**★ — Allison Montgomery, Feb. 2025**

> AVOID this company and its owner Wayne Denman!!
>
> We are truly disappointed in our experience with Wayne. Our basement renovation has in 3 months only reached the early drywall stage of what should be a 7-8 week project. After another month of waiting for an update we were told to finish the project ourselves.
>
> We have learned since, that Wayne has not been paying the subcontractors. Several of them left mid-job, and Wayne had workers not in the trade finish the work rather than having to pay the subcontractor. Some of the original sub contractors have informed us they will be putting a lien on our house due to non-payment (even when we have paid our bills).
>
> Wayne Denman has not reliably answered his phone or emails since the project started in September 2024. In some cases, weeks go by with no response. When he would respond, it would be a false promise that work would soon resume, and the delays were always someone else's fault. We know now that almost every promise he made was a lie.
>
> At this point, we have paid our $40,000 deposit and have received no more than $20,000 worth of work. If you remove the invoices/workers he hasn't paid, then he only did around $3000 worth of work, and left. He has been unwilling to return or reimburse any portion of our deposit.
>
> In addition to this, we are having to pay extra to fix their work. The entire project felt as though no one from Interiors with Elegance was interested in our basement renovation (apart from taking our money). We had poor communication, few suggestions for improvements, and very little oversight of subcontractors' work. Wayne subcontracted out the project management, and then in turn refused to let him spend money or hire services. We had to repeatedly ask them to install return air ducts and heat vents. We were told our body heat would be enough, and that return air wasn't necessary in all the rooms. We found out later he just didn't want to hire HVAC services, as his cheaper workers could do the rest. The bathroom was framed too wide and we were informed later that tile could not be installed as the drywall wasn't flush with the shower base. No one from IWE noticed or cared to check.
>
> No solutions Wayne has provided for us to complete the basement are reasonable.
>
> Lastly, we believe he only took on our project to use our deposit to get himself out of trouble. This is the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with, and would HIGHLY recommend you avoid them.

> Very professional and lovely to deal with. I had a complete bathroom renovation done and couldn't be happier. The team was amazing and genuinely take pride in their work. I highly recommend!

> We just had our ensuite renovated and we are thrilled with the outcome. The workmanship is outstanding. Wayne and his team are great - professional, courteous and very helpful.

> I worked with Interiors with Elegance numerous times. They renovated my Edgemont home and my Mission condo. Those were both renovations. In the Edgemont house, they added an elevator (the elevator company commended them for building such a straight shaft!) and they made the entire house wheelchair-accessible (beautiful roll-in shower, roll-under sink, they raised the sunken family room floor, installed gorgeous sapele hardwood flooring). They were professional, knowledgeable, on-time, kind, tidy (they cleaned up at the end of every day) and did what they said they would do. It was a honest pleasure working with Interiors with Elegance. I cannot recommend them more highly. Interiors with Elegance is AWESOME!

> Interiors with Elegance recently completed an upgrade to my condo kitchen and bathrooms. I am very pleased with the final result, and with the quality of customer support, workmanship and ethical methodology throughout the process. They helped with every stage, from design, to choosing materials, to the finished product. I highly recommend this company.

