### Reviews

**★★★★★ — Zack, July 2024**

> We purchased a duplex in San Francisco that was in desperate need of repair, but offered an opportunity for a customized rebuild. We needed an architect to explore ideas and reimagine what is possible for this space.
>
> We were referred to 2M Architecture based on their expertise. From the initial consultation to the final walk through, they were a pleasure to work with. 2M and team understood our goals and budget requirements, offered suggestions and different design options that best fit our needs, were attentive to detail, were responsive and gave thorough feedback, and helped us navigate SF building code and procedures. Additionally, they worked well with our contractors to keep our project moving forward.
>
> We are delighted with the overall results, and our newly renovated unit is exactly how we imagined it. We look forward to working with them in the future to renovate our other unit, and would recommend 2M Architecture to anyone wishing to renovate their home.
>
> Big shout out to Mark, Marc and Hemant for making our dream come true!

**★★★★★ — Francies Construction Inc., Nov. 2023**

> 2M Architects are the best architects we know and have worked with. They are professional, fast, keep their word, create great plans and are excellent designers. You can't go wrong with them no matter which way you look at it. If something becomes complex on a job they are right there available using their skills to sort it out. All of their jobs come out beautifully with happy customers. I know this sounds hard to believe but I can't find a bad thing to say about them. My only fear is they retire or move away!! Thanks for all your hard work 2M, we know you've spent years building this path to where you are now are. 100% PROFESSIONAL!!

**Comment from 2M Architecture:**

> Thank you for your kind words! Our work is a collaboration and your team is a big part of that success. Here's to more happy clients and successful projects!

**★★★★★ — Perez Construction, March 2023**

> Marc, Mark, and the entire 2M Team are consummate professionals. If you are considering an architect for your project, we'd highly recommend 2M.
> We at Perez Construction have completed hundreds of remodeling projects over the years and worked with dozens of architecture firms, so we've experienced it all.
> The 2M Team is one of our favorite architects to collaborate with, first and foremost due to their client service. They listen to clients, design beautiful spaces, and set realistic expectations. Beyond their deep experience and technical skills, they are also just fun, positive people to be around. They know the importance of collaboration across the three legs of the stool - the homeowner, architect, and builder - and are committed to ensuring a delightful experience for the homeowner.
> If you are looking for an architecture firm for your project, look no further than 2M.
> -Connor Skelly - COO Perez Construction

**Comment from 2M Architecture:**

> Thank you, Team Perez, for your kind words! The path through construction is made better for our clients when you're on board. Here's to many more successful project ahead!

**★★★★★ — Kai Larson, Sept. 2019**

> 2M Architecture are true wizards!
>
> Our contractor Tapia Construction & Restoration suggested we talk to 2M after our current architect could not figure out how to create a plan that would suit our needs and our budget and was stalling out our project.
>
> Well 2M came in, spent the time to hear what my wife and I wanted to accomplish, and came back with a perfect plan. We had lived in the house for 12 years at this point, and had spent all 12 of those years asking every professional we could how to solve for a design issue. I had spent countless hours trying to come up with a solution myself. With one meeting, 2M solved our issue in the most elegant way possible, this is why they earn the title Wizard in my book.
>
> Mark and Marc are both delightful humans, and great to work with. They listen, offer suggestions and advice, and are always willing to take the time to explain things in a way I could understand.
>
> If you have a challenging design need, these are the guys for you!
>
> Thanks 2M!

> I’ve worked with Mark and Marc on a few projects now and they are always a pleasure to work with! They are extremely detailed, create beautiful homes and are invested in each step of the process. As a window dealer, it’s always great to work with them!

**★★★★★ — Wallace Remodeling, Inc., Aug. 2016**

> We are a general contractor, Wallace Remodeling, and we have worked together with 2M on a number of projects. The architects at 2M - Mark Tetrault and Marc Lindsell, are extremely competent and easy to work with. It is a piece of cake to get on the same page with them because their end goal is a happy and satisfied client. They have done various projects with us, including a super complicated modern stair addition, and a lower addition. Each project has come out exactly as the client hoped. On top of this they are easy to contact and to coordinate with on plan questions and they show up at the job site at the drop of a hat. Thank you for your excellent works and we look forward to doing more projects together!

