> I signed a contract with Nuance in July 2018 to have a pergola with a roof built over a small patio and one shelf built into a walk-in closet. The interior work was projected to take 2 days which it did…in November 2018. The exterior work was supposed to take 1-2 weeks. The exterior work started in July 2018 and here it is January 2019 and still not done. It was nearly impossible to engage them in any communication – they won’t answer phone calls or emails. The one exception is that after they did the interior work these people had the nerve to request the last install payment which would have nearly paid off the balance on the contract. I paid half of that installment since they didn’t (and I think never intended to) finish the exterior work. If you’re in the market to overpay for projects that never actually get done then these are the people for you. If you’re unfortunate to find yourself in my position then I strongly recommend you keep every communication on hand – it will be helpful if and when you take these people to court.

> My husband and I contracted with Nuance back in April 2018 for a fairly straightforward basement remodel. No new walls were needed, but we did have a build out of a bar/kitchenette, TV Fireplace built-in w/cabinets and a complete remodel of the basement bathroom. The last component was to be a large sliding barn door to cover the entry into the new basement area. It's now December 2018 and the job is still not completed; houses have been built faster than our basement remodel. While I would say Nuance does quality work, when they do it, they often don't respond to e-mails and voicemails and don't follow through on delivery dates. If we had known it was going to take 8 months and counting for our remodel from Nuance, we would never have selected them. I'm embarrassed when my family, friends and coworkers ask me about how the remodel is going and all I can say is "it's a work in continual and undetermined progress".

> Nuance completed a kitchen and dining room renovation in our Reston townhouse. They also installed new balusters and railings on our main staircase, new doors throughout the house and paint. We had high expectations going into this project and Nuance exceeded them throughout each step of the process. The team was extremely courteous and respectful of our family and space. They arrived on time and always left the work area as clean as possible. Our project manager was always available and addressed any questions or concerns we had in a timely manner. The Nuance team was fun to work with and we are looking forward to starting our next project with them.

> Nuance completed a stairwell renovation in my Reston town home shortly after I occupied it in 2015. They design-built the project, and performed the renovation quickly and professionally. I live with my two-year old son and they were able to keep a very clean job site during the occupied renovation, keeping my little guy safe and able to access our bedrooms on the upper level. Nuance priced the work very competitively and allowed me to transform my home within my allowable budget. They partner with their clients and have a personal, approachable, and can-do attitude. Since this project in 2015, I have contracted with them on two additional projects, including construction of a custom piece of furniture and a full renovation of my main floor, half bath, and kitchen. I'm so glad to have Nuance to partner with as I renovate my home.

> Nuance provided a fair market price for an extensive remodeling project in a home we recently purchased. This project included updating, reconfiguration of rooms, and architectural designing. They used very skilled workers, completing the project in a timely manner. The project manager was agreeable to changes and last minute decisions. It was a very pleasant and successful experience.

> Nuance finished our basement. They started by helping us with the design and went on to create a bedroom (including an egress window), a bathroom, and several other rooms and closets. They installed many custom cabinets, built-in bookcases, hardwood flooring and rerouted a dryer vent. They were fantastic to work with during all phases of the project -- professional, responsive, timely, and innovative. The final product is gorgeous. We are very satisfied!

> The final say in whether or not a job is well done is how well they pay attention to the super fine details. Nuance cleaned the corners of the baseboards to perfection. I didn't have a page long punch list after the work was completed. Thank you Nuance!

> Nuance is an extremely professional locally run business. We had this company design and build a screened in porch, which turned out to be a fabulous addition to our home. The staff that works for this company were professional and always available to answer questions and concerns. Like any project there were some hiccups, but all matters were addressed appropriately and taken care of. I would highly recommend this company as they are locally ran and can be trusted to make your home that home that everyone wishes they had.

> Expertise in their field! Custom is their middle name!! If you want perfection and professionalism from a company who is also fun to work with look no further...Nuance, Inc.!!!