> Not sure what happened with this company, but they displayed a lack of knowledge and care while handling our renovations. A few years now and many issues, many imperfections. So many good reviews online yet it seems we got the short end of the stick as there is no way our job was done right. Sure my wife and I were naive and thought we would get a dream kitchen, but now I have learned so much from doing things myself and having other contractors in that WOW did we ever get ripped off. Certainly would not happen again as I know better, but they really took advantage of us. They screwed up our hardwood floor, drywall, and cabinets installation, poorly planned our countertops causing us to do it our selves, misinformed us on cabinet doors, insulation and plumbing, broke our furnace and busted water pipes flooding our electrical panel. I am concerned on stuff I did not see. My wife and I were very busy (each had jobs and a 1 year old) and never had renovation experience. We were very naive and were being very nice and polite. We paid them (but should not have and stood up). They lied to use on multiple occasions, were aggressive at times, and always had an excuse for the issues we pointed out. DO NOT USE. So many other companies to choose from. We got played, I hope no one else does.
>
> My wife and I paid over $100,000K figures for an IWE partial kitchen/main floor renovation of a 1977 built house. We had just purchased the house, had a 1-year old, and both with demanding jobs, and had zero renovation experience. We decided to go with IWE as they were very convincing (turns out the sales guy did not even work with them bust was a hired gun) that they could deliver a high-quality product in a few months. They were significantly more money that the few independent contractors we talked with, but we felt the ‘sale of piece of mind’ was worth it, we did not want a horror story renovation. Well we got one. This company is a total joke. Expensive and delivering a ‘worse than do it yourself’ quality installation. These was no transparency from them, many issues during the renovation negating the ‘hassle-free all-in-one’ service we wanted/paid for, and the final installation of drywall, floors, and cabinets just terrible (all unlevel/uneven leading to issues). We should have known something was wrong from the start. After two visits to our house and reviewing the scope of work they said they would do a high-level transformation for under $80,000 (our budget). We paid $1600 to get a complete design (should have known this was a scam). Well a design and vague contract was presented to us with a price of $120,000. Shocking, should have walked away, but we felt committed (wife wanted this renovation done) and settled on a $100,000 price with us doing several things (some demolition, painting, floors, baseboards, doors, appliances, dishwasher/sink installation and plumbing). Looking back the contract was so vague we never should have signed. NOTE TO ALL, ensure any contract is extremely detailed, down do the level of floors and type/number of outlets covers). They tried so often to not do work that we thought was included. It was such a battle every week. In the end the final product is just OK looking but riddled with imperfections. Below are a few specific details on some major issues:
>
> Design: Overall not bad. Some great points (cabinets around the sink) and some low points. The island is large and L-shaped and honestly just not right for the room. Clearly better designs, but I guess that is on us as we wanted an L-shape, but maybe a more experienced contractor would have given more options. Big sour point is the space over the oven. Originally, we wanted a microwave but IWE said that is tacky and a hood fan would be much better. We too their advice and settled on a hood fan with box. While the fan is fine, the box is one piece, crooked, and a panel instead of doors above the fan. The MW sits in the island cabinet. We have a major lack of space and thus putting the MW above the oven with cabinet above the MW (like almost all houses and what we originally suggested) would have been best. THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING and ARE NOT GOOD AT INTERIOR DESIGN. We should have better planned and hired a real interior designer.
>
> Floor: We purchased our solid hardwood from a bigbox store and got a quote to install at $3800. Owing to issues with scheduling we asked IWE if they could do the floors, they said yes and quoted $4500. We assume they would do a high-quality job and agreed to the higher price. Floors we installed on a unlevel and/or not cleared of debris subfloor. Our floors are now slated in many spots, have large bumps or depressions in many key walking areas, many large gaps between boards, many lose and flexible boards, many boards not level leading to sharp edges. Floors were installed to tight leading to bowing in the summer and significant flex. Many floorboards were installed without being inspected first thus boards with checks, defects, and small sizes are scattered about. Boards around fireplace and stairs not cut to proper length leaving an ugly/sloppy finished look. Too any finishing nails used, jig saw used to cut out furnace vents leading to rough edges, and so much more. After the fact we had our floors professionally inspected confirm wood was good and install was issue. Big regret needs to be redone in future.
>
> Drywall was not sanded to a level nor were we given any option of drywall finishing. All square with right corners. Very low-quality finish. Many areas were not drywalled correctly and are patchy/spotty. The lack of care with the dry wall did lead to big issues with the cabinet installation and baseboards.
>
> With both the floor and drywall poor quality installation, our cabinets are not level. They slant downwards east to west, have large gaps in between wall and upper cabinets. Fridge does not sit level. Runner boards on bottom not level with floor. Overall a low-quality rush job. Cabinets themselves look OK besides the lines. Boxes/shelves made of standard MDF or particle board. See no difference from big box store so not sure why so pricey, I know they are ‘custom’ but the gaps and crooked lines negate that. Big issue with the doors. We paid and signed for 5-piece wood. 4-piece wood frame with HDF panel was installed. Very disappointed and still trying to get fixed. Completely lied too and cheated! Pretty much ruins our cabinets. Especially now that the paint has minor chips on the wood, thus our boards will destress, but the panel always look new.
>
> Every chance they tried to avoid completing the job and owing up to mistakes. Our house was vacant during the renovation. They use our utilities and never paid, use our bathrooms and never cleaned. Our furnace broke and they said it was our problem. The covered up our furnace humidistat wires and left use to deal with the issue. They burst a water pipe and soaked our electrical panel. Left us to deal with it. They never cleaned up after sanding the drywall, left us to deal with it. Installed a doorbell but never changed transformer so it does not work, said we had to. Never told us ceiling insulation as not standard thus I had to rush out, buy $500 worth, and install myself day before drywall. Forced us to pay extra for plumbing corrections under a dropdown ceiling (we made it clear from the start that the dropdown was to be removed, thus one would assume they would build that into the price. Honestly there were so many issues I cannot believe we paid them looking back on the entire processes. A HUGE mistake was trust them on removal of walls, they claimed some walls could not be removed, now I question that as they were just trying to do a quick job and make extra money, and we are left wonder if a few obstructing walls could have been torn down.
>
> We did catch a huge issue with the countertops. Right before they were to be installed, I found out the island was coming in as two pieces. A quick call to a few stores revealed you could do our size in one piece. I did stand up and complain and after much back and forth they agreed to cancel the countertops BUT we then had to do it our selves. This took 4-weeks. What a total JOKE this company is. No transparency as they should have showed us how the slabs would be installed.
>
> In the end there are so many things that were bad. With all the options you have please avoid this company. You can find me online and I can share many more details. My wife and I feel just gutted now (after having the processes being digested) that we were taken advantage of and never given he dream kitchen we wanted. They got lots of cash and we got stuck living in a low-quality renovation with much disappointment.