**★★★★★ — Rich Walker, Aug. 2016**

> I have only high praise for the 2M Architecture team. Frankly, I do not know how I would have managed through our home remodeling without their help.
>
> First of all, they helped us develop plans, along with alternatives, to meet our needs and our cost requirements. Secondly, they “held our hands” through the many steps and, let’s face it, sometimes the headaches of the construction project.
>
> The skillsets of co-owners, Marc and Mark, complement each other wonderfully. Marc Lindsell had the vision for the design and was able to execute architectural plans with such precision that the San Francisco Building Department gave us immediate approval, which is quite a miracle. He would come onsite during the construction to ensure that the contractors were building infrastructure, walls, and surfaces according to the plans. Mark Tetrault provided superb guidance in the design, color choices, materials selection, and overall “look” for the various finishes. Both of the guys helped with solving issues that arose during the construction process itself, and, generally, acted as advisors (and sometimes counselors) to us as homeowners.
>
> I heartily recommend 2M Architecture for their excellent work – and for their friendly and professional manner.

**★★★★★ — Jana Magginetti Interior Design, Sept. 2015**

> I have had the pleasure of working with Mark and Marc on several large construction projects. They are a delight to work with, very professional, brimming with creative ideas, and always collaborating with the other professionals involved in the project. They work with integrity and are extremely detail oriented. When possible they will make suggestions on how to improve the design and longevity of the project by introducing Green elements to the construction. They always maintain a very professional relationship with their clients...an amazing thing to do given the stressful situation of remodeling or constructing a home! If you want a pleasurable and professional experience while remodeling or building your home I recommend you work with 2M Architecture.

**★★★★★ — Aaron Gordon Construction, Inc., Sept. 2015**

> I am a GC and I had the pleasure of working with Marc and Mark on a project in Noe Valley. From our perspective, and the most important fact, is that the homeowners were thrilled with the design and service they received working with 2M. I found that both Marc's were team players that really had the Owners goals as their top priority.

**★★★★★ — danneumann, June 2015**

> We hired 2M Architecture to help us transform our house into our dream home! And they did that and much more. Marc and Mark took the time to get to know us and really understand what we were trying to accomplish. They asked all the right questions and incorporated our "wish list" into a wonderful design for our home. But their services didn't end with our plans - they worked with our contractor, helping to oversee the project from beginning to end. During the project, when we needed some extra help with all those finishing touches (that can drive you crazy), they offered guidance and practical recommendations so we could get it done. We've been back in our new home for over a year now and we still marvel at how much we love our new home. 2M Architecture is amazing!

**★★★★★ — Tapia Construction & Restoration, April 2015**

> We have been blessed to work with 2M Architecture more than once and always look forward to new projects involving these two talented architects!
>
> Mark and Marc offer the truest of true Professional Services - both being true to their professional abilities, but also being able to excel at their mastered skills, while never forgetting the essential balance of structural integrity and supreme aesthetic appeal and finish! This dynamic duo offer the gentle yin and yang EVERY project needs but so many projects don't receive.
>
> With Mark and Marc aboard - we can count on professional transparency, clear communication, professional demeanor, timeless style, and a classy presentation of their abilities, with sensitivities to diversity in cultural architecture!
>
> There are not many Architects that define the old-school role with a twist of modern flare - but Mark and Marc have mastered achieving this beautifully!
>
> We truly don't know of a better team and hope to work with them both, whenever a project comes to the table!

**★★★★★ — kahickey, Dec. 2014**

> We wanted something different in Palo Alto. We had a small project, but wanted something more unique than recent designs I had seen. This was the firm to work with! They created a wonderful living space - addition and remodel - within an older 1949 house - to accommodate our kids turning into teens, but within the confines of our smaller budget. They came up with multiple designs and we ended up adding an additional family room and remodeling the living areas, including the kitchen. Marc and Mark not only came up with great ideas for the limited space, but helped us with design choices as well. They were great communicators and worked very well with our contractor, making sure we got what we wanted and needed. I'm very grateful for many choices that they urged me to make - which is hard because you can't predict how you will use the space (glass doors to the family room, with a unique sizing that works PERFECTLY). Their design brought more light into the house as well and combined all the spaces into a cohesive living space.

