate. Country Cabinets has been using Karran sinks with laminate for over 10 years and has never had an issues or one call back. I would never recommend getting laminate countertops from a big box store, and the laminate is a lesser quality (that is how they get it to the price point they need) and they are not building the tops for quality, they have built the tops for quantity. Thank you. **Q: Kitchen renovation -cabinet on either side of the window or not?** *(in Design Dilemma)* Good day Everyone, I am renovating a kitchen from a bungalow built in 1968. My parents bought that bungalow brand new. Attached you find a picture of the kitchen in its glory days in 1985. My mother is on the back on that picture. According to my mother, in 1968 that kitchen was so beautiful and modern , everything she wished for and more. Back in 1968, the kitchen was built in place, made from pine board. I bought the house from my parents and I am now renovating. The second picture is the kitchen in octobre 2016 just before it was all destroyed. The third picture is now, cabinets and floor removed. I need help deciding on the cabinet layout. I am thinking not installing cabinet on the wall where the window is for a more open look. What do you think? The floor will be hard wood, the counter top black or white I have not decided yet. The cabinet under the island will be wood as well. Cabinet is white in thermoplastic. And the tile probably glass tile but only on the wall where the range hood is. A: Sophie1B - An option for the corner is to do a 45 degree cabinet. This gives you lots of space and you don't lose anything to the blind corner. Also we would recommend you paint your cabinet over thermal foil. Thermal Foil can't handle the heart, and you can't repair it. The Stove wall is 12' and the Sink Wall is 13'. This Kitchen is Maple with a Toffee colored stain. Country Cabinets has our own stain line. The kitchen is all dovetail drawer boxes, with undermount soft close slide. The doors have young dale hinges. The countertops are both laminate.