> We had Interiors with Elegance do a renovation of our master bedroom en-suite shower and tiling. They were very professional and considerate. Always cleaned up at the end of the day. It took a little longer than what I thought it should, and the finished product looked great.

> Extremely happy with the work performed by Interiors with Elegance. Beautiful new bathroom, and it is stunning! Very nice people to work with, and they left my home clean!!

**★★★★★ — Jan and Mike Quesnel, Sept. 2018**

> Interiors With Elegance (IWE) was recommended to us by friends who have used them for multiple renovations. We had IWE do some renovations in our kitchen and a complete re-do of our master bath. From our first contact with Wayne Denman we have been very comforable with everything they do - from the initial site review, work scoping, layout and design, cost estimating, and actual work execution. Lisa was very helpful with design suggestions and material selection. Dave and the rest of the construction crew were extremely attentive to detail and the finish of the work. It was obvious they take pride in their work.
> We were out of town while much of the work was being done but we felt secure in leaving the house and work in their hands. We were kept updated with construction reports and photos on a regular basis and we were able to communicate via email and phone whenever there were any questions that needed to be dealt with. We are very pleased with result and we are currently working with IWE on another renovation.
>
> I think there are probably renovation contractors out there who could have completed the work cheaper and possibly even quicker. However, we were not in a hurry to get the work done and we were prepared to pay a small premium for quality work.

**Comment from Interiors With Elegance:**

> Thank you for such a thoughtful, positive review. You are both a pleasure to work with!

**★★★★★ — Allan McLarty, July 2017**

> We thank Interiors With Elegance for their insight in planning, helpful approach and a wonderful result. Our complete Kitchen renovation is a beautiful blend of function and elegance. More significant is that the renovation was completed with a very careful attention to detail, such that if each detail was not perfect initially it was soon remedied to make it so. The Interiors With Elegance work crews were clean, careful and a pleasure to have in our home. Special thanks to Bill, Dave and Wayne for your consideration, patience and pleasant response to our every request. For any future renovation we might have, these folks will be at the top of our list as both planners, and contractors.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Ceiling height** *(in Photo Questions)*

Very nice fireplace wall.
What's the ceiling height in this room?

A: Hello! This is a 9' ceiling.

**Q: What are the dimensions of this bathroom? Shower?** *(in Photo Questions)*

What are the dimensions of the shower?

A: Hi Samantha. Thanks so much for your interest in this bathroom! For this particular one, the dimensions of the bathroom are 13ft x 15ft, and the dimensions of the shower alone are 3ft x 4ft. If you have any more questions, please feel free to to reach out. Thanks!

**Q: Is my granite and tumbled travertine too busy???** *(in Design Dilemma)*

Please help! I am building a new home and was very undecided on the backsplash. I went back and forth b/w a white subway tile to match my antique white cabinets or tumbled travertine. I settled on the travertine but now that it's installed I'm wondering if the white tile would have been a better option. The travertine has a pinkish hue and it is the first thing my eye catches when I walk into the kitchen. I wanted the granite to be the main focal point of the kitchen. I also wonder if the travertine looks old fashioned. The subway tile may have looked more modern and allowed the granite, floor, and appliances to shine more. The only reason I went with the travertine is b/c I thought the white would be too boring and look bathroomish. The travertine does bring character. I want to love my kitchen so I'm hoping it grows on me.

A: Looks great!

**Q: Tile** *(in Photo Questions)*

Which cortona color do you think would be closest to this color tile? Love this look

A: The floor tile would probably be closest to the "white flora" in theCortona line from Daltile. Click on "cortona" to go to the website. This line is a glazed porcelain, as opposed to natural stone travertine depicted in this bathroom above. But it is a great option for cost, and durability. I also like the "Tuscan Sun" color in this line. Thank you for your questions! Wish you the best in your bathroom renovation.

**Q: Wall** *(in Photo Questions)*

What color tile and design is on the wall behind the bath tub. Both tiles please.

A: The wall tiles are also a travertine subway tile. The Cortona line at Daltile is a glazed porcelain, which would be a great alternative since it isn't porous like a natural stone like Travertine. It comes in a subway size wall tile as well, and you can just pick the same color as you use for your floor. Thank you for your questions!

**Q: What type of tile, color and pattern?** *(in Photo Questions)*

A: The tile in this picture is a 24"x24" travertine and has been discontinued. However, the Cortona line at Daltile is similar. Thank you for your questions.