  - Description: The steep hillside lot had been developed with a single-family residence (1965), which was at the maximum area for local zoning; therefore, the only way to enlarge the residence was to add a basement. During the cost analysis process, it became clear that supporting the house while creating a basement - and then substantially remodeling the remaining structure would require far more effort and treasure than to replace the house entirely. Located just over 1 mile from the San Andreas Fault, the O…

  - Description: The project began with the owner’s vision to create on their Atherton property a new home, reminiscent of the Mediterranean villas and gardens they loved to visit on European holidays. They wanted to create an oasis, a home that would nurture their creativity and foster a feeling of calm. The design creates this sense of transition right as you enter the property, through a long, tree-lined driveway, thru a custom gate and into a gracious entry court. Walking through a formal entry garden, you a…

  - Description: This unique modern home was designed for a family accustomed to a small house in San Francisco. Sited atop a hill in California’s Gold-country, the construction materials were selected to reflect old mining structures found throughout the region. The underlying Masonic ‘ad quadratum’ geometry of interlocking squares reflects the relationship of the known to the unknowable. This geometry lends strength and proportion to the building in both plan and section. Floor to ceiling windows on the southw…

  - Description: The impetus to renovate this kitchen stemmed from multiple desires to upgrade finishes, to improve the functionality of the work areas and to improve the visual links to the rest of the home and site. Further interviews with the clients revealed that they wanted the Kitchen to be conceived as a sculpture within which they could live. By carefully separating the primary areas (clean up, cooking, eating) and also moving storage functions into a recessed niche, it became possible to improve the cir…

The homes share a similar spatial concept, materials palette and detailing that lends these homes the feeling of a small community, blending harmoniously and naturally into the hill on which they sit. The main level features the public spaces, a covered front balcony, an open rear outdoor terrace and the master bedroom wing. The openness of this simple floor plan fosters a sen…

  - Description: Time had not been kind to this 1924 Colonial Revival home. Several poorly constructed additions marred the exterior and the mechanical systems were failing. The main floor was completely remodeled, tailoring the flow of spaces to suit the Owner’s lifestyle. New bedrooms were added upstairs, tucked under the roof to minimize the visual impact on the surrounding neighborhood. New dormers were then added to enhance the interior spaces while adding symmetry of the facade. The cracked foundation was…

  - Location: San Mateo, CA

  - Description: This quirky mid century cottage began to feel small as the family grew from two to four. With the children then outgrowing their small, shared bedroom, it became apparent that the house would have to grow to preserve domestic tranquility. Since the house sat on fairly small lot, and the children still needed a yard for playing, the ground floor couldn’t expand too much. The best design solution was found in adding a new second floor that would provide the kids each a private room with a shared b…

  - Description: With a growing family, the owners of this home required more bedrooms and common areas that could accommodate more than 3 or 4 people at a time. In order to gain the needed spaces, the ground floor plan was completely re-configured. Moving the entry from the former side yard to the street front allowed the Kitchen to be moved to the rear of the home. Creating an open plan great-room at the rear of the home provides this family of 5 with enough space to gather, play and take advantage of the tree…

## Community Q&A

**Q: Can you please share the dimensions of this cabana?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Thanks

A: I believe that it is about 10' x 16'

**Q: kitchen counter** *(in Photo Questions)*

Are the counters granite?

A: Yes! Capo Lavoro and I think we sourced it from DaVinci Marble in San Carlos. Really beautiful product.

**Q: what is the countertop?** *(in Photo Questions)*

love the counter! is it granite? can you tell me the name?

A: It's a winner, isn't it? We think it looks like the surface of Jupiter seen from orbit. Capolavorro granite and I think we sourced it at DaVinci Marble in San Carlos.

**Q: Counter** *(in Photo Questions)*

Can you share the counter type and color?

A: I wish I could recall the name of the stone, but I'm fairly certain it was a granite. This project was built about 20 years ago. I seem to recall that we sourced the granite at Fox Marble here in San Francisco. Hope that helps!

**Q: Paint color?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Nice project? Any idea what exterior paint color was used?

A: Thanks for the kind words. It was a fun project and the Owner is very happy with it. Unfortunately, I don't didn't save the records of the paint colors for this project.

**Q: Fireplace** *(in Photo Questions)*

Love the fireplace design. Really unique.

A: Thanks. It was a lot of fun to design. The free-standing box is wrapped in a redwood slab which was harvested and milled from a tree on the site (which had to be removed for the new construction). The metal mantel is designed to give a gesture of 2 hands holding a tray - a gesture of welcome and hospitality!