> Nuance just completed a full remodel of our entire main floor including a brand new kitchen, new hardwood floors, door hardware, and paint. They also replaced our stair wood balusters with iron, installed new carpet in our second floor and painted throughout the rest of our home. I can't say enough about the quality of work that Nuance displayed throughout the course of this project. We are extremely happy with the results and would recommend them to friends, family or anyone else looking for the best in the business. The portfolio Nuance brings to the table speaks for itself and choosing them for such an important project was one of the best decisions we have made throughout our home process. Highly recommended!!!!!

> Nuance, Inc just finished a project for me that I could not be happier with the outcome.
> It did have an issue and the professionals at Nuance, Inc went well beyond my expectations to make it right and they did it faster than I could ever imagine.
> I have been involved in the construction industry for over 30 years and used Nuance because of their reputation for high quality work at fair prices.
> To say they exceeded my expectations would be an understatement.
> The true test of a contractor or any business is how they handle an issue. Nuance could not have done a better or fast job of resolving the issue.
> I have another project coming up soon and I won't even ask any other contractor for a price.
> These people have earned my trust and my business.

> We hired Nuance to renovate a large portion of our main level, our master bathroom, and refinish our floors. Nuance came in slightly lower than the competition in price but quoted the same amount of time to complete the work. Ultimately the schedule slipped by 2 months (not any fault of ours). In addition, we were sold on many aspects of their offering to include design and finish recommendations. We quickly learned that despite Nuance being able to take our ideabooks from Houzz and replicate them via a rendering software they were not able to provide design advice. We ended up hiring another company to come and help us through those decisions. In summary, the quality of the work was satisfactory and that is only because my husband and I had to ask them to redo work over and over again. We had to literally find directions for installations in spanish so that their staff could properly install, had to draw and print out reminders of designs that weren't ultimately followed and had to be redone, multiple items were delivered to the house that were accepted by Nuance and not checked for accuracy and resulted in many returns and time delays, our fireplace was installed without the 4 inch reversible flue assembly which allowed fireplace gases to enter our home and only after my husband got the manufacturer, Nuance and the ordering company involved did Nuance realize they had not installed that piece which was downstairs and had to redo our fireplace facade and reinstall new fireplace (which you can imagine we checked and double checked to ensure was done correctly). We constantly had to point out flaws in the cofferred ceiling work, painting, cabinetry installation and bathroom fixture installs. Had work been done properly the first time, I believe Nuance would've completed the work on time. We also had to compromise on the design a couple of times because they had not communicated issues in a timely fashion and thus we ended up settling to minimize the delay in schedule. My husband and I had to be the project managers!!! We requested many times a meeting/walk through with the owner who refused and pushed us to the project manager who we obviously did not trust. Escalation did not work in this case, so we decided to just write the final check and be done with the pain and stress. My father in law had to come down from out of state to finalize and redo work. The built ins around our fireplace hinges had to be redone, cabinet door hinges redone, a wood trim piece in the stair had fallen and needed redoing, the range hood exhaust vent needed to be properly weatherproofed to keep water from entering the home, along with many other small things. There were many imperfections we were willing to live with because we were not demanding perfection for the price we paid but simply getting acceptable quality work was like pulling teeth!
> In summary our biggest disappointment is the program management, communication (between Nuance and their subcontractors as well as to us) and ultimately quality of work. We had Nuance come back yesterday to fix cracks that had already appeared in the grout work in our master bathroom. The work was done with a different texture grout that does not match the original installation, unevenly and obviously of low standard. Thus, we've decided to finally just write a review being reminded of the stress, issues and disappointment we'd had over the months.

## Community Q&A

**Q: Screen for patio doors?** *(in Photo Questions)*

Do doors have screens?

A: Hi. Yes. The bifold door system we used has custom screens and blinds that retract from the interior. Really awesome setup!
